Indicators on the correct side (taking back control?) 😊 Update…..your free hand is in the middle for LHD or RHD and all Australian manufacturered cars have it on the outside. We used to downshift and indicate simultaneously and your right hand on the door side can both steer, indicate and select from those buttons thus leaving your left hand to deal with ‘drinks lollies chocolates’ etc. LHD has the same convenience. Germans couldn’t be bothered to adapt to what you once had waaay back in the 50s…..right?.
It looks like a good start. Gives the impression that they’ve rushed it to market and a few additional finishing touches would have made this much more desirable. Good first effort
Yikes. On a farm, that motor is going to get ripped off in under a week. It'll be fine for road use, but off road you're going to need a solid metal shield under that. Apart from that it would make a decent farm truck.
I think Australia is one of the biggest markets for utes in the world and we have the indicator switch on the right. Looks like it could be aimed at the Australian, New Zealand, African markets.
@@MarthaMansbridge I live here and and you're talking shit. There's LDV's, GWM's, even Mahindra utes and other brands I don't know the names of. Some people aren't fashion victims buying the most expensive US piles of shit they can get. Most people buy based on practical and economical assessments. Especially when their livelihood depends on it. Most Australian's prefer Toyota's for this reason but not everyone can afford them and with the price of fuel being so volatile I know that I'm not the only one to be looking for an electric alternative.
It’s the norm to have them on the right in far eastern markets. Until recently Japanese & Korean vehicles had them on the right when brought into the UK.
For the first electric pick up on the UK market this is an excellent attempt, as a pick up driver and a potential customer I am loving this , when the 4x4 arrives I'll be straight to the dealer.
Really enjoyed this one, James. A lovely blend of technical, practical and good old fashioned 'likeable'. I've heard about these media strikes and sorry that Kate and Florence withheld their consent to audio. Hopefully they'll return to the negotiating table soon 😂🤣😂
Love your reviews guys! Great level of detail and a big help for potential buyers. This is definitely not a Pick-up for taking your surf board down to the beach or just trying to look butch in then.
The range is surprisingly good for what must be barn door type aerodynamics and how many people actually need to go offroad in their normal working lives (as opposed to leisure activities destroying country tracks ?). A proper set of tyres should be all most need. The lack of underside protection should help the aftermarket sector thrive. Just far too big for most peoples needs but a clear shot at the heart of the US automotive sector. Great review.
Great review I actually saw one of these in the supermarket carpark in Billingham and did a double take. It had a green UK number plate on a pickup truck I thought someone was being a bit cheeky but no its a real BEV. Not sure its worth having a pickup just for the grocery run but our UK roads are a bit rough, lol.
ISTR that British cars even in the seventies (way too far back for James of course 🤣) had the indicator stalk on the right. The location of fuel filler caps / flaps was another thing. These days we have the LHD adoption for almost all vehicle functions because RHD is no longer the dominat market norm.
This may sound strange but I am a Silverado guy and many things on the body and in the cab look GM to me. The interior plastic parts looked tweaked but the body components look GM.
2 speakers, no speed control, can’t go offroad, underpowered, wrong column stalks, rock hard seat cushions, no locking tailgate - to attract buyers, it must be way more efficient than an ICE version? We needed to hear Kate’s take on this one. Thanks, James.
It doesn't hold a candle to the ford ranger. I love electric vehicles but this one as shown isn't a work truck on any level. Well maybe an inspector in the trades. I love this channel. ❤ 💯 👍
Thanks for your great appraisal of this vehicle and moreover your honesty. Well done. I own a 20 years old Ford Ranger diesel 4WD extra cab. Based on your appraisal of the Maxxus I doubt it would come anywhere near the performance of even my Ranger never mind later model petrol or diesel powered ones. Anyway keep up the great work 👍
I’ve just got in in time. Mine arrived on Thursday. Maxus have pulled the deals now. Realised they were gonna be left with a car park full of 2 year old Evs all going to the auction at the same time
All that empty space upfront and no frunk? Then there is no cruise control, a tiny glove compartment with no sorage under the back seats, and the rear motor looks like an afterthought
You wont see too many of them on farms at that price. If it was a cheap diesel option, maybe, they are the price of a main stream diesel pickup. Cant see the battery lasting long while towing a cattle trailer
if it wasnt just the worst vehicle itd be very neat having a ev truck. I still dream of the 90's ford ranger ev, i dont think we'll ever see any small trucks again, which is sad as if it was smaller, itd be a better EV.
Why that noise , everyone I know looks before they step into the road , deaf people ask for assistance etc , Don’t tell me people just walk of the pavement without looking and observing while they cross 🤪🤪😊👍
Very much a 2nd generation EV in a 3rd Gen world. Add to that it's overpriced. BYD have a Pickup in production soon, that will be coming to Australia, so it will be RHD and I expect that to be cheaper than this Maxus POS.
About the only good thing on what looks like an early model is the range of this thing, which is decent. I guess they had to launch the truck to get the name out there, but no 4WD (essential for farm and construction work), and that exposed rear motor, and the lack of even cruise control on a £50k truck means you may as well buy a van. For comparison, a top of the range SsangYong Musso (which has won a ton of awards) is just over £41k, and that is absolutely loaded with tech and off-road ability. Even the £36k version has heated & cooled front seats. I like the idea of an electric truck, but with 4WD and any kind of decent spec, this will likely by a £55k - £60k truck and I don't get who would buy that. It's why the Mercedes X-class truck failed. No-one really wants an expensive pick-up truck in this country.
I think less bonnet length, greater load length. Who the heck thinks that the owner-driver would not need a locking tailgate? As to the load bed liner, that’s an optional extra.
This looks old school - more like a Mitsubishi - I’d much rather have a Ssangyong Musso in EV which I suspect they’re working on and the added bonus is it’s Korean - not an overpriced Chinese machine. There’s no justification charging this money for a pickup made in China EV or not.
Just saw a lease deal for one of these for £51 a month, £51 deposit and 10k miles. Seeing this I'm tempted.
They sold out else I’d have ordered within 3 mins
wow can you remember where you saw that?

