Rail is far better that buses, however Mexico’s rail system was dismantled back in the 1990s to favor bus companies with conflict of interest, the guys dismantling passenger rail were shareholders of many bus companies. Great video!!
I spent weeks traveling across the US on the train, and have always preferred trains to other modes of transportation. Glad to see some new lines and it sounds like many more are to come.
That figures. It's what happen with a subway system that used to be in the Los Angeles area decades ago. GM, a tire company, oil company and another big company company or two had bought the subway system. They wanted to shut it down which they did. To promote car usage.
¡Gracias por invitarme! México ha sido un anfitrión increíble estos últimos meses. ✌️ ------------------- Thank you for having me! Mexico has been an incredible host these past months. ✌️
I am happy that this train is increasing the turism in my state Campeche, before the train it was practically forgoten by turism and now i see more tourists but sadly not in my city because the train dont pass there but it still benefits us because the money is spend in all the state including my city Ciudad del Carmen, good review!
I almost made a visit to Ciudad del Carmen along my travels, but the timing didn't work out. Looked like a lovely city! I agree that overall, it will be of benefit. Campeche (my next two videos), was a beautiful city, and I mentioned a few times how surprised I was that most people don't think to go there when visiting Mexico. I think the train will help with the whole area. Thank you for watching, I'm glad you enjoyed it! ✌️
Will be nice if we have some tours to visit all town around train maya stations, more important for tourism if they can trust transportation to be safe and trusted to take them from tren maya station to towns and back! Im from Baja California and visit Cancun, Valladolid and Merida, wonderful trip, the only upside down was transportation to hotels, and the worst experience in Cancun Airport! But we love Tren Maya and the towns we visited , we will be back! ❤❤
------ thank you for watching, it was my pleasure to ride the new train and provide an honest review about the experience. Not many people in the US or Canada even know it exists, or how beneficial it will be for so many people.
i had a situation where the train actually got 5 minutes under the time they said we would arrive... its still a work in progress and I'm glad the new president wants to continue the trend of trains and actually wants to build twice as much railways as Obrador did... so its a great time to be in México.
Agreed, I think it's a much better option than another highway for more cars, or more dangerous routes where accidents can happen. I think with time, and the expansion of the network of trains, it will only get better and better. I'm excited to see how it progresses! Thank you for watching! ✌️
@y4v_ I suggest that you make friends who are Mexican or who speak Spanish, so that your learning goes faster and better. Believe me, even for us who speak Spanish, it is not that easy (formally). Greetings from Mexico, everyone is welcome.
Yes, trains are infinitely safer than buses, cars and usually airplanes. Having travelled many thousands of kilometers across Mexico, having the train was a nice alternative. Thanks for watching! ✌️
I'd read about that, and think it's an awesome route for the train. Maybe they can even connect it to the old Eiffel train station in Guanajuato as well! The more trains the better! Thanks for watching! ✌️
@wanderbeard and it seems they learned a lesson from tren maya since they're planning on having the station downtown where the old stations are instead of outside the city like tren maya.
I think it will probably depend on the historical significance too. Merida for example, the train line goes under the city, instead of through the downtown, so maybe that's an option. I didn't mind the stations where they were, as it gave them a chance to really stand out and look unique in each place. But I also understand it makes them more difficult to get to and from, for many people.
Mexico has been amazing over the four months I've been here. So many great places, so much good food, and the most wonderful people I've met anywhere! Gracias por invitarme. ✌
This train has a very strong meaning for most Mexicans, it was a project of former President Lopez Obrador, who proved what can be done by rejecting corruption and allocating those resources into these kind of projects. For many of us, the greatest President Mexico has ever had.
I've heard from a lot of people who both love Obrador and Morena Party, and those that hate them. To me, as an outsider, I think that his party and his leadership (along with Sheinbaum now) are trying to make things better for Mexico and its people. I cannot say for sure as I do not know enough about the political side of things, this is just my opinion. I *will* say that what people in the US/Canada/etc think Mexico is like, is far from the reality. Mexico is a fast growing country with many very good things going for it. And the nicest people I've met anywhere. ✌️
Comment from a train supporter, they created a documentary about the construction of the work, it is on TH-cam and the effort and dedication to fulfill it is impressive.
@@doingtime20Like all parties filled with politicians, u have some that really wanna see their country move forward, and others who are just opportunistic and greedy. That happens in all countries. Either way this train really showcased that Mexico has the skill and will to actually build up their infrastructure, and that's a great thing. Passenger trains will be making a comeback in Mexico, one from Mexico City to the border of Texas and the other through the Pacific to Sonora. People will enjoy traveling and witnessing Mexicos beautiful landscape.

