      Agreed! Greg is just always so calm and laid back, but yet very informative and thorough. It was a joy talking to him last year at the NWTF Convention, and he is just the same in person as in these videos.

    Turkey season helps fill the gap between deer seasons. Finding shells may be interesting this year. Hopefully most still have shells from last year. You don't have to have turkey shells to turkey hunt. I have killed several with high brass 2 3/4. Worked just fine. Cheaper and less recoil too. Also switched from #6 to #4's and never looked back.

    • @Fro_theHunter
      @Fro_theHunter 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Luckily I already have turkey shells and my local shop has a boat load. Absolutely nothing else but turkey shells.

    Great video. So much action you couldn’t even sneak a nap in. I agree it’s best to wait them out, when the Tom has responded and knows your location. It may take hours, but if they have not found their own hen, they will eventually come in to investigate. This gets me pumped for spring turkey season!

  • @TNOutdoorsFanatic

    Love these videos with Greg self filming. He is just so calm, talks you through what is happening, and takes the time to make it educational. I love all the THP videos, but I tend to find myself liking the Greg videos even more. Maybe it is because we are the same age and personality type. It was such a joy talking with him last year at the NWTF Convention, and he is just the same in person as on these videos. Keep them coming! We are getting pretty pumped around here to get our 2021 Turkey Journal series kicked off!

    Patients. That is the key to successful turkey hunting( most of the time ). I dont inow how many times i have tried to move on a bird, relocate, only to hear him gobble from exactly where i just moved from. I just tend to be a more aggressive turkey hunter and it does pay off (sometimes). However, i think my odds of success would be greater if i were just a little more patient.

    I’ve got an H&R Single-shot 12 gauge, 3” chamber & full factory choke with a 1 1/2 pad on the stock. It hurts to shoot on both ends but it will reach out & touch’em. In fact, you can’t let them get too close else you’ll miss. I missed a good turkey once at 7 yards. Wad & shot passed under his chin and the shock wave rolled him over. He got to his feet, took two steps & pitched off the ridge never to be seen again. Almost made me cry watching him soar over the trees and out of sight. Still a good hunt and we both got a valuable education.

    I made a 60 yard shot last year with that exact ammo. I'm a bit ashamed to admit that cuz I totally could have wounded or completely missed that bird BUT I smoked him! His hens moved away so I thought now or never. I was looking thru a red dot and how far away he was never crossed my mind. Chased that bird for 4 days and made it happen by getting in early and close. I never called that morning. It was an awesome morning for not getting a bird in 9 years

    • @TheHuntingPublic
      @TheHuntingPublic  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Woodhaven Ninja Hammer mouth call.
      I use the biggest broadheads I can find for turkeys. I have used expandable 3 blade heads that are at least 2" cutting diameter (ideally 2.25" or bigger), or 2 blade expandables that are a minimum of 2.5" cutting diameter. Rocket, Rage, Dead Ringer, Grim Reaper to name a few. The very best turkey broadhead I ever shot was the Rocket Turkey Tom-O-Hawk. 3 blade, 2.75" cut...never lost a turkey with that broadhead. They are discontinued and almost impossible to find now days. Good luck!
