Each of these are undeniable legends who were unlucky enough to play their entire careers being constantly over shadowed by at least 1 GOAT candidate:
West and Baylor couldn't overcome Chamberlain and Russel when they're centers in an era where centers defined your team. Wings and guards no matter how good, have an almost impossible time winning MVP, unless you're doing a carry job for a finals team or have a breakout season with the championship winning Celtics
Thomas and Drexler had MJ, Bird and Magic. Unless all 3 of them somehow have an off-year you're not getting the recognition.
Wade and CP3 had King James overshadowing them their entire career, and for much of their career had guys like Duncan and Kobe.
Hayes had Kareem, who has the most MVPs in history.
Nature of the beast is GOAT candidates in their prime are almost impossible to take down, and even legends have a short window of 6-8 seasons max where they can win an MVP. Its not like an all-star showing or all-nba showing where so many win that everyone who 'deserves' one gets one. Only 34 players have won an MVP in league history, so its even more cut throat than top 50 all-time.

@@kb4231 If they switched teams the Heat would have won about 50 games and the Cavs would have won about 60. Wade was great in that season, but LeBron's 2009 MVP season was a top 5 - 10 MVP season ever, and you could argue it was the best ever because no other MVP has ever won 65 plus games without another all NBA player. He also would've won DPOY that season if not for Dwight Howard. The Cavs roster in '09 was certainly more healthy, better and more consistent than Wade's Heat roster, and way better defensively, but I would say that Cavs team simply suited LeBron's game perfectly rather than being a great supporting cast, which it wasn't. Similar to Chris Paul on the '08 Hornets or David Robinson Spurs in the mid 90's.

You're that talented and you resort to blatant flopping? Cmon now. Then of course there's the fact that his prime was far too short, partly due to all the flopping he did. You land awkwardly like that for so many years and it's gonna take a toll on your knees.
I completely disagree in that he gets "mad disrespect." He's gotten the amount of respect he deserves. He's pretty much universally seen as a top 5 SG, which is exactly what he is. He's clearly behind MJ and Kobe, and I'd put Drexler over him as well. Some may say he's better than Drexler, and that's fine. Imo, Wade never really deserved an MVP.
Yes, he was a great player, but as you already mentioned, his best seasons were in years where others were clearly more deserving. It's tough to give it to any guy due to great stats when their team record is average or bad. You've covered this issue before, usually if you're a superstar on a terrible team, your stats are going to be inflated because you're taking more shots, handling the ball more, etc. That's one of the reasons Kobe didn't get one when he was out there putting up crazy numbers as well.

    • @Herosennin
      @Herosennin 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

That explanation wasnt as thorough tho. Stats will be inflated because of taking more shots but the chance of a lower effeciency gains with every shot taken especially when people double team you every possession like Kobe was actually triple teamed.
IMO Kobe sure as hell deserved that MVP but Wade's case is different.

    • @THE_BEAR_JEW
      @THE_BEAR_JEW 4 ปีที่แล้ว

Herosennin the more shots you take, the less each shot counts against or towards your efficiency. Thus, it is more likely that your efficiency will look decent if you’re a superstar player. Even a highly inefficient Westbrook can reach a respectable fg% if he takes enough shots.
Also, Kobe wasn’t doubled or tripled all the time. It’s still the NBA and you can’t afford to leave people open.
I think Kobe had an amazing season, but his stats aren’t impressive from an efficiency standpoint. As far as efficiency, it was good not great.

It's like these people think that a superstar can just hit 80% of his shots if you put only one guy on him. Even when a SG is hot, a great game is around 50%-55%, anything above that is incredibly rare even for Kobe.

Wade was a good help defender, but was never an on ball stopper. He did force turnovers, but gambled a lot and got caught out of position since he roamed off his man for steals and blocks. This lead to easy buckets for the other team. He was a good defender overall, but never DPOY material.

D Wade's team was in the lotto the previous season in which he didn't play due to injury. That means he got his team another 20+ wins with no other roster additions other than Michael Beasley. Yes, 66 wins is great, but those 43 wins are worth something as it's literally a lottery team with Wade. Also, Wade was and still is the only player in NBA history to record 2000 points, 500 assists, 100 blocks and 100 steals in a season during that season. For that, you gotta put him ahead of Chris Paul. The guy comes back from an injury, joins a lottery team, and gets them back into the playoffs while making history? And while playing both sides of the ball as a top 3 player on both ends? Yep. Above Chris Paul.

I think another thing to keep in mind was the season before, in 08 the Heat had a league worst 15 wins, and in turn the biggest turnaround in NBA history (at the time) by winning 28 more games in 09, so the 43 wins look much more impressive.
If the Heat won at least 50 games I think Wade would've been deserving.. but even Chris Paul's Hornets had a much better supporting cast so it's tougher to compare their numbers

On top of that he's playing for a loaded team and most importantly he doesn't give a fuck about regular season due to the fact that his injury is actually something that he cannot recover from completely and doing too much in the regular season would actually shorten his career.

He led the league in PER, WS/48, VoRP, and Box +/-. He was only slightly behind Tim Duncan in overall WS.
He crushed Offensive win shares. He was first with 13.2. Second was Kobe with 11.0. The 2.2 difference between 1 and 2 is the same as #2 to #8

Disagree. Duncan at that point in time was one of the league's best defenders finishing 4th in DPOY voting (although it could be argued he should have been higher) while T-Mac didn't make an All-Defensive Team. Also, Duncan had a higher PER w/ 29.9 while T-Mac had 28.8. T-Mac was great that year, but imo he deserved 3rd after Duncan and KG.

@@jonathansykes4986 T-Mac's team barely made the playoffs in a hilariously bad Eastern conference. MVP is heavily based on team success. No one is winning MVP on a 42 win team (especially in a weak conference) unless they put up historic numbers. Duncan carried his team to 60 wins in a brutal West and was even better in the postseason.

@@the757general2 Nikola Jokic won MVP as his team was the 6th seed. Russell Westbrook won MVP when his team was the 6th seed, even though James Harden had a legitimate case for that MVP title as his stats were roughly near Westbrook's and his team won 8 more games that season.
Nikola Jokic team was 48-34. Westbrook's team was 47-35. Both of their team's lost in the first round, just like McGrady's Magic did.
In 2002-03 on that "42-40" orlando magic team, Tracy McGrady led the entire league in
      PER
      VoRP
      Box +/-
      Offensive box +/-
      Offensive win shares
      Win Shares per 48 minutes
And was tied for 2nd in total overall winshares (Duncan #1 at 16.5, Dirk/McGrady tied at 16.1).
McGrady also lead the league in Points per game average 32.1 points (2.1 points per game more than Kobe who was #2). His stat line was 32/6.5/5.5.
If that vote was held today, McGrady would have won MVP instead of finishing 4th.
Also if you go "lol advanced stats, nerd, who cares", the last person to win MVP who did not lead the league in the PER stat was Steph Curry in 2014-15 (where he came in 3rd).
Leading the league in PER, WS/48, VoRP means you performed the best which means you should get the MVP.
