still sends chills down my spine and great memories. I think Richard is the best singer ever and totally underrated. He is a stud and so is his brother the bassist.

Saw them last night in San Diego first time since 85 , think they’re better now. They’ve perfected their sound

@SD VOL respectfully disagree that they're "better now". If I understand your premise that they're more 'practiced' - or do what quality musicians who've been around more than a decade often do - attempt to shift their works so it reflects differently than original work, then I agree.
The unfortunate fact is that the sound of the post-punk, new wave bands that defined my musical anchors - such as the Furs, Ultravox, Echo & Bunnymen, Erasue, Duran Duran, Pet Shop Boys, New Order, The Cure, Flock of Seagulls, Siouxsee & The Banshees, INXS, PIL, Depeche Mode, Simeon Minds & more - declined as they hit their 60's; like within the last decade.
I wonder if the "better" impression you experienced is anchored more in the idea that our generation (guessing you're in 50's) feels powerfully moved by the fact we can still go see these bands we grew up with and as an extension, makes us feel like we did when we originally, or early on, saw them...?
Richard Butler's definitely cared for his voice. Their tour schedule over the past decade supports that. But it doesn't have the same raw grace, power, and gravitas that it had the first 5-7 years of the band; even the first 15... and the total sound and spirit of their, ALMOST Johnny Lydon-esque "F.U." spirit is much more refined now...
For me, they'll never sound as fresh & vibrant - as "good" - as they did in their early years. I've witnessed this same phenomenon w/ other bands I love - Ji. Kerr & Simple Minds, Dave Gahan & DM, Andy Bell w/ Erasure... so many.
That all said, I'll still see them when I can. If for no other reason than how their music makes me feel. Glad you had a good time - they're peerless in many ways.
Pretty obvious this got WAY away from me - apologies!

@@robbieprokop1745 Robbie - thanks for reply and i get what you’re saying. I first heard the debut album on my turntable. My point reflects better technology has actually been friendly to Punk, post punk new wave bands . Addition of @zackalford and Amanda Kramer in the current lineup contributed to that perfected sound i mentioned - they’re both highly accomplished and was pleasantly surprised to see them , especially zack hitting some of those trademark. Furs drum riffs and rolls . Seen a few recently Bryan Ferry (back to back night , San Diego &Hollywood Bowl ) PSB in Vegas (phenomenal) BillyIdol (technology and Steve Stevens helps but Billy has had to modify voice - the screaming did him in) Your list is spot on -all the stuff i listened to in the 80’s was a great respite from rocknroll which kind of stagnated for awhile.

@@robbieprokop1745 "Tell me what can a poor boy do, 'cept to sing for a rock and roll Band?" This band is one of the best things to ever happen to rock music. To me, they still capture much of the feeling they brought to the stage all those years ago and seeing as they never got the public recognition and reward they deserved in the 70/80's while overly inflated "acts" like U2 got the accolades, it's a kind of well deserved justice to see them doing so well today on the concert circuit. Of course there's a cautionary tale here, too. Overstay your welcome and relevance by years or on many cases, decades in this game, like the authors of the lyric that began this piece, and there's no question you and your group and maybe even part of your legacy will run to ground, mired in embarrassment that sticks like fly paper.
