The Garmin GTX 345 also works with FlyQ thru an IFD series Avidyne. I just completed a panel upgrade and am now getting ADS-b in traffic and weather on FlyQ connected to my IFD440. I haven't checked if FlyQ is receiving the AHRS (which is built into the GTX 345) data yet. looks like I'll finally be able to dump Garmin Pilot!

This is a great explaination! Thank you!

I dont' understand why you wouldn't see the other aircraft in your vicinity if you don't have ASD-B Out. Isn't there a peer-to-peer transmission of ADS-B Out data that can be picked up by my ASD-B In receiver? My ADS-B In receiver should pick up all ADS-B transmitting a/c in my area.

Hi Tim. ADS-B via the 978 ground frequency does NOT send all the target it knows about. Rather, it waits for a "ping" from a plane with ADS-B Out then broadcasts back just the targets near that plane (15 NM radius, +/- 3500 ft). I have no idea why they implemented it this way. Thus, you, if you don't have ADS-B Out, you're only seeing targets appropriate for nearby planes that DO HAVE ADS-B Out. So you'll likely see SOME planes, maybe even all. but you simply have no way to know what you don't know.

FlyQ EFB Hi, I get this. But wouldn’t my 1090 MHz receiver pick up the other traffic in my vicinity (peer to peer)?

@@TimToussaint Yes but it would not necessarily see the low-alt traffic. For example, American Airlines, flying at FL350 does not get told about C172 traffic at 3,000 ft -- so neither would you. You really need ADS-B out to get a full picture. Even w/ ADS-B Out, but especially if you don't have it, ADS-B traffic shown on your iPad or in-panel device one of those "trust but verify" (with your eyes) sorts of thing. if you see it on your device, it's there .. but other targets may be also.

So I have a Vintage Plane no Transponder and I Fly mainly in G and E class airspace but I see The Advantages to ADS B out even in my area... The Uavionics tail beacon will fit my Plane will it function without a Transponder ?

Hi, you should probably talk to the folks at uAvionics about that. In general, ADS-B Out requires a WAAS GPS (which I think the unit includes) and data normally sent in a transponder broadcast (and picked up and re-transmitted by the ADS-B unit in the ADS-B Out feed) so I don't know if it would work w/o one.

I am currently installing the Mode-S Dynon Skyview Transponder and GPS antenna that completes my full ADS-B In and Out system. I have been enjoying Weather In only due to the builder installing the ADS-B In module before I purchased the plane. So far, I have been using ForeFlight for my EFB and backup GPS navigation behind the installed Skyview navigation panel. So far, I have found nothing to indicate I will be able to display Traffic information on my rather large and easy to read iPad, using ForeFlight. If this is true, I will likely be moving to Fly-Q for my EFB and backup GPS navigation. Can you provide any further information on configuring my full Dynon SkyView avionics system in order to read ADS-B Traffic on my iPad, running Fly-Q. Thanks

FlyQ can DEFINITELY display the weather and traffic data that SkyView sends out. Configuring is easy -- just wire the ADS-B to SkyView in the usual way (I don't know how to do this, please contact Dynon for that) then use the Wi-Fi dongle from SkyView. Connect the iPad w/ FlyQ to the Wi-Fi network that SkyView produces and fire-up FlyQ. Nothing else to do!
