  • HOW TO FILM BEER. I'll teach you product lighting on beer bottles and how you can become a master of it in this simple beer commercial tutorial.
    Filming beer is fun and involves lots of little tricks that help make that beer looking cool and tasty. Watch and you'll find out.

    Last shot was reversed. I think you nailed that shot by reversing it, but bubbles are going down at this point (still good choice reversing it). I liked everything you did

      Thank You! We used the Sony A7III on this shoot, settings either 25fps 1/50, or 100fps 1/100.

      @@slambk You don't need a RED. Sure, they're amazing cameras, but you can do all this with a Sony A7III, absolutely no problems. It's all about lighting and being consequential (cinematographically) to your script. If it needs running, run. If it needs smooth motion use a slider. If it needs slow movement use a gimbal. You'll be fine, just go out and create!

      Thanks! I basically type in what comes to mind, beer, pour, water, drip, liquid, stuff like that until I get what I need. Sometimes I contrast it to have fun and choose a completely different sfx to freak things out.

    A better trick than salt would be to stir it with a chopstick or some other type of porous wood. Works much better and looks more natural!

      @@PhillipSkraba Hahaha agreed! I actually take photos of beer for a living and the chopstick method is the best I've tried so far but it can get real foamy real quick so be careful to not overflow it!! (unless that's the goal!)

      Thank you! Oh yes! That is no doubt my goto slider and I absolutely love it and swear by it! It has never let me down, it's solid as a rock and very, very smooth.

    I'm assuming all this beer didn't go to waste afterwards? 😂 Maybe it would be better to pour something other than beer to avoid excessive head? Like mix it half-and-half with apple juice or something similar. Great tutorial btw.

      Thank You! Most of the shots were filmed very slowly as you can see, and focus was set to AF, so it kept focus really well and turned out super smooth when sped up a little.

    What clamps are you using to hold your diffusers?

      Back then actually none, I just hung them off the light stands and the one on the left I just used two normal spring clamps to hold them to a boom arm. I have since this film bought actual diffuser clamps from Neewer which work a lot better! They make spring clamp holders for light stands, holder boom arms with clamps and disc holder clips for light stands too, so that works and is much more controllable!

      It's clear, but it sucks. Since this tutorial, I got myself some glass cut in black, white and clear.

      Well, if you start it off too fast on a macro. That shot could of had a much slower ramp, and it could have generally be a lot slower, and you'd have a much smoother shot, one you can speed up in post and no one will be the wiser. Fast ramps on long lenses are usually a good recipe for jerk movements.

      @@PhillipSkraba 100 2.8. It seems that the speed is really constant from left to right but no constant when I do it from right to left.
