Im a new 19 year old rider. I purchased this bike 2002 650 vstar classic black (looks like this bike but with saddle bags) with 4k miles 1 owner and only paid 2k body and paint and chrome are mint condition . im glad i have this bike as my first bike!
Hey Rage Deluxe and Michael Barnes, welcome to the sport of motorcycle riding! You both picked a great bike to start with. It's easy to ride and does everything well, your going to really enjoy the 650. It was Cycle Worlds motorcycle of the year when it came out in 1998. I bought mine in 2000 and even though I own 5 bikes, I find myself taking the 650 most of the time because it's so much fun to ride, and that is what it's all about! So good luck have fun and wear gear. Btw, a little carb work and Vance & Hines short shots wake it up pretty good, sounds great too.
@@noahgeo5192 Did you get one? I got a Vstar Custom 650 for my first bike and it handles 75mph no problems. I bet it could get up to 80+ easily but doesn't have a 6th gear so it sounds a little loud at those speeds
Bought mine about 5 years ago for 2 grand. Every thing the same except mine had the factory bags and passenger backrest. I think it only had about 6K miles when I bought it (little more than double that now). Also have spent about $2000 on mods and maintenance since then (tires, pipes, paint, body work and a lot more). There are some known electrical issues on these bikes around those years. But they are relatively easy and inexpensive to correct (pickup coil being the most annoying). Part of me wishes I had kept it stocked, rode it for a couple of years and sold it for what I paid for it. BUT the bike looks exactly the way I want it and rides really good.
A fantastic bike. That is a beautiful bike ! The 650 is light enough for beginners but big and powerful enough for it to be a keeper. I own a '98 V-Star 650 with 22,000 miles and there is not one thing about it that isn't as good as new (mechanically). And cosmetically she's an 8. Not bad for a gal rode hard and put away wet. I LOVE my V-star ! P S, I wish I caught this video earlier. I would have loved to come up for the museum opening. However, I will make it an Autumn ride.
The weight is kind of scary until you ride a smaller bike on a beginner course then try to do slow maneuvers on it. Id give it at least a week of parking lot riding before you can feel comfortable on this bike (as a brand new rider)
I had one. Was my second bike. My other is a Harley Davidson. But this 650 was a very good riding motorcycle. I rode mine to the Harley 100 in Milwaukee in 2003.
I like your style. I'm 6'2" so I'm glad you mentioned it. I know it's sold long time ago, but I'm looking at a 2003 Classic just like that one with 22k on it.
@Garth D'Andraia he didn't say they were rare. Like most of his stuff, its low mileage. How many Yamaha street bikes can you find for sale with less then 2,000 miles that are a fraction of there retail price? It's in excellent condition, and people will pay high for things in excellent condition.
Okay? And theyve made them for 22 years cause plenty of people like them. Just cause you don't care for v stars doesnt mean it's not rare to see a low mileage bike. It's not a shit bike and I guarantee you someone has bought it, cause its no longer on his Ebay page. Obviously people like the v stars, and some people appreciate low mileage motorcycles for a low price compared to new. What's so hard to understand? So what if its "just a v star", you could use that argument for most bikes in general, as most bikes are fairly common. And if you can't appreciate a low mileage bike with some history then you're the one who doesn't get it
@Garth D'Andraia you dont know jack. just shows your ignorance. The original comment was about the age of the tires, not the model of the bike in the video, which YOU clicked and decided too shit on. The guy in the video didn't act like it was rare, but it is rare to see a 18 year old bike with less then 2,000 miles. so your bullshit comments dont hold any value. Doesn't matter if the bike is a xr250 or a super cub, if there's millions of them made or how much power it has, theres people out there that are looking for just this bike, a yamaha 650 cruiser, with low miles.

That is correct. 4-5 years the most under normal use and i believe manufacturers really try to get rid of them from their inventory aftet 6 years as anymore would reduce the use for the end customer.
same is true for most of the O rings on the engine. if it was being used, and filters were being replaced and valves adjusted, they would have been replaced. buying an older bike with very few miles has its own set of issues that you would not expect. Tires over 6 years old skid like they are made of chalk.
@Mark Andrews if it's been well maintained and runs good then it should be a great deal, these bikes have bullet proof engines, with 2900$ I bet you could find an 1100cc if you look in the right places
