    How did he learn it so fast? I followed all the steps (except clicker) and mine inly follows when I show the treat in my hand… she really responds to treat father than the word free

    Haha my corgi had the same problem as a puppy.. couldn't lay down reliably for a long time cause of those stumpy legs😂

    I’m having trouble teaching ’free’ with our 3 month old puppy. It’s hard to convince the pup that she can come and get a treat without having her butt on the ground. Sit is a good behaviour, but I’m worried it could interfere with other behaviours we want to teach such as walking on leash and ‘leave it’. Poor girl’s getting confused and she’s not reliably getting up on free even when I lure her. Do you ever have a similar problem?

      You could try teaching “get it” at first meaning the dog can have the treat. Out of a training situation, get a treat out of the fridge open your hand with it in and say get it. After repeating a few days you can say “free” and then get it showing the treat in your hand. Some puppies take a long time to learn the release it took bliss my Bc a few weeks !

    This was fantastic because it showed me what to do when things dont go right, that it the most important part. most videos are just showing the theoretical perfect training which is often straight forward. Its a massive help for us regular dog owners who are trying and struggling when it doesnt work. Keep up the excellent work. you are always my "go to" when looking for help.

    Thank you! Can we use 'get it' for toys also? If we prove stay with toys, can we use the same cue (get it) for toys and treats or this should be avoided?

    OMG! His little jump at 4:44 when you said Free is adorable!! / I have been using the release word, "Okay" for several years. I didn't know any better back when he was a puppy. He is now four years old. Emily, do you think it is too late to try to switch to "Free?" I understand the word okay gets used too often and can be confusing.

    Awww what a cute video! That WAS adorable when Epic did that little jump move! Even though my dog is fully trained I enjoy watching your videos, I almost always learn something new or a different variation. And I just like watching how you interact, my neighbor just got a puppy and I’m going to show them your channel tomorrow when I bring them a bag of lamb liver treats. I think most dogs would find that “high value”!. Lol I found that a good breakdown of how some treats might be too stimulating, some too boring, for the desired result. It was interesting to see in action.
    I like your presentations the best of so many I’ve seen. You’re the only dog training channel I watch these days. Keep up the great work Emily and pack. ❤️🐕

    This is interesting, Emily! I say Stay then set up the distractions: wave at others, ring doorbell! Are you thinking the pup should consider Stay as part of the Sit or Down? Your thoughts, please, Emily? I use All Done as my pup's release and she will Stay as I walk over and greet another dog and people (all off leash) to see if they would like their dog to say Hi? She will not move until I release her. But I do tell her Stay before I walk away. God bless you and your wonderful gifts! Thanks for sharing, Emily!

    Nice video, I remember teaching stay and what I had to do was get really clear with my body language (hand up, slow movement away) to get the behavior first and then slowly fade the body language out to get it on a verbal cue only.

    I've seen your older videos and noticed you don't ever use a "stay" cue?
    The problem I am having is that my 13 week old Aussie puppy has a default sit, she sits all the time for everything as soon as I make eye contact with her, and even when I am not paying attention to her like when she is in her pen watching me cook, etc. So she seems to be having a hard time understanding that *only* "free" means break a sit, because she sits so much (not sure if this makes sense). Might work on down stays instead for now. Anyway love these real time videos they are so helpful, glad to see this one since we are working on proofing releases and stays now.

    • @TrishHarrison
      @TrishHarrison 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      So you don't want her to leave a sit that she has volunteered unless you tell her to?

    • @HillariDenny
      @HillariDenny 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TrishHarrison Well since she offers sit so much she also breaks sit a lot because she regularly does it when I'm not directly engaged with her. So it's harder for her to understand not to break a sit unless I say free because she does it all the time. We're working on down stays for now and hopefully that will make transferring the concept to sit stays easier!

    Okay so Pup c is here listening to you, and looking at the computer like should I listen or not? Then she is looking at me like are we going to do something? Too funny. Keep sharing these videos are great, I have had many dogs and I always learnd something new in technique or cleaning up some lazy habits we get over here. Thanks. Blessing and a pup hug to the little guy, Cloud is just adorable, but they all are. Okay my 5 year old pup got her toys we are following along, lol. So what if its 9pm, lol 0;)
