    What's your favorite part of the process?

    • @JoshuaKrell
      @JoshuaKrell 4 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      My favorite part is getting my overheads set perfectly to capture the perfect image of the kit. I find that if I do that, I have to less on each of my close mics.

      man, the neve suming makes it sound great!
      Does it put any compression on the master bus?

      what's the cost to record favor a song?

    • @HR2635
      @HR2635 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      the summing plugin.. by far the best part. Although it should be free with Luna. I use a similar plugin in Reaper (Sumthing by Tukan) and its just as great and makes evrything sound better.. especially drums. Actually Luna is quite cool.. its very much like Reaper.. a little more restricted and polished, but it does have some of the advantages.

    Awesome, lots of good stuff in here, thanks :)
    Comparison:
    Without ANY processing: 14:08
    With EQ/Comp: 17:53
    With Tape: 18:54
    With Neve Summing: 20:08
    With Decapitator: 21:01
    With Ocean Way: 21:31
    Whole kit with Decapitator on Kit mic: 22:36
    With Ampex on mixbus: 23:17

    I love the UAD Distressor plugin. I use it a lot on drums. That in conjunction with some eq and tsr reverb to make it sound a bit bigger. Most people that hear my drums think it was recorded in a large room. I have a similar setup, smallish room where i had to essentially kill and control the room with sound treatment. Amazing what plugins and some good mic placement can do these days.

    I had to make a choice. a hard choice. Between the 1073 and the 1084 during the sale. I went with the 1084 as it seemed to have a more modern sound. Did you pick it up as well? How do you find they compare?

    I'd like to hear the comleted mix with all instruments. As it is now, the cymbals sound too loud and abrasive, but I'm almost sure some of that would get eaten up by other instruments and further corrective processing. I never mix drums without all the other instruments but I do understand the reasons you did in this vid. Keep it coming. Cheers.

    Hi, Andrew thanks for the video love it...my humble opinion, even if you ad all the nice bells and whistles something I notice is your kick drum always sounds far away even if you juice up the drum sound. I am just asking do you think if one places the kick mic closer especially the inside mic to get a better attack... you will automatically get a much better presence? Listen to your video and for instance, compare your normal vocals with your drum sound. I am a big fan that sound must sit close .....the presence for me personally is very important that the sound does not disappear in the back......am I wrong or are there some truth to that. Just asking please help. Thanks Andrew great video

  • @manuellujan5625
    @manuellujan5625 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    Great video man I watch every single video you post since I just started my home studio. In my genre I'm a known musician BUT I suck at recording lol! (Learning) but that said thanks to my rep as a musician I have been getting alot of work already for my home studio. So I need to get this down right and thanks to you im learning quite a bit brotha.
    Quick question! I have been talking to some clients about the necessity of a actual studio vs a home studio. What would the difference be if my home studio is treated and has great gear? My point is that you can get the same great result at the end if the mix engineer is good it doesn't matter where you record as long as the performance is good, acoustics are good and the mix engineer is good. What is your insight on this since you have more experience in the home studio world?

    • @AndrewMasters
      @AndrewMasters  4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      There are a lot of differences between home studios and commercial studios. Especially as every studio is completely difference. I’m a believer that the tracking engineer and the producer play the biggest and most essential part of the process. Learning and doing is the best no matter what role you’re playing.

    Hey Andrew, I took Spanish lessons as well, and a... Spanish for "two" is pronounced such as "tho-os" vs trying to pronounce "dos" as if trying to say "dough". Just saying... Otherwise good recommendations on micing a small kit for rock-type tunes. Thanks!

    Great sound , I realise your studio build was more about building an excellent sounding room for recording and mixing and not soundproofing but out of interest how loud are those drums outside your house? Great video

    • @AndrewMasters
      @AndrewMasters  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks man. It's that loud, but it's by no means sound proof. If you're in the driveway - you can unmistakably hear them.

  • @thomaswhudson
    @thomaswhudson 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    I would love to see you get a Clarett 8 pre or something like that and compare it to the UA. I know you compared the Scarlett but that is kinda unfair imo. I have really been torn on spending the money on the UA, but if i could find comparison that showed the UA are that much better.

    • @AndrewMasters
      @AndrewMasters  4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      If I get my hands on one, i'll happily shoot it out. Better is better! I personally think the UA ecosystem is the best. The ARM, LUNA, Unison technology, Console, UAD plugs, expandability, hardware/software processing and routing is unparalleled. I'm investing in it for my new studio as I gear up, and it is wayyyy better. For me. haha

    • @thomaswhudson
      @thomaswhudson 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@AndrewMasters i mean i get it, but man that price!! i have 16 tracks of Clarett and its awesome but i mean, i am just wondering if that UA is just worth 3x the price. Your drums sound great. I would be happy to send you what i get from mine and we can compare. That would be a great colab. Infact we just put out a EP and it should hit spotify on friday. The Oort Patrol. Check it out.
