    Automatic choke or an automatic cold start device has been in use for some time is a bimetal thermostatic spring or piston. This closes the choke plate when cold and then progressively opens the flap as the engine warms up.
    It's important that the choke plate is fully close during cold engine start.

      Try the TH-cam settings Glenn, there is auto-convert function to put subtitles into English that work well. It analyses the speech so isn't perfect, i casnt seem to get it to work on this video but his other videos on the carb do convert.

      Ginawa ko sa choke ko yan air. Ang ginawa ko na initial opening e slight lang. Na-observe ko pag uminit na engine ay fully opened ito. Ayaw lang magsara o bumalik sa dati dahil tumatama pala dun sa F-rod na horizontal ng diaphragm. Ang pumipigil sir e yung naka vertical na may spring dito sa demo. Pwede kaya ituwid ko yun sir at medyo curve cya. Paramg yun ang design.. thank you.

    Super common on my DB71T with the F5A engine. I swapped out the carburetor for the grizzly 660 carburetor and deleted the EGR. Works great 👍

      Anything I need to know about doing that to my DB71? I've had mine for a couple months and it's cold blooded and having hard time finding parts for the 71. How much DB51 parts are compatible?

Absolutely nobody is going all out on these F5A engines. I'm itching to give her full send. The more I look, the more I find to improve it.

      Hello gc voon, the choke plate should be fully closed when the engine is cold, but when you start the cold engine, the choke plate will automatically open at less than 10% due to initial vacuum from the carburetor going to the choke actuator (this openning will create high velocity flow of air going to the carburetor jets), this slight openning of the choke plate will create a temporary rich mixture to the combustion chamber and gradually increase the engine temperature, Once the engine reach the normal operating temperature, that's the time the choke plate should be on fully open position. There are three elements that controls the choke plate position, # 1 is the choke actuator controlled by the vacuum in the carburetor, # 2 is the thermo valve controlled by the engine coolant temperature passing into the carburetor waterlines and # 3 is the throttle cable controlled by the accelerator gas pedal. So by sequence, choke actuator will take the first control of the choke plate due to the initial vacuum in the carburetor, then once the coolant temperature become hot and good enough to push the thermo valve, this will take over the control of the choke plate for automatic and gradual openning of the choke plate until it reach the normal engine operating temperature, If booth # 1 and # 2 elements are not working, the work around is to gradually/slightly open the throtle plate by depressing the accelerator gas pedal just to start the engine. but once you release the accelerator pedal, there's a possibility that the engine will stop, that's why it's important that in the carburetor, at least the choke actuator is functional so that the choke plate will not go fully closed position once you release the accelerator pedal. You can try to watch video1 below about the operation of the choke from cold to hot. If the choke plate is fully open even the engine is cold, you can just adjust the choke plate by watching video2 below. This is my opinion only based on my experience working on the carburetor.

      Boss pwede po manual control, halimbawa po yung opening and closing ng choke plate pwede mag lagay ng cable, may na bibili po na choke cable, pwede rin yung sa motor na di choke cable. kung walang choke cable, pwede tali basta yung choke plate arm ay meron pang spring para pag release nyu ng tali, automatically mag close yung choke plate, importante ito during cold engine start. Sa vacuum line naman, pwede nyu po restore yung mga vacuum lines nya, watch nyu po yung video ko about vacuum line.

      Boss sa tingin ko lang po pag cold engine start ang mga valves ay hindi pa nag eexpand, meaning yung mga valves ay hindi pa nag fufully close and this will cause weak vacuum ng engine, hindi pa fully develop yung na cecreate na vacuum ng ating engine, so mahina pa yung pump or pag higop nya ng air/fuel sa ating carburetor, kaya po mahalaga yung gumaganang choke plate, fast idle at gumaganang thermostat para madaling mapainit gradually yung ating makina at gradual din yung pag expand ng mga valves, pag mainit na po, yung mga valves ay fully expand na at lapat na lapat na po yung valve seat sa valve face, meaning fully close na talaga yung ating mga valves, this will create better vacuum na po. so importante po na fully functional or in good working condition po yung ating carburetor and proper valve clearance.

    Sir sana matugunan ang problema ko s multicab ko,ganito kc ang nangyari 3 months palang ang unit ko simula nabili nung una sa loob ng 3 months na yan ok naman cya manakbo as in masarap iharurut,pero nitong bago lang bigla cya na parang nabulunan chinicheck ko sir ang liit ng open ng choke nya normal lng ba talaga yun?kc nung una ok naman di cya na parang nabulunan posible kaya tulad jn sa pinakita mo yan ang dahilan kc tinatry ko ifull press ang pedal pero di nkaandar makina ang liit lang ng open nya,sanay matugunan mo ito sir salamat

      Boss para malaman kung ok pa ang operation ng choke plate nyu, try nyu po muna obserbahan ang operation nito, watch nyu po yung video sa baba about sa choke plate operation during cold engine and hot engine. remove nyu lang po ang rubber boot in between sa carburetor intake and air cleaner. Kung ivideo nyu sya, wag nyu lang ilapit masyado ang celphone bali zoom nyu lang para iwas damage sa celphone nyu and for safety narin. then inform nyu po ako about sa naging observation nyu.

