Merv is a game I'd like to get but it falls behind other wanted games when it comes to my budget. Maybe I can get a play in at a con in the future. There have been several games I have lost badly when playing solo but I feel the same as you do, it should be hard and it motivates me to try again, usually. Was still a great playthrough :)
I think if you want to have a chance to win, you have to block him on the palace action and prevent him to have a row with 4 or 5 buildings, otherwise he places too many courtiers in the palace. Competing on the same actions he does is important too.
Now I don't feel so bad about my two solo losses :P Game 1 - Me: 76 AI: 94 Game 2 - Me: 33 AI: 79 (in the end I felt like I could have done just as well just doing random things, bleh!)
It’s probably the rules of the game but you were using the term row quite often when I would see column based on the grid system for the market so for instance based on what you said for the first placement, you based it on furthest column rather than furthest row, so on face of it the placement was wrong. Not played game so I am likely the one who is confused.
It is in the rules of the game :) The game uses the term "row" for either the row or column, depending upon whether you are resolving the top/bottom or left/right of the grid.

Does anyone know why Merv is on the hotness right now? New expansion or something?
Nope. Just a 2nd print run and a marketing push from the publisher
@@GamingRulesVideos thank you!
you might need to play against an honest magistrate. iI liked the game, may need to pick this one up.
even for solo.
I might have a better chance :)

@@GamingRulesVideos I’d knew it’d be me. I shall investigate your first vid that taught before I go further with this one.
Hello from Ohio.
If you have a 3D printer you can have a look here for an insert for Merv: www.thingiverse.com/thing:4730665
LaserOx actually sell an official licensed one now as well. Head to their website for more info. They are rather nice!
