    One way to get the engine to turn over if it's not wanting to is to cover the exhaust exit with a binder/book. Usually helps a lot if they're being stubborn...

    Own a '99 1123 and my cold start was doing the exact thing with the relays clicking...put a multi-meter on the glow plug wire and a ground and you will see the voltage pulsing which eventually fried my glow plugs...a new control box is the answer. I had the same version PCB as you and was told it should have never been sold to me like that...the seller did the right thing and sent me a newer version (S3) along with a sending unit and it cold starts no problem!

    I bought a 07 M1097A2 with 40k miles. Stated it doesn't run missing radiator. Hoping its not locked up. I know this is a broad question, but do you have any pointers on how to approach this build or just advice in general about this model? Trying to get a list together to be somewhat prepared for when she arrives.
    Thanks in advance!!

    Yes, very common problem, with wait light, sometimes the KDS protective box goes bad when disconnecting the battery improperly. Other than that they are very tough vehicles and reliable. Hey you got a good M eleven 23, not a one one two three. Other than you got a good buy and get a slant kit.

  • @johncaldwell5959
    @johncaldwell5959 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    Don’t forget to install a cdr valve. When yours was demilitarized they removed the deep fording kit which included a special cdr valve. That is why your heater duct was removed and a standard cdr will work fine.

    • @johncaldwell5959
      @johncaldwell5959 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ps: they installed the elbow off the cdr in its place which will eventually cause issues.

  • @joearmstrong2404
    @joearmstrong2404 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Did you request the operators manual? It usually has good pmcs information. You may want to get the mechanics manual also.

  • @jasonharvey4119
    @jasonharvey4119 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    You should be able to get the ETM manuals online for them the operators 10 manual, the 20 for organizational maintenance and the 30 for direct support/ general support and the 34p for parts. Most parts on the 998 series are Chevy 3/4 ton parts. CV joints are but shafts are not. But just knock joints off the shafts. Keep the maintenance up and grease everything including the shift linkage often overlooked.
    Didn’t do much time working on them in organizational level but rebuilt many an engine and transmission and t cases and diffs for them. They are not speed demon vehicles but cruise comfortably at 55 mph. Will run a very long time if not flogged to death. Several in the 90’s at FT Irwin that ran several hundred thousand miles in nothing but dirt roads and tank trails for the OP4. They are tough and frames can be unbolted and damaged parts removed and bolted back together.

      All in it was probably right around $13,000. Mine is really nice condition though and its one of the newer ones. My winning bid was $10,300. I would say definitely do not bid over $8500 on an older M998 as you can pick up already gone through and street legal m998s for $13,000 - $15,000 off Facebook Marketplace. Definitely worth just spending a few thousand more for something that guaranteed runs and drives and not having to wait 7 or 8 months to get it street legal. If you are going after a newer model like my m1123 though I would say spending around what I did is well worth it. You get a bigger motor, 4 speed trans (so you can actually highway drive), a bit more ride height, and much nicer condition.

I did have to get Gov P to send paperwork stating their dealer number before I could file for my registration. I'm on the road, tag title and insurance now. Had to send pictures of the data plate to the insurance company also. They didn't want to except the serial number instead of a VIN. Enjoy!