      Boss kailangan ma check first yung timing nya, pag ok naman po yung timing, kailangan ma check yung valve clearance specially dun sa intake valve, dapat during compression stroke, fully close yung intake valve, pag hindi po kasi fully close yung valve, during power stroke, dito dadaan yung ibang unburned gases pabalik sa intake manifold, papuntang carburetor.

      sa tingin ko po ay hindi, pag automatic transmission po kasi ay dapat yung mga sensors ng automatic transmission ay naka connect sa ECU for proper control. Pero may mga F6A engine na EFI with Automatic Transmission Controller.

      Boss base sa f6a carburetor ko, wala po syang secondary throttle, sa mga replacement carburetor naman for f6a, isa lang yung throttle nya.

      Boss double check nyu po yung vacuum connection nyu sa carburetor, baka naka condem yung ibang port tapos naka connect yung vacuum port ng fast idle dun sa vacuum port ng charcoal canister. pag condem po yung mga vacuum port, mas maganda kung naka separate sila.

      thank you po paps more power po! isa pa tanong paps pano po kapag yung vacuum port para sa babang diaphragm ng fast idle ay wala na vacuum tapos may gasolina lumalabas ano po possible cause po tyaka ano solusyon paps. yung sakin po kasi ganon pati yung port para sa choke plate kaya ang ginawa ko ikinonek ko muna sa dalawang vacuum port ng intake manifold yung para sa aircon at sa 4x4@@UDoITchannel

      hindi na po ba gumagana yung auto choke nya? kung slightly close at nasa normal engine operation temperature ay possible nasa rich mixture ito at idle, meaning mas madami fuel vs. sa hangin ang pumapasok sa combustion chamber during idle or kapag long idle ay medyo ma takaw ito sa gasolina, pero kung high rev, ay ok lang ito kasi once nag full open throttle ay mag oopen naman ang choke plate.

      @UDoITchannel Good pm master. Yung choke plate ng carb ko ay condemn na. Andun parin na nakakabit yung plate pero para lang syang naka float o wala na sang connection dun sa mga parts sa gilid at naka expose dahil wala na yung air filter hose na dapat naka connect sa air filter box. Ganto ko na sya nung nabili yung f6a na van. Salamat at mapansin mo Sana. More power.

      Boss ideally po pag mag start ng engine lalo na pag sa umaga at malamig ang makina, dapat po talaga naka fully close po yung choke plate tapos pag nag start na yung makina, slightly mag oopen po yung choke plate ng mga 10% approximately. kaya po dapat naka close yung choke para po maging RICH po yung mixture ng air/fuel ratio Temporarily, bali ang ideal ratio po ng air/fuel is 14:1 meaning 14 parts of air and 1 part of fuel for perfect combustion po at normal engine temperature meaning pag mainit na po yung makina dapat ang air/fuel mixture ay 14:1, since malamig pa po ang makina, na ngangailangan po ito ng RICH or madaming fuel temporarily during cold engine start, pag naka close po yung choke, nirerestrict po natin ang flow ng air dun sa combustion chamber so ang nagiging temporary ratio ng air/fuel at cold engine ay 4:1 (RICH or madami fuel compare sa air) this ratio increases as the engine temperature increases, so that by the time po na normal na ang engine operating temperature, a correct ratio can be used na po which is 14:1, as you can noticed, constant po yung fuel=1 and by adjusting or by closing the choke plate, na babago natin yung air/fuel ratio by controlling yung volume ng air na pumapasok sa combustin chamber from 4 to 14 using choke plate. watch nyu po yung video1 sa baba about choke plate in action.

      Boss opinion ka lang po ito na pag na stuck po yung choke plate sa
      close position, ito po ang possible scenario:
      1. During cold engine start, wala po magiging problema, aandar ang
      makina. ang air/fuel ratio ay nasa 4:1 instead of normal ratio na 14:1.(14 parts of air and 1 part of fuel)
      2. Pag mainit na yung makina, dito nyu na po mararamdaman yung
      bahagyang epekto nya (uneven running ng makina), mag papatuloy po yung rich condition status parin nya.(4:1 na ratio)
      3. Pag nag transition na po kayo from idle to slow speed, yung
      aarangkada na po kayo, hindi po magiging smooth yung acceleration response. minsan namamatay pa ang engine pag bigla yung opening ng throttle plate at fully open position, kasi mas magiging rich yung mixture dahil mag susupply pa yung accelerator pump ng additional fuel. iba pa ito sa fuel na sinusupply ng mga jets.
      Pag na stuck naman po yung choke plate sa 1/2 open position, ito po
      yung possible scenario:
      1. During cold engine start, hirap po mag start.
      2. Since hirap mag start, ang ginawa po natin minsan, tinatapakan po
      natin ng tinatapakan yung gas pedal, so yung accelerator pump, mag susupply po ng additional fuel sa cylinder, this will create rich mixture. pag nagkataon po at na meet yung 4:1 na ratio, mag start po yung makina, ngayun po pag ang ratio ay 3:1 meaning napasubra ng fuel, mag start parin ang engine pero mag bubuga ito ng maitim na usok pansamantala.
      Pag na stuck naman po sa yung choke plate sa full open position, hindi po mag sstart yung makina. Base lang po ito sa na experience ko, maaaring tama po ako at pwede rin na mali po ako.