i did Merida to Campeche in October and it was still a work in progress. Will go back as soon as the route to Bacalar is open. The 50% discount to members of INAPAM sure helps.
Yeah, I think what's been accomplished already is amazing, given the short span of time. That route to Bacalar should be open next year sometime, I think? The discounts are great, and that's how all pricing should be, to most benefit those who live the closest, or who are in special categories. Thank you for watching! ✌️
Aún no he viajado por este tren Maya, pronto lo haré; por lo visto todo marcha bien, parece ser muy seguro. Gracias por informar sobre tu trayecto de Palenque a Campeche.
Great review! One thing you should say about the project is that the main reason it was built was to increase the economy in the southern part of Mexico which had been abandoned for decades!
Yeah, there's definitely areas that feel lacking, as I've journeyed all across Mexico. Baja Mexico needs a train from north to south too. That would be amazing for over there as well. Thanks for watching!

The wife and I had just spent 2 weeks in Merida, on our ADO bus ride back to Cancun we got behind an oversized load on the toll rode. There had to be about 5 or 6 truck in the convoy. We rode beside the convoy for about 10 or 15 miles until the convoy pulled over at one of the few plazas to let traffic get around. To our surprise it was an entire Tren Maya train loaded on flatbed trailers going down the toll road. We were pleasantly surprised to see the famous Tren Maya train going down the road.
Ha! How funny is that? I know there was talk of adding more trains to the schedule, as the ones they already have along that route are pretty full. Must have been cool to see! Thanks for watching and commenting! ✌️

There’s no underground portion of the train in Merida, what changes is that between Merida and Cancun the railway is electrified instead of using combustion. The underground was at the very beginning of the project but changed because people didn’t want the train to go into the city, and then they used the land to construct La Plancha park which was a good decision in my opinion.
Oh! Good to know, someone on the train had actually told me that it was underground through there (and I didn't get that far on the train for this journey). Parks and green spaces are always great uses of land too, so that's also great to hear! Thanks for watching! ✌️
anyone using the Maya Train is helping to destroy the local flora and fauna, the cenotes, the trees. see recent English-language articles from the Yucatan Times which provide details. it's sickening what the government is doing, plus they're losing tons of money doing it.
Funny how most people I spoke to, seemed to be really happy with the train service. That they took the time to recover almost 8000 artifacts along the route, shows that at least some care went into the process. And yes, they had to cut down trees. Did you expect them to just plow through them? I don't think it's "sickening", as it's helping a lot of people from poorer communities with new opportunities. It's not meant to be a profitable operation, it's about increasing the transportation options. Way better than building more highways. And since when is it a government's responsibility to be profitable? It's a service to the public. It WILL increase tourism to the area as well.
Looks like the original comment was deleted. Here's what I was replying to: @jimmiller1686 • 19 minutes ago anyone using the Maya Train is helping to destroy the local flora and fauna, the cenotes, the trees. see recent English-language articles from the Yucatan Times which provide details. it's sickening what the government is doing, plus they're losing tons of money doing it.
Yeah, no worries I figured what happened. But people forget that most of the railway already existed so they just made it wider for safety reasons and about the cenotes only one was damaged and when that went to the news the government made the construction company correct the errors not completely but at least they addressed the issue, of course people only believe what they want to believe. And remember this is the same government that rescued the Texcoco lake, so it’s not that they go constructing things without any consideration.

