  • John Deere X380 with 44" snowblower attachment cuts though some deep end of driveway snow and ice while struggling to gain traction. It wasn't until AFTER THE VIDEO WAS SHOT I noticed one tire chain on the right side had twisted around, again. I'll be trying bungee cords next to try and keep everything where it should......AGAIN....I didn't know the chain was not right until AFTER the video was shot. The chain has been fixed. There is no need to comment to let me know it's not right, I'm well aware of this. Thank you!!! ;)

    I have the JD 44" blower mounted on my LA115, it's worked *GREAT* for more than ten years in the southern Ontario (Canada) winters! Broke *ONE* belt so far, and have spares, just in case. My driveway isn't super long, but we do get an occasional *BIG* dump of snow, and when that happens, the neighbors are *super* happy that I and Martha (My Deere) are here to dig them out! Best wishes, everyone!

    Nice setup, works great. Its amazing how important rear weights and chains are. Especial straight, secure chains :).

    I also have a 370 with the 44" blower, 2 weights and a gravel driveway goes uphill 25 feet out of the garage. Last winter I had traction problems and was going to add 2 more weights but found a video on TH-cam about Rim Guard which is beet juice and it goes in the rear tires. It weighs 12 lbs per gallon and the 370 rear tires take 6 gallons each or 72 lbs per tire. The cost was $3.50 per gallon but it was only $1 more per gallon to have it done by the dealer so it came to $54 + tax. I jacke up the back end and took the tires off and brought them in since I don't have a trailer. It was easy getting them off and in the truck at 35 lbs each but had to roll them off with a ramp and up to the tractor. Then adjusted the tractor height to line up the axel and wheel - no lifting of anything needed. So far it's working well and I've had no slippage but we haven't had freezing rain then snow like last year or a major snowfall yet. I also replaced the skids with Armor Skids which you can see at snowblowerskids.com or Home Depot.

    Wow, I still can't believe how awesome that garden tractor performs! That is one mighty fine machine! I'm taking a trip down towards the Southern Tier in the next few days to photograph some trains. I'm thinking of stopping by the NY&LE. Cheers from Buffalo!

      I got the X380 also and it has great traction up dry hills mowing grass with a 48 inch deck. It has plenty of power for cutting deep grass and pulling stuff around the yard on my 1.5 acre property. The cut quality is excellent with sharp mower blades. It's a very sturdy built machine. Not cheap buying one brand new tho.

    That thing works really well. I had been looking at that tread rear tire for my garden tractor I snowblow with. The 30 year old factory rears are getting a little worn down. Ill run it the rest of the winter then deal with that. Also, tractor supply used to, not sure if they still do sold a set of like atv chain tensioners. It was just 4 springs on a center loop to keep the chains tight. Might be able to look online for something similar seeing as your tractor has the 8 inch rears instead of the 12's the bigger tractors have right?

    Before I put my chains on I let some air out of the tires get the chains as tight as I can then reinflate the tires. I don't use bungee straps and I never have a problem. my cub cadet has a locking differential and I'm thinking about trading it for a John Deere. My concern is if I buy a 300 series that doesn't have a locking diff I may have troubles with traction. My driveway is gravel.

  • @misterl2875
    @misterl2875 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I have a JD x580. Watched a few videos the last few days. In this video..started on right then blew snow from the left over the previously blown path. Why not start on the left??? And blow from both directions to reduce backing.

    • @Don55443
      @Don55443  ปีที่แล้ว

      There are a few reasons why. The driveway is at a slight incline going to the road. That believe it or not, makes it hard for the tractor to get traction. For this reason I have to make my first path to the road so I can work back to the house, using the down hill in my favor. Reason I blow the snow in the direction I blow is so that I'm not blowing it into the house. Blowing snow over the one pass I made to the road can't be avoided. In addition, the reason I start on the right side rather than the left is because of where the tractor has to come out of the garage. I know this might seem to not make scene but it's the only way it can be done. Thanks for watching.

    I have an x370 with the 44 in snow blower and even with 4 weights and chains it won't go very well on a gravel surface. I'm going to replace the chains with vbar chains and see if it is any better. If not, I'll sell or trade it in on something else.

      I have the X380 also, great little tractor. It has a limited slip axle not posi traction. I had it pull a 22 ft 600 pound wood utility pole that fell over from high winds on my property. The 380 pulled it no sweat across the grass without the mowing deck attached and no additional weights. It sure impressed the heck out of me after it did that. Great machine!