    Magandang araw boss, naactivate ko na po yong automatic choke gaya ng nasa tutorial nyo.. may na pansin lang po ako sa sasakyan pag hindi pa gaanong mainit yong makina parang ayaw tumakbo ng sasakyan parang nakaclose pa yong choke pero pag mainit na ukie naman.. hindi ko agad nagagamit kailangan pang painitin, may paraan po ba para magamit ko agad yong sasakyan boss?       Boss yung hard starting mo ba during cold engine
      start? or kahit during warm yung engine? pag hard
      start po during cold engine, try nyu po double check
      yung choke ng carburetor kung naka close, para mag ka
      roon ka ng initial rich mixture during cold engine
      start, yung basa na sparkplug naman po, ay indication
      ito ng rich mixture, meaning madami gasolina compare
      sa hangin, since madami, yung iba hindi na susunog
      during combustion dun sa cylinder, Kung ok naman po yung choke nyu, double check nyu po yung air/fuel mixture nyu dun sa carburetor.

Kc nga po lagi xa nka open ung choke plate ko tulad po ng nasabi ko sa isang comment ko. Pde b sir baklasin muna ung diaphragm ng auto choke un pong may shape na "F" ang hirap po kc isabit. Paturo nmn po.. eto po ung mag ko close ng chokeplate d po b? Bka magkaron kau ng time sir, Isa pong malaking pasasalamat kung mkakagawa po kau. At beneficial po ito hindi lng skin kundi s lahat po!       Boss wala po kasi akng monashi na carb, meron akng spare na carb pero replacement sya for monashi and kenji tapos wala na syang auto choke, try ko boss sa susunod na mga araw gawa ng video. About naman dun sa naka bukas na choke plate, ang alam ko po sa monashi at kenji na carb ay double acting type yung choke actuator, meaning dalawang vacuum yung pumasok dun sa actuator, yung isang vacuum to open yung choke and yung isang vacuum is to close yung choke. baka po mali yung vacuum ang naka connect dun sa choke actuator. send po kayo ng pic ng carb nyu sa FB ko or video para try ko ma check.

Un pong bandang ibaba na vacuum port try ko po na i vacuum gamit po ung injection katulad sau na sya ung humihila papasok dun sa letter F shape tpos po ung isa na vac port sa taas nmn ganun din po ginawa ko pero wla po syang reaksyon khit anong suck gwin ko mejo matigas pa nga po eh. Balak ko nga po baklasin ng unti unti or ung part muna na un ng vacuum port choke actuator pra malaman ko bka madumi or clogged na. Tapos un pong spring na nagbibigay ng tension to open/close ung choke plate eh gusto kong malaman kung saan tlga sinasabit ung kbilang dulo nia pra mag ka tensyon at matamaan ng letter F shape pra sa tmang rpm. Nag ka interes ako d2 sa choke plate or butterfly na tinatawag d2 smin sa cavite bkit laging full open sya khit kaka off lng ng engine. Pag i-set ko sa slightly open pihitin ko ung screw nia wild nmn at npaka taas ng rpm. Ang duda ko sir, eh hindi nga po nkakabit ung spring at ung arm hindi perpendicular ang pagkakaset up. Itry ko tlga magbaklas matigas kc ung mga bolt nia tapos pikete ang pwestuhan sa pagbira. Maikabit lng un plagay ko ma minimize or mejo mag normal ung choke plate. Ung diapraghm n nagbibigay ng high rpm during cold start nka manual ung vacuum..i-vacuum ko muna sya ng isang hila bgo ko atart. Tas blik sa low rpm or sa setting ko 900 to 1k rpm hindi n po kyanin ung 800 palag makina at sobrang mababa ang reading ng vacuum gauge. Malaki sir naitulong skin ng tutorials mo ginaya ko lhat ng pwede na kya kong i-execute like ung piso sa ilalim ng accelerator pedal. Thumbs up sir.       Sir pwede ko ba i-apply sa mohashi carb ko ang pag adjust ng spring ng choke plate ? Kasi po sa obserbasyon ko Hindi Lang tams ang adjustment ng Spring kaya laging fully open choke plate ko. Iperpendicular ko muna bago ko ibalik ang Spring.

      Boss ok lang naman, bali ang ginagawa ng iba, pag hindi na gumagana yung automatic choke nila, nag lalagay sila ng cable for manual control ng choke plate. importante kasi ang choke for cold engine start and sa fuel consumption.