Exactly, the old saying is "Perfect is the enemy of good" and I think this is a very good start. So much more convenient than driving, faster than the bus. For locals and citizens, it's an even better deal. Thanks for watching! ✌️
@@wanderbeard Is it really faster than the bus? That'd be news to me. For me the damage to the caves and underground acquifer is not worth the slight increase in convenience for travel. All of the spots the train 'links' were already linked before by a very efficient road network. Last I checked, All of the ticket prices for the train are way pricier than any bus, kind of cancelling the better deal for locals and citizens. Locals complained they didn't need a train network and on the contrary the construction divided communities, literally splitting them apart. These are all facts, but the conversation around the train has been very very politically charged so it's difficult to approach.
@@wanderbeard there's not WiFi in tourist class, just in premier class. But even sometimes failes like cell phone mobile data. Yes, I think overall it's a very good start, especially with how fast it all happened. It doesn't need to be perfect in my opinion either, I think that if it provides a good service and helps both locals and tourists with another travel option, then it is a success :) Thank you very much for watching, and I'm glad you enjoyed it. Glad to see trains making a resurgence in México! I had the opportunity to take an overnight train from Cancún to Palenque many years ago, in the early 1970s. The cars were beautiful, but a bit run-down, old Pullman cars from the US. My friend and I had individual bunk beds in the sleeper car. It was difficult to sleep as the train tracks were uneven, which made for a rocky ride. The trip took 12 hours. Palenque, by the way, was spectacular.
I'm happy to see new trains too. It's such a nice way to travel. The new tracks for this new train are really smooth. Thanks for watching, hope you check out some of my other videos too! ✌️

Mexico's been awesome! Traveled all across this country, only to find nothing but great people, fascinating history, great cities and delicious food! What's not to like! :)
@@wanderbeard That's so cool dude lol heck yeah! So, it's just because here in the U.S.A. citizens are, almost unconsciously, convinced by government or I'm not sure how to put that, but that traveling outside of the U.S.A is "bad" m'kay and you "lose all your american rights" m' kay...and that is so discouraging. I got buddies that would never travel to México or anywhere, man they don't know what they're missing out on. Even if it's not México. You got to travel to gain empathy for people and I'm sure it's made you a happier person to discover what's beyond the U.S.A. TAKE CARE!
@@El-Serg-Marihuanazo4T It's the same in Canada for me as well. Lots of people who think the rest of the world is a death trap or something. Traveling heals the soul and widens your perspective. Did you go to Bacalár and Tulúm in Quintana Roo? Bacalár has a fortress dude and it was how the Mayans defended themselves from the invading pirates it's Soo sick lol. Tulum has many Ruins along de cliff above the shoreline.
There's other trains in other parts of the country already, but this feels like the first one for Mexico with a unified vision and plan. It's certainly a great way to get around and see the country. Thanks for watching!

Wonderful review and honest comments; just to add a couple of observations: Before there was a railway system between Yucatan state and all the way up to Mexico City; from Merida, service was provided to 8 different cities in the state and at some point it was useless; before former President Obrador, the project was to link Merida to Cancun with a high speed train line but was never built. And the other observation, there are no underground sections in Merida and the stations are in the outskirts of city, one close to the Int'l airport MID (Merida Uman) and the other one on the freeway that goes to Cancun (Merida Teya); both conveniently located; it will take some time to stabilize and as you perfectly explained, it was inaugurated without being completely finished; Merida-Cancun is a two way track so more possibilities with schedules, both cargo and passengers. Thank you for your honest review!!
Thank you for watching, and I'm glad you enjoyed it! Yes, I'd read that there used to be a train service before, and I think it was smart to re-use some of the same stretches where tracks used to be before.
@ Yes, they are planning other lines throughout central and northern Mexico.
Great information ! 👌👏👏👏👏🇲🇽🚆A
That figures. It's what happen with a subway system that used to be in the Los Angeles area decades ago. GM, a tire company, oil company and another big company company or two had bought the subway system. They wanted to shut it down which they did. To promote car usage.
hard to understand if this was a negative or positive comment.

i had a situation where the train actually got 5 minutes under the time they said we would arrive... its still a work in progress and I'm glad the new president wants to continue the trend of trains and actually wants to build twice as much railways as Obrador did... so its a great time to be in México.
Agreed, I think it's a much better option than another highway for more cars, or more dangerous routes where accidents can happen. I think with time, and the expansion of the network of trains, it will only get better and better. I'm excited to see how it progresses! Thank you for watching! ✌️

