      Thanks brother much appreciated. I would say the XR13 has a better quality bass that carries more weight with it. When it comes to shear SPL numbers, it won't beat the X15. The X15 has a larger driver and is ported, so SPL numbers will be an easy win for the X15. That being said, the XR13 is only for those that want a beautiful subwoofer, that has quality bass, but they don't prioritize max output over all else.

    • @SpecOfTech
      @SpecOfTech  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I am sure you are aware, but it's worth pointing out that they are 2 very different subwoofers. The X15 is ported and the XR13 is sealed. The quality of bass is much better on the XR13, it's more nuanced with a more dense/thicker presentation. The X15 will have more peak output given the fact that it's ported, but overall the quality of bass isn't as good. The X15 still have a nice sharp kick to them, but they lack the authoritative weight that the XR13 can provide with that kick.

    • @SpecOfTech
      @SpecOfTech  ปีที่แล้ว

      I have done some videos on the ported vs sealed thing on my channel. It really depends on your preferences. There are high end subs that are ported as well. In my opinion manufacturers like Paradigm usually make their top end subwoofers sealed because of sizing. To get great low end performance on a ported subwoofer, the cabinet needs to be quite large. Most people with high budgets don't want something big and bulky in their set up, at least the ones that I have talked to. They would rather pay a premium for a good looking, much smaller sealed subwoofer. That being said, sealed subwoofers do leave performance on the table to achieve their small size.

    Great video, thanks, I was waiting for your review. I have Founder 100f and 90C. My subs are Paradigm SW1000. My subs look great and pass the wife test. Do you think the X-13 would be a major upgrade or more of a sideways move. The SW 1000 are 12" drivers. I found that the bass is so good in the F100's that I listen to 2 channel now without the subs. If I had the X-13 it would only be for home theater. I have the AVM90 and I turned off signal processing as I have a high end Streamer with DAC, Lumin T2 with analog connection which sounds better than converting to digital and using the 90 DAC. Even if the X-13 is better for two channel I don't think I could use as turning off signal processing kills the subs, thanks

      The 1000sw is a great subwoofer, BUT it is completely flawed by having a harsh subsonic filter at 22hz (30db/Oct), this causes phasing issues further up the spectrum making it impossible to blend with mains running at full range. If you use a Crossover on your speakers/sub you might be ok.

    Hey, can you give me a little explanation on the compression tests you do.
    For example. You label is avr at -20db volume.
    So is that when 0 db is actually 85db of pink subwoofer noise measured with a SPL meter at C weighting slow.
    So, if a subwoofer is beginning to compression so much at like -17 db on the volume, bur reference level watching is supposed to be 0 db, there's no way any of these subs can handle a reference level sound, if they begin to tap out at -17.
    Reference is way too loud for me, I usually just watch at between -15db to -20db, but with a +6 db harman applied. So I would think the sub is actually trying to play at -10db, but if it compresses that heavily by -17, no way it is accurate bass, right?

    • @SpecOfTech
      @SpecOfTech  ปีที่แล้ว

      I wouldn't pay much attention to the volume I am using on my AVR. You want to pay more attention the DB measured in the REW graph. Depending on the AVR/Processor, your volume would most likely be different than mine. It's the DB on the graph that matters. Keep in mind that compression just shows that it is compressing, it could still have more peak output based on CEA-2010 numbers, but unfortunately I am not setup to measure that. We also have to keep in mind that these measurements were at my listening position and everybody's MLP would be different distances from the subwoofer. The closer you are the louder and the further the more quiet. Lastly, for some reason the AVM90 did display the reference scale of volume, but it actually played MUCH louder than the reference scale. If I were ever to turn my volume up to 0 db it would be far too loud and probably blow all my equipment. I would say reference on my setup with the AVM90 is closer to -17DB or so...just a guess based on how loud it is.

      Paradigm has its sights set firmly on JL audio with this new line.

      If you have the founders and are battling space constraints and aesthetic concerns in a common area, this sub makes total sense.
      Most wives and girlfriends aren't enthused with dual 15" DIY cabinet aesthetics in their living areas.

    While I respect your channel I don't think pumping out ridiculous SPL's on a subwoofer interests me,a subwoofer should be designed to blend and augment bass frequency not for what your intentions are,but nothing personal.

      He didn’t state his intentions in the video, so don’t assume. That said, output and headroom are important for good quality bass reproduction. The closer you push a sub toward its upper limits, the more distortion is introduced and bass quality suffers. It’s not about ridiculous SPL’s, it’s about headroom.

      I merely reviewed the subwoofer and gave the best use cases, in my opinion. This subwoofer IS NOT about ridiculous SPL's, I did make that quite clear in the video. Thanks for watching.

    Paradigm always seems to price themselves out of consideration. Three REL 1510's for about the same price

    Would never pay the price for this woofer. Sure it looks nice but anyone can watch tutorial videos on TH-cam to make an uglier woofer more aesthetically pleasing.

      The looks are kinda hard to ignore though😅😅....they really have outdone themselves here.
      I think I would still lean just a tad towards the sub 2 as a Paradigm buyer.

      @@rickmorty5215 I also like Paradigm and own many sets of their speakers throughout the years but these Subs unless you have an acoustically transparent screen or have them tucked away in the corners in your home theater are too glossy and would have so much reflection off the finish.

    Such state of the art equipment deserves better than the likes of Billie Eilish.

      Her music is bass heavy and great for testing subwoofers 😉.
