Nathan, I have fixed most of the "Snatchy throttle" issue with one simple 5 minute fix. On the clutch lever just at the back of the ABS switch you will find a simple two pin plug. This plug is designed to cut the fuel to the engine once the clutch lever is pressed, but in the 450MT's case its way too severe. Pull that plug out and simply make a short metal loop and place in the female side. I have used a small motorbike fuse and that works fine to complete the circuit. It's simple takes no time at all and it will make a huge difference to the slow speed issues of the bike. Here in New Zealand we have done three bike recently and all to great success so give it a go and let me know how you get on. Thanks. Peter.

I’ve loved your content on this bike. You’re so good at explaining the things that matter to a prospective rider. I’ve had my 450MT for 3 weeks now and have only done a couple of fire trail rides, but so far I’m very impressed. I’m keen to put some of those XT+ tyres on and then I can tackle some real off road conditions.

I think corroded spokes can sometimes be harsh snow foams and traffic film remover. People think products that dissolve the mud quickly are doing a good job, but some products also attack platings.

I was lucky to get my 450mt in July 24, I have been careful to only add a new bash plate, some old stronger hand guards I had from a previous bike and I have added upper crash bars, but having seen how strong the plastics are from others bikes that have been in quite severe drops I may remove the crash bars. Taking the slack out of the throttle cables really does help reduce the snatch, and it doesn't take long to adjust your riding so as to forget about it. Coming from a Tenere I just don't miss the extra power, the 450 seems more like it has 60hp rather than 42. I love my 450 and it will be with me for many years.

Good point about how CFMotot have reset the market with this bike. Suzuki did the same way back with the launch of the 600 and 1200 Bandit, they massively undercut the Yamaha XJR and Kawasaki ZRX resulting in the price of those being slashed by as much as 2 grand! It did great things for affordability of bikes from all manufacturers for years after. Lets hope they get the DRZ priced competitively?

Harsh throttles can also be helped by changing the cam profile on the hand throttle. Soften the shape of the cam where it initially starts pulling the cable can really smooth the initial response of the engine. Thats it it is a cable throttle and not electronic. If its electronic, then im guessing that it should be easy to adjust the programming of the throttle opening without affecting the fuel map.

I got my 450MT late last year and have only done about 800 miles so far. Every time I get on it I am 'shocked' how damn good it is for the money. I test rode the 450 Himalayan and that is a great bike. The Himi feels like it was carved from granite, it is so solid. The MT has a much lighter feel even though the bikes have a similar weight. Tubeless rims are standard on the MT and anyone who has had to change tubes a few times knows that can be a god send 🙂 I don't understand why Honda don't put tubeless rims on the Transalps, if they did I may of bought one !

    • @nathanthepostman
      @nathanthepostman  11 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

Yes it's bizarre isn't it not fitting tubeless to bikes like the transalp which they market as more road based adventure machines. Same with vstrom 800de. I'd love to know if it's a cost decision or whether it's what they think the market wants

Brilliant video mate happy 2025, as a nx500 owner I agree, I think a lot comes down to usage case an being honest with yourself on how an what you are gonna ride also personal managability, an choosing the bike that fits with that weight wise.
I’ve just sold my 1150gsa with the way my shoulder is an the reality of that, I couldn’t handle the weight most of the time, I’ll really miss it though had some amazing memories on it.
lad who bought it moved it around like me moving a nx500. An ex gs trophy rider N rode it away in the snow n ice to new adventures and touring.
For me next im gonna go back really lightweight like the crf300 rally but something a bit different.
With going for a lightweight bike it’s gonna open up the possibility of some green laning an trail riding again, am I might even go lighter than a typical adv bike. Especially with the confirmed move to Somerset in April opens up a lot more places to ride a dealers like Rugged Roads not being to far away.
(Also all the Ktm shops bar one are shut up here near me an that’s 2 hours away)
For dad the nx500 fits him perfectly as he is only road riding for his adventures or very easy gravel roads with his stage 3b/4 prostate cancer. N our Norway trip will be hotels for his comfort as his energy comes back from the radiotherapy more he wants to give some lanes a go so I’ll get him something very light for that.
I agree though the cf moto seems well more serious for trail riding.
For me the 390 adv r is an interesting proposition although the lower exhaust is a concern can’t believe they did that 🙃
Totally agree on pricing, being very into my British bike history I think the Japanese could end up repeating that if they are not careful.
I think if Suzuki had done a DRZ Rally an it was 7,500 maybe but it’s certainly up there price wise.
You only have to look at the Kove an all the comments on Hrc’s Instagram of people asking when are we gonna see something like that from Japan.
They could have really done something different with a lightweight bike with low tanks on the 300 rally.

Reliable, economical, strong residuals, good dealer back up, ride well etc. It just doesn't have the all round ability of the CF Moto in my opinion; ie more road biased, which if that's what you want then it could be a good way to go. I do have the Rieju 500 Aventura which is a bit of a copy of the CB500X and I do like that. But the CF moto is just a great all rounder.

They weigh around 115kg dry if I remember correctly. They're for sale in the UK. Parts appear to be very cheap for it as well. Good honest review again
But sorry I'm not sold on this as an Adventure bike
Think you got it spot on by saying it sounds good and looks good
Most people that buy this bike will take up a few lanes and down the cafe, and that will fit the image
I'm told it can go thousands of miles before the valves need looking at
But it can only go 3k before the oil & filter need changing
The 450 himmy is by far the better bike as far as long distance adventures, purely on servicing alone
20/30/40 k Adventure will see a healthy gain just on the servicing which in turn helps pay for the trip
I think once again the biking public have been left wanting by a brand that really needs to look at the service intervals on an Adventure bike

The old 411 was 3000 miles valve checks and that didn't stop anyone travelling on them. The new one is valves every 6000 miles for the first 12000 miles and is a big job. Personally I think the regular oil on the CF moto is a better option than fairly regular valves on the Himalayan.

