Thank you for the great video! I am inspired by your pants/shorts pattern and the use of the toweling. I had a floor-length lounge dress with a front zipper in the early 70s which I loved. I have been looking for an elastic waist pants pattern for a while and this one looks perfect, love that it has different leg options. I appreciate the time you take to provide such informative videos.
So glad you love the Classic Pants and Short pattern Alex. Love your towelling inspiration too! May you relax in style this summer. Kindest regards, Janine
I was a teenager in the 70’s and ‘Terry Towelling’ was quite popular. My sisters and I spent our summers at the swimming pool. I made an A-line shift dress with zipper at the front to wear over my bathers. I loved it! I have not seen much of this fabric since. Love your outfit.
Love everything you have made, I like the t-shirt dress cos it isn’t clingy, and the fuchsia blouse looks like a great summer jacket to me. The towelling stuff looks really comfy and cosy but stylish as well - we would expect nothing less from a lady of your style calibre! X
I made swimsuits and leotards in the early 90 s. They were very easy and flattering. Use some extra fabric to make a skirt so it makes a dress or coverup.
Wow! Everything turned out beautifully. I have some non stretch velvet. You’ve given me some good ideas! Thanks, I had no clue what I was going to do with it 👗🧵🪡🥰
In the early 80's (when I was a young child) i had a towling playsuit! It was strapless with elastic around the top to keep it from falling down, and an elastic waistband. What a lovely and velvety casual set!
Love the towelling wardrobe! When I was younger I had a sort of caftan with a front zip. It had a sort of long yoke back and front and slits to the knee. I’ve been trying to recreate that for years it felt wonderful. That towelling would do it and the. I need the pattern.
Actually Alex, I love your t-shirt dress at the back and it looks great on you 👌. Well done with the lounge wear too and I'm sure they are all going to be worn a lot 🙏👍😁🥰😘
So impressed by everything you make! Try soaking the poplin blouse in 2 liters of original Coca-cola for a few hours to soften it. It wont stain and works on linen and denim. With the gathers softened, you could press the button placket if needed but wear it rumpled like washed linen, especially over a sleeveless tee.
Love the shorts, pants, and shirt. I never would have thought outside the box like that but it all turned out so nice. I would have wanted a hoodie out of it too. Good luck with the swimwear, I’ve never attempted it either.
Nellie Jones in New Zealand has lots of swim elastics. My favourite dress of the summer was a surprise to me and was Helen’s Closet Reynolds dress. I love that it is bra friendly but cool to wear.
No swimwear tips, but I have used fluffy fabric many times and have found that if you cut your pieces first and throw them in the dryer for about 5-10 mins with a damp towel, it pulls off most of the fluff so you can sew them with minimal shedding.
I think the pink shirt, if tucked in, will look great. Feel tempted to get The Sewing Revival trouser pattern. I really like this pattern company, have bought a few of their designs and in each case, used multiply times. Not something I normally do.
Really like the dress, though I didn’t really notice the back. You’re right you’d have to use loser elastic though would that change what looks like a perfect fit at the moment. Fuscia is an amazing colour it just seems to suit everyone (and magenta) Atelier june has a great jungle pattern viscose and Lamazi fabrics has a lovely double gauze and a linen
Oh wow! That toweling outfit is so fabulous!!! Love both the shorts and pants. Very nice!! I happen to think the dress looks great on you and doesn’t appear baggy to me, but I’m also not the one wearing it 😉. Thanks for sharing ❤. Christy
The trowelling outfit looks just the ticket. I love the pink shirt so much it looks stylish and really lovely on you. I don't mind it as a shacket too. Great vlog. P.S good luck with the swimwear. ❤
Alex, love the outfit you made from the toweling or as we in the US usually refer to it as terry cloth. A couple of years ago I made a lounge outfit from terry cloth that is long pants and a v neck style sweatshirt, it’s so cozy.
Fab makes as always. You do inspire me! (Recently made 2 stitch birds and 2 sewing revival flounce dresses for my hols and love them all.) I have the classic pants pattern ready to go when I drop a stone (or 2!). I love your Alena dress and prefer it tighter at the back as you have done. Also loved the fascia shirt but agree it is more wintry and a bit more formal so could be more dressed up than down if you know what I mean. Good Luck with the swimwear- I have no doubt you will do an amazing job.
Thanks so much. I just tried on my Stitchbird dresses, made when I was a little bigger, but they still work really well so I'm pleased that they'll be worn this Summer again. I really like TSR patterns.
Love your combo out of the toweling fabric! I remember, that I had a short, yellow (different shades of yellow and a little white) romper when I was a child/teenager out of such fabric. If you are looking for more swimwear elastics, bwear has some in different width and colors. They also have swimmer fabrics.
I think the fuschia top has too many gathers. I made a blouse like that but slim fits without gathers. It was a pattern put out by one of the big four pattern companies in the late 80's or early 90's. It suited the structured extended shoulders. Your terry towelling pants and shirt look great.
I make a lot of swimsuits….I’d say the make sure to use the cotton covered swim elastic. It’s great! I have a cover stitch and serger….but for whatever reason the zigzag stitches hold up the best for applying elastic. I love all your shorts and pants! Happy vacation!
