      @Back 4 More They aren't putting out full power when not in use. In fact Leviton wrote a paper a while back shwing that these could even pay for themselves compared to "dumb" chargers that don't sense and then deliver power. I am sure they have to use a microvolt or something but it's not much. I will see if I can check that with my analyzer the next time i have one

      Just want to add that a lot of those USB bricks put out more power than those outlets provide. That's why those power bricks are so big. iPads are some of the worst offenders and may not even charge if they're on while plugged in. And most devices will slow charge since they're not getting the needed amperage. I do love these outlets and have a few installed but there are some caveats.

    The problem with these things is that each phone has its own fast charging technology, and comes with a matching charger which supports that technology. So these outlets look nice and clean, but they will not fast charge your phone.

      Like my OnePlus, it has a fast charge that only works with its own chargers. I can still charge it off of any usb outlet, but OnePlus fast charging is different in that they put more controls in the charger, so the battery can stay cooler. Then also with this system, in 5 years, it will be 100$ outdated with usb z or something.

Also curious why the name Silver Cymbal? Thank you for the videos, the content is excellent but the presentation is what really sets you apart from others on you tube.You speak clearly and quickly and get right to the point. The video illustrates your commentary with closeups exactly where needed and your instinct to anticipate a viewers observations/questions and then address them during the video leaves us with a clear understanding of what your presenting.Really impressed with your range of knowledge and your communication skills. After seeing how long the “electrician” installed that receptacle with that much exposed wire at the terminal, and without the screw being straight, I’d probably want to check and fix every single device. The exposed wire would fail any inspection. I’d also be willing to bet that receptacle is not rated to hold 3 wires on each side like that and should have been spliced, with just a single wire going to the terminals. No electrician who cares about his work would “backstab” the outlet either.

      Not gonna happen. Phones come with faster chargers every year. So the price will only ever come down on obsolete, out dated units. Plus different brands use different fast charging methods. So if I had gotten the best possible outlet for my phone last year (a samsung note 9 using samsung fast charging 2.0) not only would it not be compatible with my gf's iPhone 10s, but when I buy my new Samsung Note 20, I'll have to replace all the outlets with ones that have samsung's new 10w fast charging, or I'm not getting the most out of my phone, and I'll just end up using a stand alone brick anyway. Charging tech moves too fast right now to build it into your house unless you've got money to throw away, everyone in your house uses the same charger, AND you don't mind replacing it every time you get a new phone.

    Screw colors are silver and brass. The black wire is black on brass. If you have that many black wires please make sure you don't have two circuits feeding that box. The plugs have a bridge between the top plug and the bottom. If this bridge is cut or broken on the black side you may have two circuits feeding that wall outlet.
    If checking for current do confirm the outlet is dead, check both the upper and lower plugs.

  • @PilotPlater
    @PilotPlater 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    A good habit is to short out to ground after opening but before touching the wires to ensure your tester didn't mislead you somehow. Poorly thought out split outlets may have one half still live for example. You'll weld your screwdriver to the outlet but better than a surprise.
    Although it meets code, the push terminals are more likely to fail over time. Attaching to the screws on the side will outlast the house.
    Check your local electrical code, wago terminals are not approved in many areas.
    Check the usb is at least Qualcomm quickcharge 3.0 compatible or "power delivery" (quickcharge 4.0) with the max wattage you can get, your future devices will thank me.