    • @wetiain
      @wetiain 11 วันที่ผ่านมา

Definitely agree Nathan, an oil change on the road is very easy and cheep to get done , it’s a spin on filter , air filter is also a doodle to get at to clean or change, something that’s probably more on a long journey on dusty roads.

@@wetiain I no longer buy new bikes
I had a bad experience in Morocco on a himalayan
I got both of our bikes serviced at enfield in Casablanca
We continued on our journey but I had many problems with my bike
I was sent to enfield in Irun on the way home to get it fixed
They asked for my service book which I gave to them
They refused to fix my bike under warranty as the previous dealership was not an authorised dealer ( despite the sign outside there shop ) village enfield
I paid £6020 for the full on every accessory known to man for that bike
Lots of money and arguments later I got £2600 as it had no warranty to transfer to the new owner
So it's easy to say change the oil and filter on the road
But I would check first with the dealership before you go if you have a new bike and get it in writing as to what there rules are for self servicing
Many require a UK receipt with VAT added and genuine parts
Some are more understanding and let you sign your own service book
Be warned there are lots of bumps in the road for self servicing

The puncture is sealed immediately, I'm only saying OKO products though, can't recommend any other brands.

Remember, these comparison weights, especially with the Yamaha T7, the CFmoto has crash bars already fitted, the T7 doesn't, if you're not falling over regularly, take the crash bars off, put a tail tidy on and only fill the relatively large tank when you're travelling long distances.... Depending on where you live, you could put an aftermarket pipe on and remove the cat... All up you could remove around 20kg... Ride one first, everyone I know who's ridden this bike thinks it feels a lot lighter that it really is, it's a well balanced bike weight wise...

I have a T7 and have tested the CFmoto twice now.
I’m not really sure it’s a fair comparison due to the cost difference mind.
I was riding a CRF250 and I think if I’d had bought the 450 without riding a T7 I’d have been very happy with it but I think it’s now hard to move from a T7 the the 450.
I think the build and overall quality is fair better on the T7. The weight feels massively different, the 450 feels way lighter but also feels too low to the ground (kinda strange saying that I know) it’s more like the pegs are too low and close to the seat maybe? for beginners it would feel more reassuring I think.
Maybe the impressions of the bike are dictated by where you ride it, I’m in wales and I’m not sure the bike would hold up to the rocks around here?

Interesting feedback Ian. Can't see why the CF moto wouldn't fair well in Wales. But if you're assessing it as a pure trail bike it's going to have limitations. Less ground clearance than a t7 as well. Bound to suit different people for different reasons.

anybody here done any miles on one yet? are the springs a bit heavy rate or is it the damping a bit slow or both? my opinion its a small T7 not exactly ground breaking engineering just a good application of a lower budget, creating a good package to a point. the CF has the advantage of being in a niche of its own really and possibly sold at a price point to break in to the market (good for us) and hurt others (not so good). Think it is the beginning of a new flow of machines surprising though how many are still hanging on to chinesium etc and others that have yet to hear of CF MOTO. E09's you will likely ride them a fair distance with zero air, probably the weight will suck up a bit of power and not the most pliable for grip, the complete opposite carcass to a tracker for example. from my experience great words thanks.

    • @nathanthepostman
      @nathanthepostman  11 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

Thanks 1229. I took this passage from Rally Raid website who have investigated the stock shock...
Workshop Wednesday: Development and testing for the CFMOTO 450MT. We've done some initial testing of the damping and spring rates of the OEM Shock and Fork which confirmed our initial ride feedback, that the shock was over-damped excessively on rebound and the forks were under-sprung in the initial stage as shown in the dyno charts.
We replaced these OEM parts with our initial replacement shock, which has reduced rebound and a wider range of damping adjustment, plus new 22mm diameter open cartridges with linear fork springs, rather than the extremely soft progressive fork springs which are fitted as standard.
We are happy with the shock performance and now we're doing the fine adjustments for the oil levels on the fork cartridges to reduce bottoming out over large whoops, but the initial first half of the travel is a big improvement over the OEM fork action, we're also looking at the possibility of a plus 30mm travel shock and fork kit for those riders that want to ride more aggressively off road, or are very tall. So stay tuned!

Just a quick general comment on tyre changing on the trail. Are you aware of "bead buddies", they're a motocross thing, they act like a second set of levers that hold the bead in place while your refitting the tyre. Come from motocross. Make refitting tyres without ripping the tube a hell of a lot easier. Can easily carry a couple in your toolkit. Thought I'd flag them up for anyone who hasn't heard of them.

@@nathanthepostman They're no real help in getting the tyre off (but if you've already got a puncture (and a spare tube) you don't care about pinching the tube when getting it off), but they make a massive difference when re-fitting the tyre if you're own your own (they are designed for MX tyres after all), they're really just a bracket that holds the bead in place while you move your levers to the next position (you just keep sliding them along your rim as you work your way around). I've used them quite a lot on some pretty ugly tyres and find them to be a great help. I've got a couple of different makes in my workshop, cheaper ones on Ebay are quite a bit thinner and lighter than the 'official bead buddies' but actually work just as well and take up a lot less space/weight so I think they're actually better. They're only about a tenner each (you need two), might be interesting to do a little review on them for your viewers (no I don't have any financial interest in them 😊). I would note though, that it's quite easy to scratch your rims with them if you're not careful (if you care about such things).
