💃 Colombian cuisine is often judged unfairly by foreigners who expect exotic dishes but fail to appreciate the home-cooked meals or higher-end restaurants.
💰 Colombia is classified as a middle-income economy with rich natural resources, but faces challenges like corruption and a struggling education system.
🚨 Despite safety concerns, Colombia is safer than many U.S. cities, and visitors should be aware of cultural safety practices to avoid risks.
👩‍🦱 Colombian women are more than just beautiful; they are strong, independent, educated, and passionate individuals who offer much more than just their looks.

The sad part is that third world is a term from the 1950s Cold War, which was given to countries that did not want to take sides in the conflict between the United States (1st World) and the Soviet Union (2nd World). Third world wasn't intended to describe any county's economic status. Another example of how people have rewrote history.

El respeto por nuestro hermosísimo país goes behind the usual narco fantasy: I lovey country 🙏🦋🇨🇴

@MedellinBuzz I have been living in Barranquilla since Nov. 2022 (not counting April, May, and June of same year). It took me just a few months to realize that most Colombians lie as easily as they breathe. And that words like "honest", "loyalty", "monogamy" "seasoning", "spice", and "schedules" mean ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to them (might as well be speaking Swahili to them at that point). But, when I tactfully and sincerely made that observation to some expats (and a few locals), they not only sh!t on my questions, they proceed to GASLIGHT ME!! Made me question by 5 freakin' senses. I kid you not... I actually asked my doctor if I should get screened for Early-Onset Alzheimers 🥺

Bogota is a virtual fortress. You won't be committing any crimes there. You've never seen anything like it. There are usually 3-4 armed cops with dogs on most street corners. Add to that there are security guards dispersed throughout every block. They have guns and some of them have dogs as well. Every store has security guards with guns so you won't be shoplifting. Your belongings are always checked as you leave the store. Don't even think about committing a crime in Bogota. Bogota authorities fight crime the right way. None of this calling 911 nonsense and waiting for an hour for cops to arrive. The cops in Bogota are positioned among the people walking the beat as they should be.

On the matter of crime statistics, I believe that cime is 13:37 greatly under-reported in Colombia because people are distrustful of police. The first good dish you presented was what looked like a Paisa plate, with the eggs, beans, arepa, and pork skins. Those or something similar are often part of the lunch specials. I'll take a pass, but am glad for Burger King and Rappi. 🤣😉
Comparing Medellin to the worst of US cities like Baltimore, Atlanta, Chicago and the like calling it "more safe" based on murder stats is an invalid comparison. Why? Because there's a lot of ways people are harmed where murder isn't involved. Who knows what the robbery stats in Medellin are as most go unreported. Also it matters a lot what part of Atlanta or Baltimore you live in. Murder stats in such places are heavily spiked by gang conflicts, so if you aren't in a gang or living around the same, you can usually comfortably live behind one locked door. While the experience of an obvious North American in a place like Medellin is different in many ways. While the US State Dept is largely right, I'll still return, will dress down as usual, keep my wits about me and won't display wealth. That said I'll still be followed by beggars and thieves. I'll follow the precautions, but am still at more risk than in my home city in the States, but they are risks I'm willing to take.
Who in the States leaves their phone or bag sitting unattended when they go to the bathroom? Maybe in some tiny rural town where everyone knows one another, but even still that's a terrible idea. I'd never dream of it.
Also, if Colombians really want to move beyond the Narco image, they could dial back some of the partying. Heck they love drugs so much they created their own designer sensation, the pink stuff that is flowing into the States and Europe. At the suggestion of another TH-camr, "Don't create Disneyland then complain when people come and want to see Mickey and Donald Duck."
PS When talking about Baltimore, for the sake of balance, tell the audience that Colombia as a whole has over 6 times the murder rate as the States as a whole. Feel free to fact check that. Thanks for another great video. 😀😀

The problem with Colombia is the taxes. Anything over 1k gets taxed, not heavy, but at 2,5k and up 35% roughly. Plus complications actually moving larger chunks of cash. Capital controls international taxes -taxes a foriegn made gains. Capital gains taxes 35%.
Excessive regulation on imports and excessive taxs on importing. 20% tax on most food.
In excess of 30% apy interest on all loans I know of. Which large cap assets like houses dont have people , few buyers due to high cost of capital even if they have the down payment. Hard to sell. Not lots people who can or who are willing to pay those interest rates.
In general excessive buracracy, excessive goverment. Lots of dead wood, unproductive saleried goverment.
Thus a partial list of reasons why Colombia can not progress and is not likely to.
Which why the youth , brain drain - leave. Why most want to leave, because they have no hope.
These problems can be overcome but both left and right , there has been 0 progress.
Colombians are brave, passionate and very intellegent. So as they say its not over till its over.

@@MedellinBuzz that I do not doubt, but bigger capital players cant move in cash ,
Internationals. Suitcases of cash hardly a useful way, except for the narcos perhaps.
If you made a million are going to keep your gains here or go to panama , make interests without being taxed 35%. If you leave then Colombia suffers because thats investment Capital, it pays wages , creates stuff. Some other country gets rich. The people here get squeezed.empty condos in Miami.
Besides which business guys hoarding cash lose at least 12% in devaluation every year, so spend it or lose it. Wheres the long term developement in that? Might as well live high.
Besides these considertions - hardly ideal having a society hiding and lying as a way of life..as survival neccesity.
But we have models that work in SA..

So factually Columbian food is not good, there might be a reason for it but the food is not good. One of the best ways to see how good the food is in a country is to check how many restaurants exist in a major city in the US. Italian, Thai, Mexican, Indian, and other ethnic restaurants are in high numbers because generally, the food is good. Even Peru has made their mark, so Columbia needs to catch up, so better to stop complaining and get better. Chile is in the same spot.
