    The new mic is much better as it follows you around and doesn't fade in and out as you move. Thanks for the great maple tips.

    OMG!!! That mic changes everything! Admittedly I stopped watching your videos because of the wind noise and the noise from the constant aeroplanes above. Couldn't stand listening to it. But this is soooo much better! Thank you, I'm now back on your channel 💚

    Thank you for your video! For me, the new mic. is cuting most of the Plain-noise out, but unfortunally also most of the Atmospheric sound. If I could choose, I woud like to take the "old" sound! More athmospere les studio like. But as you wish! I thank you very much for all of your videos, they gave me a lot of explanation you cant find in books!

    Thank you Peter the pines pruning I think a lot of people have problems with so it is very worthwhile to demonstrate how you deal with them. This weekend we had visitors to our garden for a barbecue, I get the same old remark I had a bonsai bought for me and it died, another remark shouldn’t all the trees be inside the house. I suggest they what your common sense videos and they will learn a lot from you but I expect they won’t bother. I tell them bonsai is a commitment to keep the tree the best it can be, not something to be just looked at and admired as you sit in the garden with your drinks.

      It helped me a lot. It’s amazing to me how 100 people can explain something and not one mL will absorb into my brain but 2 sentences from Peter explains it all!🤣👍. Each node in a pine was a candle… that’s all we need to really know.

    Recently finished Summer work on my 40 years old Deshojo. Still learning daily. Thank you mr. Chan 🙌
    A tip for everyone, if you aim for smaller leafs, don’t fertilize after leaf pruning. They will grow even bigger. I experienced this a few seasons ago 😄

    I like that you encourage us to experiment with different techniques so that we learn from our own experiences.
    The pruning looks great.
    The microphone works so well at blocking out airplane noises and we can hear your very well. I imagine the microphone will be a nice addition when you are walking around in the grown growing fields.

    Very good! Not only the new mic but I would say: pay attention to that leaving-the-petioles! I think that's quite important and I practice that for quite a few decades now. It protects and feeds the new buds that are growing or will grow from the leaf axil. To my opinion it's quite an important instruction and lesson and really a great help for the trees to make new leaves and foliage. It is certainly my experience for many years. Keep up the good works, mr Chan!

    I have a douglas pine (new to me), about 5ft tall and still kinda young. Do these back bud well when pruning as if its a pine? Got some lower branches (first 2- 2 1/2 feet) with zero needles so guessing they are dead, can be removed and made into some jin, after that all branches have needles. Beginner in bonsai and eager to learn so appreciate the help 😊

    Much improved sound quality, thank you. It seems cruel to leaf prune, but I can understand the necessity when sun burning has occurred, or irreversible wilting after a little watering neglect. A good reminder from you to only lightly wire maples, I made the mistake of wiring and shaping a trunk and in less than a year, the trunk had swollen and almost covered the wire. It has produced an interesting effect, the cause of which is blatantly obvious though. Artistic or rookie error?

    Dear Mr. Peter Chan, I love watching your videos! It’s very calming and also I learn from it every time:-)
    I have a question hopefully you can help me with.
    A couple of weeks ago I dug up an japanese maple from the ground. It’s a red maple, not sure what kind, not a dissectum. Anyway, my friend who has had it for more than 15 years was moving out and I was given the maple.
    At first I wanted to put it in a pot, so I removed quite alot of roots to fit it into the pot. But then later I decided to put it in the ground in my own front yard.
    Sadly I think the tree was suffering from the big operation, cutting the roots and standing in full sun for a week, so most of the leaves have been scorched.
    So my question is; I believe the tree will recover and the roots will grow, but should I leaf cut it? Most of the leaves are falling off and I wonder if it is safe to defoliate it… giving the circumstances.. roots are stressed, not the suitable time to have done this, but I had no choice.
    Should I leave the tree alone or cut all the leaves and let it produce a second crop?
    I hope you have any advice on the matter. Or anyone who has ideas thanks very much!!

    • @peterchan3100
      @peterchan3100 หลายเดือนก่อน

      If you live in the northern hemisphere and you dug it up in Summer - then the chances of survival for this tree will be very low. You also removed quite a lot of root - that is dangerous to do. Dont dig it up again - just leave it in your front yard and keep it watered. With a bit of luck it might survive but dont be disappointed if it doesn't. Learn from your mistake.

    Nice video. Not a bonsai but I had to remove all the leaves on a blueberry bush a couple of months back because it got really scorched. It was so bad thought I was going to lose it. It's now covered in new leaves so the technique really does work. Is that beautiful shirt inspired by Monet? Also can we have an update on the cuttings you took from the pines? Did they take?

    The microphone works great for filtering out the plane noise, but now we can’t hear the birds (nature) in the background. Just remember to not use the microphone on your walks through the nursery and the property 😉. Loved this video, I had to defoliate two of my maples this summer, so far the new crop is small.

    Sir Chan, I have read couple of your books and watch videos now. My 15 yrs old trident maple never leaf this year. Buds did swell but that's all. Is it dead and what could be the reason?

    • @peterchan3100
      @peterchan3100 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Did you repot it ? If you did then this could be a reason for it not leafing. Could also be due to the very hard winter you may have had.

    This is a bit of a naive question but what is the point of leaf cutting? Is the tree at risk of dying or is it purely an aesthetic procedure? I'd imagine if left in the state these trees were, they'd drop their leaves in autumn and bounce back in the spring.
    Also, the new mic sounds great ... at the expense of some of the old Heron's charm.

    • @Chris-oq6kn
      @Chris-oq6kn 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      The point of leaf cutting that peter shows is if ur maple tree gets sunburned and all the leafs dry out its no longer going to photosythesize therefore u are cutting to force the tree to produce new leafs to put energy back into the tree. Also can make the leafs smaller. Be carefull though ive had many small young maples die either bec it didnt have enough strength to push another set of leafs out or once the new leafs emerge u have to take care of them meaning dont let them get saturated by rain and burnt by sun again. And remember no leafs uses less water . Sometimes could be tricky depending how old ur maple is. Hope this helps

    Peter , can you dive deeper into defoliating JM . I have a JM that has been little sun scorched but I’m trying to understand if I should defoliate or Not . I’m worried I’ll be tapping into the trees energy reserves and I don’t wanna tap into the tree’s energy if it will mean it’ll affect next seasons strength

      Ive had alot of young maples die but its the aftercare thats really important and depends how old ur maple is. Few leafs i wouldnt worry . All depends how strong that maple is. I have alot of 1 gal maples and some die. Def put in shade and watch those new leafs as they emerge like a hawk cause if they go ur tree may die