I love the toweling outfit. The fit on the shorts and slacks is perfect. I will be checking out that pattern. I agree with you about the short sleeve width, I also prefer a slimmer look. I had a flashback of visiting my older teenager cousins when I was 10 or 11. They were cutting out toweling for probably beach coverups and there was fluff everywhere. It was flying through the air as they were down on the floor cutting the fabric. I think I've sewn with every kind of fabric but toweling, but you have inspired me to give it a go. I do have a suggestion when making a swimsuit, make a mockup of the bottoms to make sure you get the bum coverage you want. Good luck with the swimsuit. Now I must check out some of the patterns you used.
Do let me know if you give it a try, I really enjoyed it. I tried my first bikini bottoms yesterday and ended up using my favourite undies as a guide 😂
Hi Alex. I love the terry cloth (towelling) set! Perfect work from home wear as I really enjoy elevated leisure wear. I think I will check out those trousers as I’m looking for a flat front pair for wovens. I am trying the Style Arc Fifi (for mom) but the pant leg is wide. Did we all have Terry cloth play suits in the 70s? 😂 Also the fuschia blouse is stunning on you. I see it as a perfect dinner date topper over a camisole. Cheers A
I absolutely love the fibre mood dress on you, I think the back looks v elegant. But I'm totally inspired by the towelling, never thought about making standard clothes from it! Im hoping to order some to make a stitchbird dress from, but I'll pop it on after getting out of the hot tub! One of my favourite dresses with additional purpose, perfect!
The towelling set is absolutely gorgeous - I am inspired. I’ve given up on FibreMood but I know loads of people sew their patterns very successfully - too much bother for me. As for dresses, I’ve made the SOI Nicole and Named Reeta recently and both are really lovely in this warm weather. Thanks for the great video.
Love your towelling set Alex. (Although I might also like to make a romper with one of those zips ) I think i just used normal elastic for my north shore cossie and its done a few years without issue.
Fabulous towelling outfit, I do a lot of sea swimming and have made the Robbie Pants by Tessuti in towelling along with the Stella Hoodie which I adapted to have a zip front and can strip off the wetsuit pop them on and hop in the car which is great. They are however very utilitarian, yours really looks quite glamourous. Was wondering could you redo the elastic on the back of the stretch dress as it did elevate it when you pulled it down a bit but it still looks good on you. Fibremood does my head in which I have to remember everytime cos the styling is great but I tend to just use it for inspiration having been burnt in the past.
Those outfits that you make with the towelling are fantastic, I would never have thought of using this fabric for them. I made a dressing gown in the navy for my husband and in a gorgeous baby blue for my daughter in law (very predictable!) in this fabric a couple of years agao. Aren't they beautiful to stroke, my husband's is hung up in the bathroom and I stroke it regularly! I know what you mean about the bits! I am usually a dress person but can't think of anything that has inspired me recently, sorry. I think that I am going to make the Kalle shirt dress as a casual summer dress. Have you seen Lucie's, gorgeous.
I've given it a go over the years with mixed results, I'm not the most patient person and the fiddling about to get the pattern working properly drives me bonkers, so i usually give up 😂
Hi Alex, I hope you can help me. I don't know where else to turn. I purchased the Stan shirt through your link . I am having difficulty chosing the correct pattern to print at home. I figure you had yours printed and didn't print at home so not sure you can answer my question. I tried looking at the website for help but to no avail. The pattern PDF's are labeled P1, P2, P3, P4. I want to make the short sleeve version and not sure which one to print. Would you have any suggestions? Or even how to contact the pattern Co? Thank you Alex. You're a big inspiration to me, I watch all your videos and I'm so much of a sewer like you. I hate to "faf" around as you call. I usually take the easiest route.
Ok, have had a look. There's a document call pdf utilisation that you need, it lists which pattern pieces are in which files - let me know if you don't have it.
@@AlexJudgeSews OK!! Wow! I do have that page and overlooked it thinking it was something I didn't need. This is my first pattern from P&M. Thanks Alex for taking the time to help me. I hope you have a wonderful day. ☺
Please delete this comment Alex, if you feel it is none of my business and also not appropriate to a sewing vlog. I would be really interested in your gym work and lifting weights and how you have achieved the changes to your body shape. Plus, is that a Zoe patch on your arm? Have a couple of Tim Spector’s books and have wondered about joining up.
It is a Zoe patch, I forgot I was wearing it until I came to edit the video! I listened to a podcast with Tim Spector a while ago and started following some of his advice as it made a lot of sense to me and then treated myself to Zoe membership (not cheap). I'm a few weeks in and really enjoying it, it gets really good when you get your individual results and can see which foods work specifically for you. I also like it because nothing is forbidden, because that's the fastest way to make me want something 😂. I only started looking at my diet because I forced myself to join a group training gym and as someone who's never liked exercise I didn't want to feel that I was undoing all my hard work. My motivation has been to have an active old age, the change in shape is a byproduct really, I wasn't looking after myself and was worrying about what might be in store in the future. I'm very lucky to have a great gym, I like that it's women only and I even almost enjoy lifting weights now, it's also only 1 min walk away so I can't avoid it. The biggest and most unexpected change for me is that exercising makes me feel much happier and less grumpy 😂
@@AlexJudgeSews Thanks for such a detailed reply Alex and well done! You have made some good choices that will be very beneficial to you in future years.
Love love love the toweling idea!!
I would wear the fuschia blouse as a jacket over a fitted t shirt. It’s very cute!
The toweling outfit is AWESOME!! Definitely an inspiration!!
You can wear the pink shirt as a spring jacket over a tank top. That would be cute.
Nice video, love your style, thanks for sharing

The fuscia actually hangs like a jacket. Maybe a tank underneath and worn open... (?)
