There are an enormous amount of people that are involved to keep this machine in the air.
When B52's were stationed at Ellsworth Air Force Base in Rapid City South Dakota i was hauling jet fuel in and out of the base.
Yes, that's right, hauling fuel away also.
When the aircraft have to go into the hangar for maintenance the fuel tanks must be drained. The fuel can't be reused due to risk of contamination. The fuel was put in a holding tank and i hauled it back to the refinery.
Having an Airman armed with a M16 watching my every move and being in close proximity to flight operations were a unforgettable pleasure.
Yeah richard! In the 93rd Bomb wing,, at Castle, we refueled , or, de-fueled, well over a million pounds of fuel every night! to have 10 or 12 bombers, ready for the next day’s flying schedule.
There was always a very large fuel tanker tied up to a bomber, pumping fuel. Rain or shine, (blizzard or not) at “Ellsworth by the Sea”! He He!

Thanks for sharing, this was the mid 1970's when, as a civilian, i did my service for the mission at Ellsworth. It was less than a decade after i had separated from the United States Army.
Just a short time past, someone currently in the Air Force pointed out that 3% fly the mission and all the rest support the mission.

My father was one of the original B-52 pilots in the 1950’s. It still shocks me that this plane is still in use over a half century later. They brought one of the B-52’s he flew to the Air Force Academy, where it still stands near the North Gate.
It’s an amazing and tough aircraft. Second to her crew!

My husband was a C-5 Pilot. We called it, “Fat Fred” because it simply didn’t look like the weight would lift off the ground. Both my father, and husband lost their hearing very early in their careers. I’m happy better ear protection is used now.

Cool video, dude! I like these insights into American military vehicles. My old man was in the British Army so I have a love so the military and always loved the B2 growing up.
BUFF is a legend, and this is one of the better internet looks at it. It really makes me miss flying in the 1963 C-130. A lot of the equipment and instruments look very similar.

51st Bomb Squadron, Seymour Johnson AFB, 1981. The best in the business. Numerous shacks on ORI missions. Set THE standard for all of SAC.
I have about 1200 hours flying on these as a Tail Gunner on the G model. I’m now an airline pilot. I would love to fly one more mission. I can still smell the airplane.
Retired KC-135A/R & KC-10 Boom Operator. We probably shared the skies together at some time. Used to mess with the gunners while we were in the same dorm during training at Castle AFB back in 1980. You can still smell the airplane eh? I remember y'all carrying those "standing urinals", oops, the coffee jugs from inflight kitchen. LOL.

Seeing 125 B-52s launch at Anderson AFB suddenly overwhelms you with the power these crews have. At the last launch, knowing some of the crews will not be returning, is as equally profound.
Every time I see a documentary about our armed forces, I’m always impressed with the high level of professionalism no matter what the role. Good film.

when i was in the USAF i was stationed at a B-52 base. When the B-52's and tankers took off the base seemed to shake like a earthquake.

One from Ellsworth flew low over the Des Monies area about a month ago and I missed by I could you, not 30 seconds. And that hurt a lot that I missed it. Maybe if you are at Ellsworth you could ask them to fly 7,000 feet I will hear you this time :)

It was tied to pressurization of the jet, we had to dive to 10k and depressurize.

Why did the temperature increase in the cabin?
Essentially the engine heat was stuck open on the jet due to pressurization. We had to dive below 10K and depressurize.

Not to ride a B-52 seems like a pretty easy life goal my friend. Lol it’s an amazing aircraft.
