Im kind of focused on retooling and perfecting my sleep and shelter system.... so in that vein, id have to say my forester quilt from pathfinder atm. It gets used mostly in the house right now because im acclimatized to the summer heat and sleeping in my home is to cold for my poncho liner when the kids and/or dogs steal all the covers. It gets me down to about 35f pretty comfortably on its own, no wind barrier or extra thermals testing it last winter.
Cordage. Cordage is one of the hardest resources to make in the wilderness, so it's almost impossible to carry too much cordage; either #36 bank line, or 550 paracord.
What gets used in my first aid kit are gauze pads + sports tape to make my own large band-aids, that sports tape sticks to wet, sweaty or bloody skin and covers hot spots before they turn into blisters on my feet.
I did tiktok video earlier today explaining that now it's raining I have no tread on my rear motorbike tyre and should have changed it but didn't as was dry weather, I was in location where no signal and no one around so iff I slipped off and broke ankle I'd be doomed. So maintain vehicle and equipment 👍🌱🌲✝️✝️✝️ respect from 🇬🇧
When I’m out for hike , scout or just exploring I like to travel lite. In my pockets carry , bic lighter wrapped with duct tape, some type of pocket knife, small hank of cordage, ferro rod. I use a small military rucksack or waist pack and I have the 5’c. Most of the time I’m wearing military cargo pants. The weather dictates the clothing I wear. Other than my knife my most favorite piece of gear is a Serra cup I’ve had for over 40yrs , it’s been all over the place with me
In my pocket I will always have one of the Cold Steel large folders. Today its the Cold Steel Voyager Clip Point XL, with 5.5 inch blade. Easy to open and close with one hand if you have too. Plus it is big enough if you have to defend yourself from say a person, or dogs. I have other Cold Steel large folders, so it all depends on the pants I'm wearing and how deep the pockets are. Oh, and I always have matches.
The dry gear is essential, in the army in Germany we’d go out for several weeks at a time, getting in dry gear at the end of the day was heaven, getting up pre dawn and getting into you damp set was hell, even if you’d managed to partially dry it in the bottom of your sleeping bag overnight. And it can get real cold too, occasionally the zipper on your sleeping bag froze shut…
I'm 62, and even if I'm just going out for a afternoon hike, I will carry food. And not chocolate. That's good for instant energy, but it does wear off quickly. Fruit is good, Ritz Bits Sandwich crackers, the peanut butter ones. You have some carbs, some protein, and some salt. If I'm out for all day. Then I take a real lunch, with at least two different types of sandwiches. And lots of snacks. Food is fuel.
Great video, my favorite EDC is the Smith and Wesson border guard knife, my usgi poncho, Sawyer water filter kit, bite and sting kit from Sawyer also, with ferrocium rod and the 4patriots Halo XT flashlight. All carried in a Field line tactical 20L backpack with a 3 liter reservoir
Sanding sponges are great for lots of things. As for oiling a blade, that's not really a big problem for me. I live in a very dry area, but when I do, I use Pam Non Stick Spray, the Original. Works great.
Favourite piece of gear? The item which usually brings a smile to my face and has been a comfort when the going has been less than great is my brew kit. Just a cheap round pouch with a canteen cup, stand, alcohol burner ect all in the one pouch. Directionally challenged (we're never lost!!!) out comes the brew kit. It hacks it down with rain, poncho shelter, brew kit. The list goes on. Everyone needs to get a brew kit, if not, why not!!!!
I try to stay pretty strict about my Long Range Bug Out Bag, I use the gear but I always try to put it back no matter how I feel. I need to get better at going through all my gear and checking every little item every few months to replace whatever needs replaced. I had needed to get in my repair kit to use some Gorilla Super Glue and eventhough it had never been opened, it had turned solid. Not a huge deal, I have other options in my repair kit like E6000 or Shoe Goo, but nevertheless, I need to stay on top of that stuff a little better. Other than that my OCD keeps me pretty organized lol. A couple of minor boo boo items in my trauma kit need replaced. OTC meds and Bandaids, Chapstick. All my actual trama kit items are not used unless absolutely necessary and typically I have a few spares of those items.
@@BlackoutPatriot plenty of reasons but basically if my bug in location is no longer viable. Bugging out is a hail Mary last ditch effort, but to not have that option is pretty stupid from a preparedness standpoint. It's a temporary solution to give some time for better options.

Ive always disagreed about firearms. I always carry one, and part of it is what i call "The rule of Adventure" but the other part is i like being more capable than i am without it. I already EDC a gun, knife, cordage, multitool and lighter so really the only thing i want for is shelter, but like you mentioned, thats something you can get if you know how. If i know, for sure im going into the wild for a fun little adventure itd be what i already have on me plus my emergency pouch, which is a miniature version of my camp bag (+2 redundancy for all tools, shelter, medical, tinder and repair tools)
Great video brother. I've always carried a lighter and don't smoke. I carry 2 lighters now. I've been carrying the exotac refillable lighter for about 2 years just tryingit out. And I haven't had to refill it yet. I dont use it very much. I just wanted to see if it would seal and the fluid wouldn't evaporate. And it hasn't so far. It's awesome. My other lighter is just a standard Bic.
Hey Jason. Can you do an over nighter video with just this bare minimum kit. Do you just tuck in close to a fire right on the ground or do you bring some kinda sleep pad or trash bag full of leafs? Long time follower here. Where is Alan?! Have not seen or heard anything about him in quite sometime.
The worst call I got in my life so far is the day my daughter left the house to go to her friends house. I thought her friends parents picked her up. Instead her friend took her parents side by side with some other kids. Almost as soon as she left she called. "Dad, we crashed and everyone is bleeding. " I ran to the garage and grabbed 2 full med kits. When I got there my daughter was pushing the rolled side by side off her and crawled out. Her friend launched out of the side by side and slid 10 feet on both her knees. There was a small boy bleeding from the head being held by someone passing by. Everyone was in shock and had no idea what to do. Thankfully with 2 bags I had enough to stop everyone's bleeding. No serious injuries. (Except the girl with no knee caps) I will never again just travel with just a boo boo kit in my truck.
My survival things are all on one place … I find my winter bug out bag and tent and woodstove and axe and machete in the dark with one grip … everytime… whatever comes … 🍀✌️😜✌️🔥🔥🔥🌎🔥🔥🔥🍀🍀🍀
