There are a few things that would make Pinn OS way better. There should be an option to upload custom IMG OS files. It would also be cool to have some of the OS to come pre loaded with the Google play store. My fingers are crossed.
That's another great video. Thank you! ☺ One issue I would like you to cover in a future video is Audio Out on a Raspberry 5 (not to the monitor but to a speaker system). It can be done via a USB dongle or via the second HDMI port or via GPIO, I guess. You would be the perfect TH-camr to cover this! 👍
I got PINN working quickly from this, so thank you for posting it. I was hoping PINN was like Berryboot, but it seems far more limiting. I'm running from a 1TB NVME drive and want to be able to multiboot arbitrary OSes, rather than only the ones offered in the PINN installation (which don't all work, Ubuntu panics during initial boot). Sadly, the once fantastic Berryboot has been abandoned for years. I'm still hoping someone picks it up and updates it for the Pi 5.
Seen they have Android 14 running on the RPi5, I'd love to see this with Play Store & Google Assistant both working. With the Option to keep Google Assistant always on in the background so if you say *_Hey Google_* it responds w/o the need to press a button And be able to play TH-cam videos with Chrome with ad-blocker installed.
If you try Android make sure you use the konstakang version not the one in rpi imager. The one in imager will crash to reboot when you try to connect to wifi. And probably other things but I never got that far.
I have Android 14 running on my Pi5 with no issues. I had to install gapps and register the device with google. Now it's like a fully functioning tablet: Have Kodi, TH-cam, VLC etc running with no issues. Only thing missing is the H264 encode/decode that I read they dropped hardware support for on the RPi5 stating "CPU should be powerful enough for SW Decode". While this might be the case, one application I have still tries to use the non existing h264 so the output for video is just black with the audio in the background. @leepspvideo , Would there be a way to force H264 SW decode on the RPi5?
So there's you with your nice bit of (mostly) open Raspberry Pi 5 hardware with the capability of running a nice open source Linux OS that loves you and your privacy - or you could run an AOSP-based version of Android that is also open source (until Google get their grubby paws on it) but instead you rush straight in with running your Google apps and hand the whole thing over to Google so they can turn it into a surveillance device that watches everything you do. Yet another "head in my hands" moment - why don't so many of you care about your own data privacy?
@@terrydaktyllus1320 I understand your view however if you carry around a phone you already gave up your privacy. 🤷🏻♂️ I'm using Android to test gaming on this device for fun and curiosity. Lol.
I just did the eeprom update 2x with the sudo rpi-eeprom-update to check it then sudo rpi-eeprom-update -a to actually do it. It went to the Dec 6 then Dec 14 update
Is there any way to install custom .img files in PinnOS? Id like to add a custom RetroPie image if possible. If not, are there any other options for multi boot where i can add custom .img files?
Just an FYI, it seems that updating the Raspberry Pi OS as of today includes the Dec. 14th firmware, so no need to download and copy the file. Followed the instructions and PINN works fine.
There are Google Assistant devices that have built in monitors, where the Google Assistant uses the screen to display weather, smart bulbs/switches/etc. Is there anyway to do this with a Pi?
could you explain more what pinn os is? do I understand correctly, that you could have Debian, Ubuntu and whatever else you might fancy running? what are the drawbacks? are there any? does it affect bootup time or is it just an option you could press shift on startup? is there any reason not to use it? sounds interesting - if I understand it correctly

Hi leep a thought has just occured to me. I downloaded the img file directly from sourceforge with the link on git hub, and I also downloaded the zip lit file directly from git hub! Very impressive. It is amazing how so few SBC's don't have such a feature by default, especially those with SPI flash onboard.

The method at 1:20 now gives the updated bootloader. No need to do the extra steps. Unless a newer version is in beta that you want to try.
