Basically it gives you two tadpoles. Either you pick it up (at which point you get the two tadpoles), or you destroy it (at which point, two tadpoles spill out onto the ground. If you already picked up the container once before, you don't get an extra two tadpoles if you then subsequently destroy the container.) Once you have the two tadpoles, the container essentially just functions as another explosive barrel that also sprays caustic acid in a large radius after detonation.
This reminds of that one moment from animorphs where the characters kill thousands of the parasite aliens and are left with the thought that they just ended a bunch of sentient creatures for the sake of victory.
It was towards the very end. It was actually way more messed up than that. They forced an extreme pacifist to kill 57000 of them as an important but minor distraction. They also used crippled orphan children as a distraction as well.

Had Karlach pick em up and keep it in her inventory. Balthazar was the lucky giftee of an enraged throw of tadpoles from above, which then exploded. Lovely way to finish him off.

If you want to go all in on the Illtihid powers, just use one in Act 1 to get the questline started, then keep all the other ones you find in your camp chest... but don't use them up until you get the Astral Tadpole from the [SPOILER] in the Astral Prism. Attune to the Astral Tadpole (don't eat it!!!), that will instantly unlock all tadpole powers slots of the 1st and 2nd tiers. (Not sure if you get any normal tadpoles you've already used to unlock slots prior to the Astral Tadpole back.) Then you're free to unlock the remaining slots with the tadpoles you stashed for later.

I just kinda went murder hobo in the tower so when I went straight into combat on the docs I knew what to do when I saw some splody barrels. Didn’t even realize those were there 😂

Probably would have seen the power of the cult grown somewhat, putting further obstacles & possibly encountering a few assassination attempts in the city if the tank was left as it was back in Moonrise, or at least it showing up on a boat somewhere giving you a final chance to nip it in the bud, when the whole idea of the tank came up during the planning stages. shame that it turned out to be nothing more than a curiosity for adding like 2 more worms in your inventory. so much could have been done in Larian is just willing to make DLCs with the massive stores of cut content they've accumulated.
I like how Wyll CHOOSES to be lawful good. Even though sometimes his instincts pull him to be more neutral, he actively decides that he doesn’t want to be like that. Lawful good characters can be quite boring (when poorly written) but I love the idea of characters that have to WORK to be lawful good

Taught has a homophones in tout which means basically to make someone believe x thing is actually y thing.
