    watching you perform lots of wiring is "never too boring for words." it's pretty relaxing as a matter of fact ;-)

    Love the contrast and movement of the trunk’s live vein.

    Happy belated birthday Peter! That sabina juniper was good to start with, but you bring out its best character. I agree that we just can't compare to what nature really can do when it comes to forming and creating deadwood. I've been carving and sculpting for years I can come somewhat close but I still need nature to give its refined touch up. It's time, erosion, life and death, and the initial stamp of nature we call a soul that we can't ever recreate.

    My neighbor gifted me a Sabina 15yr old bonsai, now a beatle ate some leafs. I put a sarracenia right next to it so it eats the bug.
    Looking for a piece of dead wood to make it into Tanuki, gotta find the right one, too hard in the trunk.
    Thank's Peter and Herons for the inspiration

    This is so beautiful! Do you have other videos that go into how the driftwood like this would be created?

    Good Morning Peter ,How old is the tree would you say ? lifting the crown was a nice idea as it changed the perspective of the tree from both sides .

      I would guess 80 plus - we have had it at our nursery 12 years and it has hardly grown any thicker in all that time.

    Beautiful work. For this particular piece, approximately how long would you keep the wires on the branches?

    Not sure if they read the comments but I have a long-term question to ask. When styling a tree, do you plan with an approximate number of years in mind? As in, "this tree will look proper in 50 years". Do you always make the tree look as nice as it can? Is the style of the tree continuously changing throughout the life of a 500 year old tree? Do you just expect a 50cm tall tree to look better as 1m tall tree and eventually a 2m tall tree but keeping the same bonsai principles? Is the intent for a tree to be as beautiful as it can for its whole life, or does it have a prime number of years before getting abandoned?

    • @peterchan3100
      @peterchan3100 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      You just have to watch how the tree progresses year by year and do whatever is necessary to keep it healthy and looking good. Very much like us human beings. Small trees get larger with the years so you may have to restyle accordingly and so on. I hope you get the gist of what I am trying to tell you.

    I wonder...when wiring branches to lift them, can they ever be removed? Gravity would bring them down again. ?

    • @SlightlyCivil
      @SlightlyCivil ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I assume that they solidify in that way as the branch grows

    • @andres154525452
      @andres154525452 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yup, they solidify but as long as the wire is there, you can always push it a little upwards. Once it has solidfied in a nice place, when the branch got thicker, you can remove the wire. But then the gravity will start pulling it back again, so after some time you will need to rewire it

    • @andres154525452
      @andres154525452 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Its a continuous improvement

    • @peterchan3100
      @peterchan3100 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You have to keep wiring and rewiring to keep it looking good.

    Would you consider this to be a "Giant Mountain" style bonzai? Meant for bigger trees that are almost too big to be bonsai. The tree itself almost looks like 1 giant mountain but it still teases you with some trunk. I linked to the time in video where you get a good look at it.
