del monte pineapples in Asia are all from the Philippines. The plantation is near Cagayan de Oro. It is huge I think over 4000 hectares. Over 60% of all canned pineapples sold in APAC are from there. There are many different breeds of pineapple and the ones in the video is different from canned ones. The plantation has lots of history and a nice golf course where many Koreans training to be professional

Is it possible you got that info from the del monte company?
I think a lot of countries in Asia grow sufficiently large quantities for their own consumption and have spare to export.
Good info about the variety of pineapple. Most of my western friends have only tasted the canned variety.
Same goes for Mango, for which Philippines is also a large supplier.
Some (newer?) type of pineapple are going in the direction of peach or mango taste wise. (less pungent and sweeter)

No, what you said selling in smaller parts means individual packs .. it's one portion with the meal cos it's not for everyone able to eat 1 pinnaple in 1 go .. pinnaple is not banana size, or apple or plum .. even people only eat 1 apple at 1 go ...
The whole size is for household in the house consumption .. the rest can be put back in the refrigerator or eat in 1 go with several/whole family member
The individual packs is for people on the go to bring as snack or person who is living alone cos buying the whole pack might be a waste/unable to finish it

Coring the pineapples was started when pineapples that don't look good or dead leaves that would never sell as a fresh pineapple, so they cut off the bad parts. The rings are when they have to cut off rot, and add rings from other pineapples to get a full pineapple. The chunks are when the rings break or they cut away rot and don't have a full ring.Tid dits are the waste product of cutting the rings.
