Very impressive results for a kick mic! And every time man... I'm impressed by your production, arrangements and overall playing skills. Looking forward for the next one, Cheers!
Very impressive review! Your creativity and skills are awesome and inspiring!👍 BTW the Beyerdynamic TG D50d was also a Kick mic with universal capabilities due to an inbuilt EQ switch
Wow the thing that I came away with from this video was you get a lot of cohesion from the sound of one microphone for everything on a song. Would be cool to do for one short song on an album, using a mic that’s not present elsewhere on the album. Takes you to a new world really quickly.
Awsome, i check every day for your videos 😅, glad you´re here again, nice work, i didnt know anything about that brand (DPA) after seeing your videos i want all of them, sounds amazing in your hands, cheers!.
Thanks so much Edwin! :) feels good to be back, a lot of production projects the last couple months here in the studio. Honestly, the DPA mics have climbed to the top of the list here in the studio. :)
This is also a huge, huge advertisement for the EC2. Crazy versatile and smooth! If you ever get a chance, I'd love to hear you demo a Chameleon Labs 7603! Pretty affordable take on the 1073 which is considered somewhat of a sleeper hit among people who own it.
It’s honestly the most used pre here in the studio! :) at this point, I’m not doing many remakes of items that are already in production by the main manufacturer, but in time I’ll definitely go into those units too.
@@alecbrits hell yeah! I haven't gotten any Cranborne stuff yet but as soon as I can afford it the EC2 is near top of my list. Have you checked out the N8/used the cast-based stage boxes in your live room? Seems like an amazing way to have a studio wired up.
I’d never have considered recording an entire track with a kick mic. Your track has come out surprisingly well. Nice work, Alec! I was imagining it would have been very woolly or weird. 👏
When I was in the music production program in college in 1997 I walked into the second-year studio one evening and saw a group of students in my class experimenting with a D112 on vocals. I didn't say anything but I remember recoiling at the thought of using the "wrong" mic. 😂
Another job well done! Definitely a smart move pairing the DPA with EC2. Dare we say extended frequency response!!! I’m quite familiar with the DPA/B+K products but the Cranbourne stuff is really starting to impress me.
The mic and the review are fantastic as expected from your channel, but the song … absolutely amazing! I keep coming back to the review for the music! Is it available somewhere?
Did your singing get better, or is it the DPA making you sound a bit like Sting? Great performance! And incredibly surprising results from a kick drum mic! Thanks for putting in so much energy and time in your wonderful videos :-)
Am I crazy or is this an amazing vocal mic? From just a listeners perspective this sounded better on your voice than some of the more expensive vocal mics you have reviewed. Which makes me think this mic may be similar to a Beyer M88 another kick mic that is amazing on vocals.
This was so fascinating! I’m not recording live drums in my space yet, but this will definitely be on my mind when I do. Slight side question for you: do you use open-back headphones at all when mixing, and if so, which do you use? I’m looking to upgrade mine.
@@alecbrits Thanks! Those and the Beyerdynamic DT1990s are at the top of my list, but the Neumanns seem to be used by a lot of high reputable 0390”3 such as yourself👍
It’s really handy to be able to shape it to how you want it. It took a second for me to get used to the fact that it was not pre-eq’d. But now I miss it a lot here in the studio!
Here's the problem with these one mic videos: Alec is too good an engineer and artist. Also, he obviously signed a deal with a dark entity. That's the only sensible explanation.
I think it's one of your best sounding tracks - that mic added a certain warmth to everything - almost vintage warmth. lovely.
Thanks so much! :) it’s a wicked mic, really miss having it around here.
Amazing….. we missed your reviews …so glad you put a new one up. Song is really amazing !!!! Great sound!!!
Thank you so much! :)

Thanks so much Simon! :)
It’s amazing how this mic suits your voice the best
Agreed. Turns out my voice has been a bass drum all along. :)
Very impressive review! Your creativity and skills are awesome and inspiring!👍 BTW the Beyerdynamic TG D50d was also a Kick mic with universal capabilities due to an inbuilt EQ switch
Thanks Olav! :) oh my, I gotta find me one of them.
Incredible mic review. Entiretrck with a KICK DRUM MIC! And totally diggin the Sting vibe on this track.
Thanks so much Christopher! :)
wow, that is pretty incredible sounding very rich and natural, gotta get this mic
It’s a great mic! :)
Thanks!
Thank you so much Blake! Really appreciated.

That’s a great idea! I may well do that on my record. 🤔

Another great review as always!
Thank you SDR! :)

Thank you Tim! :D it was a great experiment. 👌🏽
I am loving this on guitar more than anything else! wow!
It’s a beast! :)

Hahaha, a good lesson in “there are no rules”.
Sting singing Heatwave, I love your music man.
Thank you so much! :)

It’s really ace! :) big fan of the Cranborne/DPA combo.
Awesome video - thanks for making it!
Thank you Carlito! :)
DPA mics are just fantastic.
100% :)
The mic and the review are fantastic as expected from your channel, but the song … absolutely amazing! I keep coming back to the review for the music! Is it available somewhere?
Thank you so much! :) I’m building a plan to be able to record and release during the year.
@@alecbrits Looking forward!
Good song and GOOD mic !

Try the AKG rocket. It is awesome on kick. The D202. Unmatched.
Sure thing! I’ll keep an eye out for one :)
Great video as always and great track .. is it just me or would a small brass section be sweet in that chorus section?
Keep the great reviews coming!
Thanks Patrick! Horn section would be AWESOME in this track! :)
Excelent content!😃 Really nice songs!👌
Thank you so much Carlos!! :)
cracking vid sir!
Thank you sir! :)

100% agree. I was blown away by the versatile nature of it, but when I sang into it I was like “oh my gosh.. ok this is serious”.
Amazing 👍
Thank you Jeffrey! :)

I have started using them more recently. :) I’ve not spent time with different brands. But at this point it’s the Neumann NDH-30’s.
@@alecbrits Thanks! Those and the Beyerdynamic DT1990s are at the top of my list, but the Neumanns seem to be used by a lot of high reputable 0390”3 such as yourself👍
What kind of snare is that sounds really good, the mic is also killer.
It’s a Craviotto Birch 14x6.5. :)
Where can I buy the track you are playing? Sound great 👍
Thank you so much! :) they will start to be released next year.
Hey Sting! 👋
Oh now that’s very kind. :)
Studiocare won't sponsor me lol. Nice Mic btw : )
I’m not sponsored by them. :) it’s a great mic indeed!
Now do this with a Beta 52A 😂
Hahaha.. oh boy!
Actually thought the weakest use of the DPA on this track was kick hahaha

😂😂 a dark entity! Best comment so far.
