Great job Sara. Yes it’s quite a job cleaning the fat away from the meat. That second chunk of fat you held up and said yuk, what’s that. It looked like a gland. Those are the things I dislike when butchering. Hahaah. Take care friend,🌷🇨🇦
@@lynsmith2698 Thank you! I had no idea what that was. Your thought of a gland makes sense. It was gelatinous but I didn’t mess with it too much. Rendering fat into tallow has been quite the experience. 😊🌻
Thanks so much! No, we don’t raise our own beef. We purchase a half beef share from a local rancher. This was definitely a new learning experience for me. Give it a try! Cooking oil/fat is so expensive. I’d rather render my own.
I remember my mother doing this same thing with beef. She always rendered pork fat into lard. Sadly, not many do this today and to me it’s a huge waist.
It sounds like you have some wonderful memories. I’ve had to learn things as I go. We were city kids growing up and these skills didn’t exist in my home. It is my firm belief that if an animal is going to give its life to sustain us, then we should honor that by using the entire animal.
thanks for the kind words. My 7 siblings and I had to help out and we were taught at an early age. Farm life for me was always great, along with the responsibilities. And learning was fun. There was very little that wasn’t used when it came to butchering. You’re so right about this.

Definitely something I'd like to try one day. Was this from a steer you raised? Great video! I can't believe it turns so white.
