    Los Angeles was used by the NFL as a bargaining chip against cities to blackmail them to build new stadiums. Arizona, Seattle, Minnesota, Oakland, Buffalo, Jacksonville, St. Louis, and San Diego, all of these teams were threatening to move to Los Angeles at one point just to get public funding for their stadiums. In fact Seattle had moving trucks on the road at one point. As of now all those teams except for Buffalo (Which is in the process of getting one), has either gotten a new stadium, moved to L.A., or in the case of Jacksonville, has made a huge amount of improvements to their stadium.

    NFL is all about making money. Kronke moved the Rams back to LA where he could make a ton even though he and investors paid to build the stadium as part of a big entertainment district. St. Louis didnt have a chance. I dont think they should have moved from LA in the first place but we had a good time in STL while we had them. We should not have been so cheap earlier and the Cardinals would still be here.

      Large stadiums like this just don't naturally fit into such large cities. these stadiums are empty the majority of the time and when there is an event all the traffic would be spilled onto city streets where people are trying to go about their day.
      I always thought they should of built a stadium in the same parking lot as Citi Field. on the edge of town so you can still take transit and fams from the suburbs don't have to use the city streets.

      I AM a lifelong Jets fan of about 53 or so years, and I like the West Side Stadium idea better than I like MetLife Stadium. MetLife to me, is just big and doesn't appear to be anything particularly special about it. Question I have is why are teams anting to build downtown, where you are going to be displacing not only citizens but businesses as well. Not only that, parking is a real hassle (for the people/fans) AND a real hustle (for that particular team). I'm watching how everything is unfolding in Oakland for my Athletics. Howard Terminal seems like a no-brainer for everyone, and the City of Oakland is really dragging their feet. Might be calling them the Last Vegas Athletics pretty soon.😔

    Los Angeles resident here, no the city didn't "Believe the lack of a stadium kept them from getting a team", they knew. This is why the Rams and Raiders left in the first place. The only stadiums around at the time were 80 years old (Now 100 years old - Rose Bowl & The Coliseum). The Rose Bowl is known for not wanting too many events as the neighborhood controls what happens there. They even turned down the Chargers when the Chargers moved to Los Angeles and were looking for a place to play.
    The truth is none of the proposals were taken seriously until the Farmers Field one, and then when Kreonke bought the land that was Hollywood Park. Every other "proposal" was dismissed as a rumor because they never had any real traction.

    Slight correction: Nobody was looking at Hartford as a landing for the Patriots until after Kraft owned the team. Orthwein took over Pats ownership as a favor to the League, as the previous owners had left the team in financial shambles. It was true that Orthwein would have liked to move the Pats to St. Louis, but Kraft owned the unbreakable lease on the Stadium and the surrounding land, and used that as leverage to get Orthwein to sell the team to him. There was a wink-wink deal - with League assurances behind the scenes - that soon the NFL would have a team in St. Louis one way or another (either expansion or relocation). So Orthwein sold the Patriots to Kraft to get out of it clean. Kraft's later dalliance with Hartford was leverage to get a better deal in Massachusetts. Yes, Kraft would have gone to Hartford if the state of Connecticut could keep to its promises and deadlines, but Kraft didn't really think they could, and he didn't really want to go there if it could be helped. He thought backing out of Hartford was a reasonable possibility that he might have to resort to, as politicians' promises on theses things don't always turn out right. Massachusetts was giving Kraft a lot of difficulty, but staying there was always his first priority.

    The Carson stadium project was actually the second attempt to build one. The first attempt was in 1995 when the league was about to expand. Also, another reason he left was he wanted guarantees on the PSL's. However, what never gets mentioned is that at the time Davis owed millions to the IRS and he needed the money in a hurry. So it was either move the team or sell his interest in the team.
      Also, the Raiders moving back to Oakland had an unforseen side effect. Had the plans for the stadium gone through the next step was to tear down the Forum and build a new arena in the parking lot. However, when the plans fell through AEG, who owned the Kings, decided to build the arena that became Staples Center in Downtown LA.

Hosting the Olympics takes a lot to host it. Look at other places that hosted the Olympics. The buildings were left abandoned and were never used again. I wouldn't be crazy about a football stadium in downtown Buffalo, but the open-air stadium they're building in Orchard Park is a boondoggle at best. The awning isn't going to protect fans from rain, snow, or cold. The heated seats will be out of order before you know it. They've already changed the number of heated seats to just a fraction of what was originally promised. And best of all, they've barely broken ground and it's already more than $300 million over budget. Should have just build a domed stadium.

