    I trained as a nurse there in 1971 to 1974, it was a lovely hospital to work in. Pity it is no more, it is sad to see these lovely old buildings demolished, the Hallamshire is an ugly eyesore.

    My late Mother worked there from around 1937 until 1959.During the second world war she told me there was no chance of spare parts for the three German x-ray machines that they had there. By the end of the war, they still had one machine working after borrowing parts from the others! Some of the food offerings in the staff canteen during the war years sounder less than appitising.....such as roast udder. This is an era where consultants swanned round in bow ties virtually unapproachable. I don't know if hospitals still have some silly chain of command, but they certainly did when Mother was there!

      My aunt Jean lived in she said the Nurses drank out of jam jars and for the food was awful

    My aunt Jean Williamson began work there in 1944 She became a Theater Nurse
