This piece is the reason pianos exist... I only wish people knew more about your work - you're right up there with the greatest composers of our time. You truly are an amazing artist - thank you so much.
I've recently bought your music book from galactica, because of this song. 2 years ago i asked you if someday i could be able to play with my own hands this master piece, and you (or someone in your name) told me that it wouldnt take long. I've been waiting until that day it comes true, and finally it has. Thank you, Bear. I really needed to play this. (if you have no objection at all, i will upload a video playing it. It's wonderful, i fell in love since the first note i heard from it).
If I could choose a way of leaving this world, probably would be listening this masterpiece....It always came from time to time...it moves something so deep in me.
Oh my, are you going to be doing more of these? I am already spending way too much time every day watching the others. Sigh. Makes me want to learn piano. Or maybe I should try playing these on guitar. Oooh... impossible mission!
That beautiful book on the piano, and it's music that was made for it, is totally immortal art. I love you mr Mccreary and the epic music you will always be remembered for, even if the real BSG fan group stays a rare breed amongs the human kind.
I remember you playing this at the House of Blues San Diego during Comic-Con 2009. Still gives me chills thinking about it. A beautiful piece of music!
First, you don't have to keep the television, radio, and computer off. And second, one shopping trip with some music is not enough to complain about. That's what the majority likes, who cares? It's not like, oh, that's ALL the music there is so I guess I'll sit at home and cry. We still get to enjoy music like this.
100% factual story. I was watching BSG at my managers house weekly at this time… he partook of the devil’s lettuce… I rarely did… but I happened to on the evening of this episodes premier… despite all those chemicals, I still stopped and said “STFU!!!!” As it was the greatest modern composition I had heard since Edward Elgar’s enigma variations. It’s pure beauty.
Amazing, but to be honest I prefer the studio version because it's slower and I think that gives a better feel to the song. Still love it though. I'll be attending Comic-Con this year and would love to see Bear there!
I'm pretty sure that this music is unprecedented for a science fiction show on TV. I mean, what do you say? It's like some timeless classical piece... Rachmaninov would be jell! ;)
You don't. No one is forcing you to listen to her. I mean, don't get me wrong, Bear's music is just the best but love Lady Gaga because she is a talented pianist and singer. To each their own, you know?
yes, the original soundtrack is holy to me too. I like it better too. I just didn't agree with you when you said rushed. I love it both. But everybody is different. I respect your reaction.
Yeah, sure, no one is forcing you if you stay at home and never turn on the TV, radio or computer I suppose. Tell me, if I go to a shopping mall, which is more likely to be blaring out of the speakers, Lady Gaga, or this?
Mia Martel Neither. Lately the stuff blaring into elevators is what they call “classic rock,” but which I recognise as the music that was popular when I was in high school: 1982-1986. The world is huge, with a limitless variety of music and art available to us all. If you chose to open you heart and mind to the possibility that there is beauty in almost everything, rather than opting to view your work with bitterness and rage, you might find existence far more tolerable - possibly even joyful. Or you could just choose to bitch about pop music and shake your fist at the clouds while shouting at the neighbourhood kids to get off your lawn. Your call.

its been 8years, and i didnt forget. ill remember the show forever, forever.
Poor chief. This was such an agonizing blow.
Memories are coming back...thank you Bear.
So Say We All
What a dreary world we'd live in if all music was the same.
The world is big enough for both the Lady Gagas and the Bear McCrearys.
This is the kind of music that makes you happy and sad at the same time, the best kind of music.
12 years later and I'm still returning to this piece in the BSG piano book and trying to learn it
Great piece Bear. And yes, Kathic, poor Chief.
It's so fitting that there is a book on Gershwin right behind him when this song always makes me think of Gershwin. :)
Great song, as always.
I'm in tears, right now! You are the best! My favourite show in the 2000's decade, my favourite composer, my favourite song.

Still play? Just started myself for the exact same reason as you pretty much, but for "Elegy" as opposed to this. This is #2 though haha
The begining and the end of this theme is so touching, so original, so authentic... i have no words for it. Just, thank you.
If I could choose a way of leaving this world, probably would be listening this masterpiece....It always came from time to time...it moves something so deep in me.
This song makes my spine shiver and makes me want to cry because it is so beautiful.

Bear, the only guy that shares his secrets with us mortals!!!
OMG! I love this! So civilized. You're both adorable!

Yeah, I'm trying to learn this one and left hand at 2:07 is where I just can't cut it! Your work is beautiful, Bear.

one of my favorites, please keep doing these vids!
...though I have to say I too preferred the slower beginning in the studio version. Still - amazing piece, amazing performance!!
Fuuuuck... I have the sheet book and can play most pieces but both this and Prelude to War are impossible. Wish I could play them :(
Bear, you have talent! It's amazing!

Fine music knows no Earthly language, it is the language of the soul.
P E R F E C T I O N ... there really isn't much else that you need to say about this track!
What style!
Che stile..

I like change at 0:48 Oh wait I like it all, I like all music from Bear:)
What style!
so true
Still a brilliant piece
Is there an album or a place to download all these BSG Piano songs because I WANT THEM ALL! TAKE MY MONEY PLEASE!
It's certainly a compelling piece.
Season 4 was probably the weakest season of BSG (I loved the first two seasons), but the music was sublime.
This is just mind-blowingly magnificent.
I'm pretty sure that this music is unprecedented for a science fiction show on TV.

That's what this reminds me of...

Do I dare to eat a peach?
You don't. No one is forcing you to listen to her. I mean, don't get me wrong, Bear's music is just the best but love Lady Gaga because she is a talented pianist and singer.

1 dislike, that's Hans Zimmer
Holy crap, left hand at 2:07 :-O
how i feel

Why so fast, Bear?
No make how satisfied I get with myself, Bear McCreary will always play this 10x better then me...
:/
Oh well, it's cuz he's amazing....
Who disliked?? Lets get 'em!!
Real music still exists look! look!
Bear's got the Lord of the Rings on his bookshelf. =)
then you're tuned on the wrong frequency. Perfection is the word...
As much I love this song, I feel like Bear's performance here is really rushed.
dont leave howard shore out of the list :D
I like his performance on the soundtrack better. Sorry. :P Different strokes.
Heh... Frakmaninov.

too much for Casca.
I can't believe we have to put up with Lady Gaga, instead of listening to actual music like this!
the81kid
It’s a big universe. There is room for everyone. Lady Gaga happens to be a gifted musician and singer, and she is maturing, as is her music.
