Thanks for the great info. After 20 years of being a Nuclear medicine technologist I’m going for a new career. The good news is I have a lot of clinical experience starting IVs is my thing.
My daughter was wanting to become an Anesthesiologist and is currently at student at UF . You are correct very little info on how to get into the profession: she has call Nova and has looked up what are the courses required. She is seeking a degree in Biology. That seems to have all the prerequisite courses . She is now in search of a mentor . I appreciate your videos as you were the first one that when she watched it decided to change her plan . She thinks that being the person that does the hands on instead of supervising is what she would enjoy. If there are any other words of advise or someone she could talk to about the job we would appreciate it

I’ve been a CPhT for over 15 years. I had completed my prerequisites for Pharmacy School when life happened. I want to change careers and do something more full filing
I love this! I am currently doing my Bachelor's in Biology to get into a CAA school. Do you have any tips towards getting into CAA school, and how difficult the process was?
I used to be an Anesthesia Tech and it was my most stressful but best job ever. Doctors can be assholes sometimes. OB & Vascular was awesome ❤️ best of luck to you!
@@mjnona If I'm not mistaken, you don't need any degree to become an anesthesia technician. They will accept anyone (similar to a medical assistant) and they will train you. It's not so much a career path but more a stepping stone for someone interested in a future in anesthesia or medical field in general. Not to say you can't have a career as a medical assistant but that's what I'm comparing it to!
@@mjnona Anesthesia techs are associates-degree trained. Similar positions include scrub techs (or "surgical technologists"), sonography techs, respiratory therapists. Paramedics and LPNs could also be a good comparison, as could medical assistants. But Anesthesia techs perform Anesthesia related tasks, under the explicit direction of an anaesthesia provider. Anaesthesia assistants are midlevel anesthesia providers- they are indirectly supervised by an anesthesiologist (i.e. a physician). They can manage cases and perform their duties on their own, but can't be totally independent. An analogy from the general medical world would be the anesthesia techs are like medical assistants, and CAAs like PAs, CRNAs like NPs, and anesthesiologists like medical attendings. The lowest level role completes tasks. No critical thinking or autonomy involved. The PA/CAA has a good deal of autonomy, but still requires supervision. The NP/CRNA role is similar, with the caveat that some states/systems allow for fully independent practice.
Question...what are your thoughts ( and your colleagues') on the job outlook/ saturation of AA say in the next 5 years? It seems like it's starting to pick up and becoming more competitive, too....
Hey can anesthesiologist assistants travel just like traveling nurses and surgical techs and sterilize processors and over Travelers in the Allied Healthcare field
Would you recommend this for someone who's not big on patient interaction? I can do it fine but it's not something I want to do all day, which is why Im thinking of switching from pre pa to pre aa.
That's exactly why I'm interested in anesthesia, I do love talking to patients but I feel like it's almost a better experience when it's short and sweet AND I'm not having 40 more that day
Is it common for AA-Cs do do regional/neuraxial or do the attendings prefer to do them. Would imagine since its in scope it could be delegated but just curious, realize this answer will vary from location to location.
Thank you for your support! I know I wanted to do anesthesia 💯 so instead of going to medical school and having to rotate through all the different specialties plus having to match an anesthesia residency... I figured AA was a guaranteed, more direct route to anesthesia.

@AnesthesiaSal, This field seems intriguing! I've been considered a calm person, so maybe this job would be for me. So far I'm interested in dental hygiene, so we'll see.
The scope of practice is quite a bit different between the two fields. CRNA has more direct healthcare education and experience thus has more independence. CAA is still an anesthesia provider but more of an assistant role. If you want to become an anesthesia provider quickly and make good money then go CAA. If you are more interested in not having to have direct supervision but okay with spending 8-9 years becoming an anesthesia provider then go crna.
