Yusuf / Cat Stevens performs ‘Where Do The Children Play’ live on his Majikat - Earth Tour 1976.
Cat Stevens' Majikat - Earth Tour was recorded during his last legendary North American tour in 1976. It was an ambitious production involving live magicians, synchronized film projection and large innovative stage set. This was the ultimate tour of Cat Stevens before he quit the music business and became Yusuf Islam; he didn't perform on stage again for nearly thirty years.

My all time favorite Yusuf/Cat Stevens song. He was so ahead of his time, writing a song, at such a young age, with an incredibly profound message. The song is more relevant now than ever. The new recording and video for Tea for the Tillerman 2 are brilliant.

Growing up in the turbulent 60s wasn't all magical but. , peace and love were bad words then like they are today. But my generation was on a mission and it caught on big time. I'd like to believe we made a difference which can work today if people work together. Peace

I hope there will always be a place for children to run free and wild, in a healthy environment. This song meant a lot to a young woman, a friend, who sadly passed away. This song will forever remind me of her ❤️

Yusuf, you were like a surrogate Father to me. I found so much peace and love in your songs. Anytime, I missed my Dad I played your music, he was Sicilian and you both resemble each other. When I told my Dad, your music takes my sadness away he hugged me so tight, he was so grateful I chose such a wonderful man to follow. When you made a choice to follow Islam, my Father told me that he was Sicilian by birth, Moroccan on his Maternal side. He explained to me, that Muslims were forced into Christianity or face imprisonment or death, we had ancestors who split sides.
He loved knowing that YOU helped keep me in good spirit and I found you at such a young age of 6, I was born in 65, your music has guided me, has soothed me. Such a wonderful gift to live in the same lifetime as you. I truly don't know how I would have gotten along without your words of wisdom and guidance. Thank you, for a lifetime of enrichment, thanks for being my "other" Dad. You will forever have a special place in my heart and Soul ❤

In Response To Cat Stevens Earnest Question

Where do the children play?
By thousands of sewers.
running through the mud
of shanty towns.
In meadows of imagination
beside the untiring machines
of thousands of factories.
In secret visions
dreaming beneath the earth,
or in steep pits wielding picks
and hammers to yield the earth’s bounty.
They laugh wondering at butterflies,
brightly colored blossoms, and insects
in the baking heat of the ripening fields,
chasing maimed pets and friends
among fields of land mines and the
mass graves of a hundred wars,
dodging the slings and arrows,
automatic gunfire and artillery shells,
seeing flights of angels in the thunder
fire of jets circling the burning cities.
They gaze in wonder as they stare back
into the compound eyes of the relentless
flies, while drifting to a still and final torpor
in the dust of a third world pest hole,
running…hiding among broken buildings
with wooden guns, and their parent’s words,
fighting bravely in mock battles,
until errant projectiles topple them forever.
They mostly run through the golden fields
and shining hills of heaven where it seems
to the angel of death, they arrive daily
by boatloads-these war babies.
That’s where the children play.
This is a response to a song-actually one of my favorites, as in it's time it addressed a real quandary. However time keeps moving, the question needed some new answers in a world grown more dangerous to children and other living things. That was 2003...now we have Yemen, Gaza & Palestine-JUST for starters...the "angel of death" must gob-smacked by now.