You said something almost nobody says about trains: they are really safe, and one train equals hundreds of accidents less in the road. Nice video!
Yes, trains are infinitely safer than buses, cars and usually airplanes. Having travelled many thousands of kilometers across Mexico, having the train was a nice alternative. Thanks for watching! ✌️
Very nice they announced a new train line from Mexico city-queretaro-guadalara next. And its starting construction april 2025
Train line under Merida? Where?
It was moved outside the city in the end. The original plans were for it to be underground, but my information was old. :)
Welcome to México...i hope you enjoy it.....saludos desde xalapa Veracruz

@@wanderbeardplease go back to US please from Mexico
I will check out the documentary for sure! Thanks!
Rejecting corruption 😂 oh god my belly could hurt laughing at that. Morena is at least as corrupt as PRI. Building a train doesn't change that fact.

While not perfect, this line shows the government is willing to invest in passenger lines. Here's hoping the plans for more lines go through.
WHICH TRAINS ARE PERFECT???????? THAT´S NONSENSE!!!!

And I hope through my (many many) videos from Mexico, I manage to show at least some people that Mexico is amazing!
Did you go to Bacalár and Tulúm in Quintana Roo? Bacalár has a fortress dude and it was how the Mayans defended themselves from the invading pirates it's Soo sick lol. Tulum has many Ruins along de cliff above the shoreline.
@@wanderbeard assuming you have, what parts of Jalisco of you been to?
Great video thank you for sharing with us;;
@@rafaelhernandez6125 thank you for watching! Glad you enjoyed it! ✌️
Having a train is a game changer for the country.
There's other trains in other parts of the country already, but this feels like the first one for Mexico with a unified vision and plan. It's certainly a great way to get around and see the country. Thanks for watching!
@wanderbeard Yes. But the speed and regions the train covers will help boost the economy. People will be able to get resources like never before. People will be able to travel to work and many things that come with transportation. And yes, it will boost tourism revenues
@@mystictraveler8642 Agreed on all of those points! :)
Gracias por visitar México

I'm a big fan of trains in general, I think they're a great way to move people around, and are way underutilized in North America.
Thanks again, I hope you check out some other videos as well! ✌️
welcome to Mexico, sir. hope you enjoy it.

Wow wow what a great expérience You had during thé first time…….. I wish I could do it myself…… you are lucky🎉🎉🎉.
I live at the northern part of Mexico, sonora. So for me is very difficult to go all the way down there. I congratulate you and I wish to see more videos in you channel.
By the way, I’m Mexican and you have a great talent and patience to explain in detail about the tren maya. I already subscribed to this great channel. See ya’Later.

I would love to do another tour through Northern Mexico sometime in the future. It was a large area that I didn't explore much of, instead visiting Baja California instead (you can see all my videos from there as well on my channel).
Thanks for watching! ✌️

63k views and counting! Excellent work Mr Beard! 😁
Now my top video on my channel, and I'm kind of blown away. Never expected to get this kind of attention on a silly train video. 😂
@wanderbeard it's a trending topic I guess! Makes sense given the debate it's caused. Hopefully it'll surpass 100k!
@@rubiocitywalks If it passes 100k, I may have to throw myself a little celebration. It's already my most viewed video now :)
Incredible work engineering 1,500 kilometers of new rail in just four years.

Hello! Thank you for watching! I think I drove through Corona when I was returning from Palm Springs to Los Angeles during my travels in California. I have a bunch of videos from California if you are interested.

Nice I gotta check this out, so clean
Was the best train experience I've had since I was in Japan 20 years ago :)
Thank you for sharing your vacation trip i will be there in January my self so GOD bless you Amigo hi from San Diego California 👋
I was in San Diego back in July, and have a video on my channel from there. I walked over to Tijuana from just south of SD (took the Blue Line to the border) and have been in Mexico since. You will have an awesome time on your vacation!
thank you for your unbiased video 👍
Thank you for watching, I am glad you enjoyed it. I try to be as fair as possible using the public information I can find. ✌️
I hope they continue to build the train system. As a Mex that left for better jobs in USA I really want to see my home country succeed
I think Mexico is incredible, and growing very rapidly. If you watch my first video from Mazatlan, you will see the crazy amount of construction happening there. It was just one example of the growth that's happening everywhere! Thank you for watching!
