Let's say you are looking at raw numbers. 200,000 migrants in NYC over 10 months whatever the numbers are is not relevant. There is a portion, possibly 5% to 10% that may have experience in swimming, aka a skilled swimmer. They should be capable of using those skills with a workers visa to solve the lifeguard shortage issue. Ana just says the same exact thing about how democrats are dumb and can't give visas to people because of bureacracy. Eric and Ana have the same opinion.

I don’t think Adams was stereotyping migrants. He was just saying there are jobs that migrants can fill, a noble sentiment in a time of widespread anti migrant sentiment focused on their taking away jobs.

So, he said they are excellent swimmers. But then he went on to talk about how they are also nurses, how they are also food workers. He wasn't generalizing that they were all excellent swimmers. He was trying to make a point that some of them are excellent swimmers, the same way some are nurses etc

Not much worst than saying migrants only need work authorizations to get minimum wage jobs and then they will be able to support themselves without any government assistance in one of the most expensive places in the country. I doubt work authorizations will attract more migrants. It’s not like they enter the U.S. and travel to places where these is work, family, and assistance.

Teenagers are great lifeguards. They have free summers. As kids they often got swim lessons because of helicopter parents/schedulers. They can work cheap.

I disagree with you. I literally saw this as hey some of these migrants are indeed swimmers. They could have been fishermen, lifeguards are regular worker in their own country but if they can really swim,then that is an avenue to get employed

I'm not a fan of Eric Adams, BUT I AM a thinking person, and it sounded a whole lot like what he was saying was that the migrants in the U.S. have skills that should be utilized to fill certain job shortages we have.

I was a lifeguard at local pools in Philadelphia when I was 15. At that time you were supposed to be 17 but there was such a shortage. They lied for me to get me in and the buddy of mine.
Being a lifeguard is DANGEROUS.

My son was a lifeguard and swimming instructor when he was in high school. There's no issue with teens who are properly trained doing it.

This could EASILY be interpreted as 'there are a lot of migrants in the city, and some of them are good swimmers, therefore there are a lot of good swimmers in the city. Agreed. Even though he did not articulate himself very well, he was well-meaning. Lifeguard is one of those positions that are not being filled in NYC so why not give it to some young enthusiastic swimmers who can do the job.