except its 2wd only and can't tow. Unlikely it will ever see a farm.

But the Aussies like proper trucks - this 2WD thing isn’t going to impress anyone there

Have a look at lease prices now. You won’t want to wait
First time I saw one of these, I thought how neat it would be with a couple of KTM EXC electric enduros on the back. That's my idea of heaven.
Great review, just to point out the height and width appears to have got mixed up, it's actually 1,809 cm high.

She specifically asked to be removed from this one as she was a bit too negative on video. They’re back soon however 👍

I'd be looking at resistors to put in series with the outside speaker, to get the noise to "5 in the morning departure" bearable for the neighbours. 😊

I'm changing my views on LED headlights....replacement cost is crazy. Better to have an oldstyle light bulb.
Good point
Great review mate especially from a mechanic who’s found the faults which should be sorted on the next version or maybe updates 🤔😎
Obviously James is correct that drive motor at the rear needs a SKID PLATE to help protect any and all potential damage to those units.
I took a shot every time James said "Agricultural".
I'm now very,... Very drunk. 😜❤️

😱nice drop in a year! 1:55 £50k+VAT 18:24 £36k+VAT
Isnt it amazing how things have changed. 30 years ago we’d be over the moon with a car that had halogen lights! Now we go nah.

But what did Florence think?!😄
Loved it. Called it Max 😂😂
@@Jamesandkateoh that's brilliant, bless her.😂🤣😂
You can imagine that appearing in the old Milky Way Race adverts!
If there is no frunk in that huge wind-resisting front end, why wasn’t it streamlined to increase cruising efficiency?
Then it won't look like a truck. Trucks need to be brick-like to intimidate.
Because its available as a diesel pick up in other markets

Super thumbnail !
Surely there should be no VAT on a used vehicle? The VAT was paid when the vehicle was new. My understanding is that it cannot be levied twice.
I have seen lease prices at £99 a month. Madness
Saw the motor mounted that way, nope.
That rear differential is crying out to hit, and be shattered on, a raised access cover in roadworks.

A 2 wheel drive pickup with poor ground clearance and no spare wheel - who on earth would buy this?
Ford F-150 also comes as a 2 wheel drive (base model). Plenty of people buy that.
£100 a month? I wouldn’t ever want a pick up truck or anything this unknown but even I would be tempted at that price.

Not adding a large useful frunk in an electric pickup is just lazy engineering and manufacturing.
