Americans need not show any deference. Even if some have, on occasion, it's been own decision.
As you say, no royalty, even royals in exile if there are any, are deferred to in America. Neither is it expected. In fact, the President and his wife do not bow when visiting the Monarch here, and rightly so, they're equal. In actual fact, nobody need bow or curtsey at all if they're uncomfortable with that, or can't. A handshake is more than acceptable. The majority do like to show respect in Britain as they did for the late Queen who was loved by so many.
As for Harry and Meghan, they shouldn't expect anyone to take notice of their titles. They are not supposed to refer to themselves or allow others to refer to them, as HRH at the late Queen's request. Even their children being called "Prince" and "Princess" has become meaningless in your country.
