I love how informative this is! And that it caters to the more advanced keeper. Obviously as it should be, given the animal in discussion. But just in general it is hard to find good sources of further education for intermediate+ keepers in today's herp society, given how much we emphasize the new keeper's educational needs over that of the more seasoned ones. I'm excited to see what else you will cover in future videos!

I feel like I cane to the Right place here, I'm looking into getting my firs ETB and all this info is just so helpful, I'm hoping I can actually get at least a CB, even if not CBB but not directly wild caught, will check more vids about it
Green trees are definitely up on the hill for me. Right now I'm just raising up my ball pythons for breeding.
The next step up I'm eyeing would be carpets or white-lips.

For the most part I agree that GTPs don't like handling I have one maruke that might be the exception to this rule he actually seems to enjoy being handled occasionally

Hi Gary, I love your animals. Kind of off the wall question for ya, what type of wood are you using for the perches in your snakes enclosures? I love the natural look they give your enclosures. It's much nicer than PVC piping.
Hi David, unfortunately the gentleman who made the perches in my cages no longer makes them due to some health issues, however Specialty Enclosure Designs (www.specialtyenclosuredesigns.com), now makes them, and they are a great place to deal with. Thanks for watching! Gary

Nice job Gary, but one huge mistake!!! You said the Sanzinia will turn completely green. No way, it will retain the sorta white saddles. You should know that!!!! Just messing with you bud! Really, nice job and nice setup. Keep me in mind for some nice Northern hatchlings.

Two of the most important things to ask yourself before buying a reptile,
Whats your plan if you die or are hospitalized , who will care for them in your absence?
Whats your back up plan for the possibility of a long term loss of power and are you in possession of what you need before it happens?
I bought my baby green tree python at petco. They had 2 for 500 each. Petco policy wont allow live feeding. Neither of the 2 would eat frozen. One died after about 3 months. I offered the manager half price which he declined at first but agreed on my next visit. I offered live as soon as i got home and it ate immediately. I misted 2-3 times a day until all of the stuck shed came off. I now have a healthy GTP for the low cost of $250
Idk if all of that stress and heartbreak is worth a $250 discount. Also a farm bred or potentially wild caught gtp is roughly worth $300.
A green tree python is my dream snake. One of these day.

Lol I went and impulse got mine I have done a little research on mine but I found him on Craigslist for free with his pvc cage in bad condition and had to help him

Awesome video!
To guarantee your humidity level stays "SAFE" (above 50 %)
Keep a half inch of charcloal , soaking wet , with , light diffuser grill wrapped in screen (to keep substrait separate from the wet ) with your choice of substrate on top . The humidity is always avove 50 percent
The substrate is never wet
The enclosure never goes dry . My ball python has had full sheds ever since .
And I do the same for my 10 gallon that is filled to the top with ecoearth , and cork round tunnels for a boro box for my skinks
Both have irrigation pipes installed in each set up
but not important in a typical setup , as you can displace a little substrate , and , re-wet your coal or sand base
You can tell when it needs to be moistened , as , you will no longer see condensation on the glass
at the very bottom of enclosure , if it is a glass at the bottom ?

I just want to say that no snake in my opinion snakes don't attack they defend they are not aggressive snake's don't actively seek people out and bite them they are generally scared and defensive
Tom Crutchfield said it best true magic and understanding happens when the keeper and the kept lose their fear that's when the real magic happens

Winslow Murdoch here. When you have hatchling GTPs, would be great to do a first feeding (or, not feeding yet) video.
Also curious about maintaining ambient temps for babies and adults.
Any thoughts about UVB and color and pattern development?
FYI, I am having some success with low wattage LED lights as heat in ambient temperature maintained rooms.
I agree with a room air purifier that moves air.
Also, Prodex insulation, AKA Reflectix, is a game changer for snake room and cage specific insulation that is not very flammable, acts as vapor and air barrier and heat insulator.
BTW, I still have and use your neodesha 48 inch wide cages and three stack rack that you delivered to my house almost 20 years ago.

Hey Gary, you mentioned heating for baby chondros in snake racks and your ambient range for them. But what temperature do you set your thermostat to? I know every room is different, personally I cycle my room temps from 76-82F throughout the year to breed the various species I keep. But since you want them around 82F ambient I’m curious what you set the heat tape to in your situation. Great vids, thanks for the good info
I disagree on handling, but admittedly I don't know some of the species. I think it's how you handle. I also think there's a difference between not wanting to come off a perch and not wanting to be handled. It's two different things. If the snake is willing to go through the unnatural process with you, where there's a risk to both, it tends to be rewarding for both. My amazon basin demonstrates affection. He shows you he wants to come off - he cant do it himself. it's painful every time, but once hes off, he cuddles n rubs his chin on you and stuff. Never would have seen it if I didn't pull him off. He also has times he tells me he doesnt want to. These aren't that different from northerns. A captive bred northern is prob similar temperment. You can't handle them as much as a boa and its on their schedule and thats true.