Of course there were some tweaks (LIKE alligent is a domed stadium because games in Vegas could easily be played in Temps near or over 100°F well into October) but o erall the designs are pretty similar, almost like the Carson stadium was a rough draft for the final design in Vegas for Alligent Stadium.

      @1999bill1999 it's extremely rare for the NFL to allow 2 stadiums to be built within the same county or counties, while representing the same city they're based in. Though in the alternative world, I wish the Chargers (aka Chokers) would've been calling the City of Industry/Grand Crossing Stadium home and being named the "Anaheim Chargers," despite playing in L.A. County, but not only that, the Clippers could've been playing their home games at the Honda Center, while sharing the arena with the Ducks. Heck, Anaheim getting an MLS expansion team, instead of L.A. getting another one.
      This is how it would've been in a alternative universe:
      Anaheim Chargers
      Anaheim Angels (no name change)
      Anaheim Clippers
      Anaheim Ducks
      Anaheim FC (imaginary name)
      All these O.C. teams would've represented the O.C. and the I.E. while competing with the L.A. teams that have more success than their counterparts.
      I know this my long writing and wishing this existed today.

    • @craigphillips3154
      @craigphillips3154 ปีที่แล้ว

      "In the future" being 30 years down the road. They have only been in MetLife Stadium for 13 years. They do have an "opt-out" in 2 years and then every 5 years after that. The caveat is that they have to give 12 months' notice. So, if they wanted to leave in 2 years then they would have to announce that in 12 months. THAT isn't going to happen. They couldn't find a suitable alternative that quickly. So, the first legitimate opportunity to move would be at the 20-year mark in 7 years. 7 years is about the minimum amount of time it would take, especially given all of the red tape that New York is notorious for. Then the question becomes, "Where?" It would likely be a $2B+ project to build an NFL football stadium somewhere in New York City. For reference, NYCFC is spending over $700M to build a 25,000 seat soccer stadium next to Citi Field. That's about 1/3 the size of what an NFL stadium would need to be and the land they're building on is already cleared and part of the Citi Field property.

    One great thing about Allegiant Stadium here in Vegas is that, even though $750 million of public funds were used to help fund the stadium, in order to basically pay that back, it was decided to raise the room tax that visitors have to pay when renting rooms at the various hotels here in Vegas and because of that, the $750 mil was basically payed almost 100% back in the 3 years it took to build the stadium.
    So, for all of us Vegas NFL fans that have wanted an NFL team here for as long as we can remember (though I am not a Raiders fan, I am still happy to finally have an NFL team to go with our NEW and not relocated NHL team) I just want to say THANK YOU to all of the tourists who basically foot the bill for the amount that the state of Nevada decided to put up to help have the stadium built.

    • @sjdrifter72
      @sjdrifter72 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's a shame the Carson project didn't get approved and the stadium never got built, because L.A fans wanted the Raiders back more than the Rams. Raider Nation is much stronger in SoCal and most of the fanbase is located in Los Angeles than in both Oakland and Las Vegas. It was very evident when the Raiders were at SoFi Stadium to play both the Chargers and Rams and there was nothing but fans clad in Silver and Black. Raiders in Las Vegas just feels wrong..they're a California team.
      I'm glad you got your own NHL team instead of taking someone else's, but Quebec City was more deserving than Vegas or Seattle because it made more sense to bring back the Nordiques before putting another team in the desert or one in the Pacific Northwest.

    • @BDQ1975
      @BDQ1975 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, the Rams got the stadium that the Chargers are tenants to. However, both teams were on opposite sides to return to LA in the mid 2010’s.
      Stan Kronke purchased the land that was formerly the Hollywood Park Racetrack in Inglewood. The Chargers, with the Raiders proposed a stadium in Carson. The Raiders/Chargers got the initial approval from the stadium committee but Jerry Jones met with all the other owners and suggested that they get behind Kronke’a stadium cause Stan had the big pockets to ensure the Rams didn’t fail in LA.
      When the Rams won the vote to relocate, the NFL gave the Chargers the first shot at relocating to LA if their city, San Diego, didn’t support their proposal on a new stadium.
      In the 2016 election, the City of Sam Diego voted on the stadium and rejected the ideal. On the one year anniversary of the Rams winning the relocation vote, the Chargers informed the NFL their intention to relocate to LA into SoFi Stadium.
