    I vividly remember the skydivers each year dropping into the Crewe carnival and being amazed, 77 Jubilee a big treat with a few dozen, the locals flying primative RC planes (with primative AM Futaba gear) off the playing fields and always obsessed as a youngster with the Spitfires and Lancasters, could draw them to spec off memory. The blue stratos adverts and then a few years later in my adopted Australian home, the "Birdmen of Killamonjaro" movie along with "Monkey" surfing the clouds. I can just imagine the youth of today being amazed seeing the modern paraglider so close to landing and being taken away by the invisible energy of the sun. But then again, maybe not, you have to take pause, too many diversions from what's truly amazing these days. But we can only hope that the human spirit of flight isn't too diluted by the chaos of the humdrum, easily accesable cheap thrill. Another great vid Tim.

      Thanks mate! I think kids just tend to think anything is possible these days, it tends to be adults who are amazed by what we can do on modern paragliders. Most think all we do is top to bottoms and maybe a bit of soaring...

At times, some of the noises you were making sounded like I was watching a porno, haha "Oh yeeaahhh a fookin 5, lets get back in it, gimme some".... god knows what my wife thought I was watching!!........Mere mortals would have eyed up the landing zone at the start of this clip, and the fixation of the landing field would have resulted in being on the ground im sure. Looking forward to the full vid.

  • @solentfisher
    @solentfisher ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Wow!!!! Do you think it was a few smaller narrow thermals like roots feeding into one larger one in the center? I’m still not use to the bumpy air in these situations. I intentionally left my last thermal but I was kicking myself after 😅

    • @TimPentreath
      @TimPentreath  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Could have been, that's certainly what the models suggest, which is why thermals get bigger and easier to use the higher you get, and maybe the smaller blips before the main thermal would have joined the one I found higher up, but I felt they were too small to work with hence why I carried on until I got lucky

  • @sandrainthesky1011

    Hi Tim, for me in the northern hemisphere at very low altitude works better turn to the left because the rotation of the thermal is in the opposite direction and find more ease to keep in the core specially in a strong small cores. You have the similar experience or don’t saw any difference? (Maybe is just my idea) Thanks for your videos I’m flying for the last 28 years and keep learning a lot is an unlimited “drug” 😁. Regards from California

  • @htamerursavas
    @htamerursavas 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    That was so good. Do you think turning right at your second turn by the house made some difference? Do you prefer left turns? Why didnt you correct upwind with turning because you are very experienced pilot i love watching you fly and give some information :)

    • @BillHetzel
      @BillHetzel 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Turning right over the flats in the northern hemisphere is a good bet!

    • @TimPentreath
      @TimPentreath  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm not sure when you mean? Are you talking after when I found the thermal properly? Basically I turn towards where I think the wing is telling me that the thermal is. But I don't always get it right!
      Re you second question, as you can see it was small and quite rough low down so it was all I could do to stay more or less in it. Once you get high it's always easier to centre it properly and make into wind adjustments.

    • @TimPentreath
      @TimPentreath  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't believe our old friend Coriolis has anything to do with thermal rotation direction - I think it's much more down to the terrain

    • @htamerursavas
      @htamerursavas 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TimPentreath no not when you found and get couple hundered i mean when you were searching and getting into it. when it is near ground it is weak and turning opposite side makes some difference at least it is comfortable to turn opposite side

    • @TimPentreath
      @TimPentreath  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@htamerursavas I'm not sure what you mean by "turning opposite side". I was turning left at 3:05 for the first two turns, then turned to the right when I properly found it. I'm not sure if I have a preferred turn direction - I'd have to check with a flight analysing tool...
