On this video, I've compared the new Viofo A229 Pro 4k dash camera with the older Viofo A129 Pro Dash camera. Both are 4k Camera.
NOTE : The rattle sound is because of something is loose inside the interior. Overall, it's a great Dash Camera. No CPL filter or HDR setting was used during filming. I wanted to get the raw sensor reading out of the camera. Also, on a side notes, it was cloudy all week, so I don't have any footage during a sunny day.

To me it seems like the text readability of the front camera on the A129 while there is motion is VASTLY superior to the A229, which is what I'd think is most important since you want to get the license plates, yeah? A good example of this is 10:36 (A129) vs 11:16 (A229). Also I feel like in those two examples the audio quality of the older A129 is much better as well.
I totally understand, that could be the youtube video processing codecs or smudge or blurry windshield glass. Or could be fixed with a newer firmware which adjust the camera shutter angle in the software. But if you freeze the frame at 3:33, you will see the A229 is sharper and has wider Dynamic range.

Maybe this is a dumb question, does it record forward and reverse at the same time or do you pick one or the other?
Good Question. Yes, it is recorded at the same time with two different files. Front & Rear. But, if purchase the 3 channel setup it will also record another file for the 3rd camera.
