    I fell down the rabbit hole of playing games on a PVM, because I just started a new job as a school's IT Coordinator and we are getting rid of old technology, and I saw a PVM was sitting in storage.
    So I decided to take it home. It is a PVM 14-L2, so very similar to yours. It was used for their video and audio production class, but they haven't offered that in years, so the PVM, was just sitting in storage.
    Now, I am getting a rolling cart for it, and I bought RGB and scart cables for the Super NES. I am also going to buy a flash cart when they go in stock.

      Lucky find, Daniel! I hope you enjoy it as much as I have. It's a deep rabbit hole, but one I feel is worth going down if you're invested in the hobby.

    Wow. Cool find. I have heard of the kvx but never seen one in action. Thanks for sharing. By the way. If you know anyone that works in a hospital ask them to look in hospital storage. I picked up 3 pvms that way cheap and they are all 20 inch

    I have a PVM-14n6u model which accepts only RGB in the line 3 input, I thought Sync on Green was gonna give me YpBpr component video but I recently got a SCART to BNC breakout to play my games in RGB, that's all I have, so to play a Nintendo Wii via component video I'll need to get a Multiformat PVM and they're way expensive than the one I have.

      Not true, you can get a component to RGB transcoder. Or a non multiformat PVM that supports ypbpr. Or you can do a software region mod to get scart from your wii.

    I too have a 14L2MD. I'm a little surprised you're just using it with component mode only, though that's how I'm using it for the moment as I only have an HD RetroVision cable and a couple component consoles.

      I've since converted everything to RGB. This video is from last year.

    Is it a Rgb modded nes ? the screen looks way better in the movie then it does on my nes and pvm

  • @jormoria

    How do you connect a Nintendo nes to a Sony pvm?

    • @RETROGameGuide80
      @RETROGameGuide80  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can just plug in the composite connection from the console. If you want an RGB signal, you have to modify your console to output that signal.

    so you don't game on the 14" pvm over the consumer rgb tv??

    • @RETROGameGuide80
      @RETROGameGuide80  7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I kind of go back and forth. I like the PVM because the picture is much sharper, but 14 inches is pretty small unless I'm right next to it. The RGB TV looks a lot better since I got it calibrated, but it's no PVM.

    I can’t find any info for the KV-20XMR model anywhere. How rare is that set?

    • @RETROGameGuide80
      @RETROGameGuide80  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've only seen one and it was the one I found at a thrift store. I would guess it's fairly rare -- especially with a lot of CRTs being thrown out now.

    I can either get a 20 inch Trinitron or a pvm at 14 inches..what should I do..?

    • @riggel8804
      @riggel8804 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      What did you do? 14 is too small for me

    • @doppelsauger1334
      @doppelsauger1334 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Caliduchey go for the pvm they are much more rare.... trinitrons you can find anywhere even 27-32 inches cheaper or lot times free, depends on the pvm model but im pretty sure picking the pvm is better a 20 inch trinitron is not that expensive or rare thats a nornal

    I wish I could hook up my pc to these and run retroarch, would've been nice.

      On a PC you are way better off with any VGA monitor. A PVM is basically a VGA tube downspecced for 16kHz input.

  • @voltz15
    @voltz15 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    PVM's and BVM's are great sets.
    I was gonna say that there is a bit of an alternative route where if you can't find one, you can do a combo with something like the OSSC and a computer crt monitor if y come across that. You'll be shocked at how similar this can get to the sony tubes, but it may be a little sharp as it's meant for PC use and higher resolutions.

    Once I got into videophilia it's just.. I can't >.< Need VGA Dreamcast, also love s-vid there is s-vid-to-BNC? And then all these are just mono single channel audio right
    I don't think I can plug SNES the Genny N64+PS1+Saturn Dreamcast+PS2+Gamecube+Xbox lolllololol.. I imagine would be far more atrocious than swapping a component cord as desired..

    The convergence on your KV20 is very bad... You need to calibrate the yoke.

    • @RETROGameGuide80

      It seems like a lot, but once you've got a set up and the right cables it's pretty straightforward.
