@@TheReelDealFilms Exactly. I like Man of Steel, but I want Cavill in a Suprrman movie that isn't an origin, and where he's allowed to act like Superman
We got some Superman in BVS but I still want Cavill back because I thought he was awesome. I hope we’ll see him a good bit more in the Snyder cut. I think he deserves more then what we got.
One of the reasons why Cavill’s Superman is what it is, is precisely because people were saying they were tired of the “wholesome” Superman. So, lets go serious/dark. Now, people hate that and are longing for the wholesome Superman.
The general public may not like or care about the Snyder Superman movies, but you don't get the Snyder Cut if you don't have a population of people who LOVE Henry Cavil Superman.
Next weeks podcast, Greg pitches his ideal Superman and/or DC universe. Week after that, Tim and Kevin pitch their ideal Spider-Man and/or Marvel universe. Week after that, Nick pitches his ideal Terminator universe.
Why are they trying to make stories about a superman that isn't Superman? That CW series is taking some risks but still keeping true to the character, which is why the reaction has been generally positive.
Honestly, if you want to make a good superman? Look at the Paddington movies who is essentially a good character that doesn't change. He is wholesome and kind and he changes everyone around him. I feel like that's how superman should be. A good guy that just gives people hope
Robert Pattinson didn’t replace Affleck, so perhaps this one won’t replace Cavill. The more Superman, the better! Would love to see him be a totally different character like Val Zod!
Zack Snyder makes Zack Snyder movies, blame should mostly be on the people responsible for the decisions that had Zack jump starting the DCU in the way that he did in the first place, as well as whoever hired him and the other directors, in other words the DCU fiasco is on the producer's shoulders. (Producers are the real driving force behind any production, that's why when a film wins best picture, the producer receives the award, think Kevin Feige who gets most of the credit for the MCU) I personally like Snyder's directing in general and I know he has a pretty solid fan base that likes it as well, but the DCU's pacing and priorities were a mess from pretty much the get go, and many movies in the DCU that Snyder didn't direct have been mediocre at best compared to MCUs. The core issues are not on Snyder I don't think.
I really think the idea of WB having a connected movie universe and then standalone elseworlds movies is a great way to be different from the MCU and be able to tell really cool stories like Val-Zod Superman
Superman can be any color but Clark Kent is a white man from Kansas it’s part of his identity I would love for them to go the Miles Morales way now that can be special
I don’t have anything against this new Superman movie. In fact, I believe that a reboot is the right way to go. The further away we get from Snyder and Super Murderer the better. I just think it’s unfortunate that we never really got a good, modern movie about normal Prime Earth Superman. I mean, don’t get me wrong the Donner movies are great, but they’re a bit dated in some regards. Superman never got the Nolan treatment (I’m not talking in terms of tone, more so in terms of quality and faithfulness to the source material). But if going with this alternate Superman is the only way they feel like they can tell a Superman story that is faithful to that character’s tone and morals, I’m game.
Greg, would love to know any more thoughts you have on the CW Superman and Lois show? I'm confused on the premise of the series having not watched the first episode yet. Clark and Lois appear to have two 15-ish year old sons, which would place Clark at about 40 years old here from the shows start, assuming they met at like 21, dated a couple of years and got pregnant and had them by 24/25. So Superman would be well into his prime, be completely battle hardened as Superman and have nothing left to learn, new to explore at this point as the character. He would have been Superman in the world for a good 18-ish years so the world knows him in and out, he'd have overcome all the trials and tribulations set out, I don't see any in-world reasoning to have that character have any new arcs. There looks to be a focus on relationships, but Lois and Clark again would have been together for so long at this point they're well passed any trials and tribulations in their own relationship, so really only leaves the two kids, especially as, I gather they killed Martha immediately and general Lane is cool with Clark/Superman. With the kids, I can only fear that the struggle of developing their powers and the whole parent/child 'let me use my powers' thing could easily turn annoying and whiny very quickly. They look to already be categorised in the stereotypical "this kid's the cool one, this one's the awkward one" roles which we've all seen a million times before play out. The awkward one will discover great strength, the cool one will have to learn humility and emotionally grow. Knowing the CW, I really fear by episode 50 of a show like this it'll be a complete mess.
My last car was a MINI Cooper and I was surprised that there is, in fact, a MINI wave. But only for the classic Cooper body style, no waves for the long MINIs.

Regarding the kids not knowing their dad is Superman in S&L...I chalked that up to kids thinking their parents are lame and therefore the thought never crossed their mind that their dad could be Superman.
He's supposed to be a beacon of hope for humanity. There's a reason he's called the Big Blue Boyscout. It's not that he's always happy, but instead he places the burden on himself to smile through tragedy to inspire others. People aren't going to look to a dour man for hope. It's not that Superman can't be sad or mopey, but that is not the character of Superman that Clark Kent portrays. But for some reason sad superman is what they've been going with in the movies for awhile now.

I don't mind having an OP Superman but if so, he needs to be put in situations where his powers are useless. Being in two places at the same time is overused but effective. Say choosing between Pa Kent drowning or CPR on a kid. If he stops CPR, kid dies or if he continues CPR, Pa Kent drowns. There's a page in All-star Superman where someone's about to commit suicide by jumping of a building and they can expound on how he dealt with it. He may not solve depression but at least we see him in vulnerable human situations. I guess my point is I want a relatable Superman even if he is overpowered.
I don’t think it would go over well if the black Superman was weaker than his white counterparts. I’d love a slightly depowered Superman in general but the optics of that would be iffy.
The fact that JJ is associated with this is why I don't have high hopes. Yes, he's a producer, but he's still invovled. Love everything else about it. F*ck JJ Abrams.
Not excited for a JJ Abrams take on Superman. It'll just be empty callbacks to Christopher Reeves. Making superman a "normal guy" totally missed the point of the character. He's not a normal guy. He's an alien.
I honestly couldn’t disagree more. The interesting dichotomy of Superman is that he wants to be a “normal guy”, but he’s burdened by being an all-powerful alien. That internal struggle is at the core of his character and what makes him and his stories inherently interesting. To strip that away and just made him a badass alien is lazy and doesn’t make for compelling storytelling.
@@kyledion1346 I'm saying that exact thing just the other way. Wanting to see superman just be normal robs him of that dichotomy. People want him to be "a normal guy with powers" but that's not Superman. He needs both. Man of Steel had the best balance.

My guess is that someone told Snyder that his references from BvS and Man of Steel were going way over people's heads (yes, despite many of them being obvious the amount of less obvious references and motifs in those movies is a lot) and so they all just said "fuck it lets spoon feed these references to the audience"... sucks and in my opinion the only thing that could save the DCU is a hard reboot :/

The idea of a black Superman has me so interested and excited. The character struggling with being a literal alien and alienation from certain humans based on his appearance could lead to some amazing storytelling. The obvious question would be, ultimately, what makes him fight for good? When he has every reason to use his powers out of anger.
