Regarding majors: Many moons ago at orientation, The Chancellor at my University asked the parents in the arena to raise their hand if they were in the same field that they graduated in. Awesome. I actually knew what I wanted to do when I started college, BUT that’s because I had already worked in the field while I was in the Navy (clinical laboratory science). My advice is to ask a lot of people a lot of questions about careers, what they do, what’s involved to get that career, etc. My career started with my asking my military advisor if there was a job that involved using microscopes. Seriously. One simple question led the way. My daughter is thinking of going to FSU. (It’s currently her top choice and she was accepted). I hope she bumps into you on campus, because I think you would brighten anyone’s day. Keep on!
P.S. I wanted to add, don’t be afraid to show up at a business, hospital, law office, etc. Ask people questions, ask to shadow them, apply for a low end job or even an unrelated job at that workplace, just to have proximity to people to network with. I teach students from Highschool age to Medical Residents, about my job and I really enjoy it, as long as they show interest, ask questions and are willing to work. There’s an extreme shortage in my field (bio and chem majors, I’m looking at you!). It also branches into laboratory information systems and biomedical engineering. Hint, hint. ;-).
That is amazing advice, and I love how one simple question paved the way for such great things to come! I hope to see your daughter around campus soon and if you ever have any questions on the whole admission process feel free to reach out!! :)
that “i don’t wanna do calculus anymore” hit a little too hard. i’ve been a good student in my accounting classes and understand it very well but passing calculus is necessary for my degree and it’s a big challenge for me. anyone else relate?
I am glad I watched this and I wasn’t the only one But with me I am doing multitasking a lot I work on graphic designing and speech pathology major and also night university English major ( also I am Algerian so it’s not the same system and stuff that why I can do so much ) Anyway I feel exhausted and drained a lot I wanna a pause but I can’t just waste time
