I had one of these in green in the 70s, nice bike. When I first bought it, I took a lad on the back and wheelied up the road, totally unintentional, sold it after a while then bought a 1976 GT750A in red, had this Custom painted after a couple of years, and came off it in the wet, a dog ran out in front of me, this put me off bikes for a while, bought a bond bug, then returned to bikes many years later, after the kids got older, great memories!!
At 20 years old, I had a summer job in Genk, Belgium. I bought a used GT380 as it was all I could find. Rode it to work and toured on weekends. I loved that 380. It did burn a lot of gas. The highlight was riding up the coast of Croatia in AUG 1980 without a helmet and some Purple sunglasses. So alive that summer! I hope to return.
Super cool. We did not play with the Suzuki 2 strokes......Friend had multiple working Kawi 2 strokes...250,350,400,500 and 750''s. We rode them in 80's and 90's. Still kickin'
Owned two Suzuki Titan 500cc two stroke twins and they where very reliable bikes, eventually moved on to the 4 strokes when California cops started writing tickets for smoke. They really only smoked when cold and did not smoke at normal operating temperatures. My first Titan had a drum front brake and got the next year when they hand a disk brake, a lot better. Many miles on those two and would like to have another. But, my first bike was a Suzuki 1965 T-10 250cc twin and had to mix the oil with the gas. Always carried a bottle of oil. I was in the USAF then and it was a blast to ride.
I worked at a Yamaha dealer in Sydney Australia. That is a cool RD with all the mods. The 380 is a hoot. I owned a lot of the 250 hustlersT20 onwards. H2 's are to be respected. Love to have ridden a Gamma. That was the pinnacle of Grand Prix bikes for the road. Before the GIXers came.
My mate’s GT380 was smooth, refined and quick compared to the CB350 I owned back in the day. A lot of folks preferred the throb of the four stroke twin, but I did enjoy the cackle of the two stroke triple. The smoke and smell, not so muc!
I had a 1977 in the mid 80s, great bike as an illegal riding 16 year old! Good times. Wouldn't want one today though, prefer a 90s 4 stroke for ease and reliability.
1972 Kawasaki H2 Mach IV for me, any day of the week!!! I had a 1975 RD-350B which I hated. My friend's 1975 GT-380 was a much better motorcycle, except for the lack of folding pegs which made cornering more of a thrill than it needed to be (I ground the feelers right off the pegs of the Yamaha).
Stock exhaust sounds better , those after market chambers would make more power but don't sound the same at all , a friend in high school got a 380 for his 16 birthday and this was Fla. you got your lisc. at 15 then so he had been riding a bike to school for a yr an we rode to school all the time together he lived around the corner , anyway somebody pulled out in front of him an put him in a wheelchair not sure if it was for life that was a long time ago . nice bikes in the day for a kid
I had a bike like in the begining but I had a GT500. I was 16 and got it for free. Cleaned the points and got it running. First time on it, it got in the power band like a good two stroke does and launched away from me. Sold it for 500 :D I couldn't pick it up :D Too heavy! Went to a dr650 after that! Didn't do much better :D
I have always wanted to ride a 2-stroke streetbike after riding 2S dirtbikes. Thtat's one sweet scoot! Great vid sir! In other news, in the 80s we were gonna freeze to death acoording to the "experts". In the 2000s we're all gonna melt. In my 45 years nothing has changed except when the gub'ment manipulates the weather. Operation Popeye amongst others. Don't get me started on Operations Seaspray and Mongoose and the evil behind those... 😠
I miss my 1972 GT550 Aztec Gold rode it over 47'000 miles gave it to my step son he sold it for $ 100.00 dollars i was crushed bought it in the 11 grade I Grew Up on that Bike ! $825.00 New
Great bike, your step son didn’t have the passion for this bike as you did, Gt 550 certainly did have the grunt, the 380 and 550 were certainly my favourite 2 strokes.
AS A 2STROKE AND SUZUKI GUY I WOULD ARGUE KEVIN HUTCHINSON'S GT750 IS MUCH COOLER. I'M SURE THERE'S MORE. I OWN AN H2 BECAUSE OF THE PRICE DIFFERENCE, COOL ENOUGH?
Ah,my neigbor had one once back in the 90s parked outside and sometimes when i parked my rd350ypvs my front wheel ..touched the suzuki and drop it to the ground by mistake in the dark..this happened many many times😂😂😂 my neighbor was an elder and didthn care...
one day ill get a old air cooled or liquid liquid cool smoker for the street...ill have to deal with a billet cased 380cc trx 250r..my buddy has a gt750. Klotz is the worst stuff lol 927 caster right behind.
All you old strokers out there the best oil for these old girls Is castrol A747 non synthetic !!! The triples love it !!! & It burns lean in those pots !!!
GT380 was my very first street bike. Traded a bag of weed for it back in 1991 to a friend who couldn't keep it running right. I fixed everything in a week and rode that bike for two more years before I sold it. It was blue like the one in this vid.
@gcartwright1720 yep... when I went to the local yamaha dealer to buy it. Most of the time, I could score some from the Speedway gas stations local to me. Back then, they carried two-stroke premix oil on the shelf regularly.
2 strokes idling are ok but other than that I'm find the racket annoying. After having a handful of 2 stokes I guess I've outgrown that aspect of them. My RZ500 was an interesting ride.
My buddy Veron, bought a new GT380 in 1974 Looked just like this one. Rode it to High school it was a very fast and powerful bike, back in the day !
I ride a friend's GT 380 once.
It was the smoothest bike I ever rode - no vibration at all.
RG500....handles better, stops better, looks better, it's water cooled I want one! 76 rd400 was my first street bike, miss it.

I like the ram air on that 380. I had one back in the day. I still have a H1 with chambers. Nothing like a triple two stroke.

I have a 1973 Suzuki GT250 twin. I would love to put expansion chambers on it. I have stock quiet mufflers on it.
Smells beautiful

I purchased a new maroon-colored GT380 as a kid, awesome bike. Love to get another for 2nd childhood.

As penniless kids we would often use veg oil from the kitchen, surely better than nothing.....in those circumstances, oil is oil I guess!
AS A 2STROKE AND SUZUKI GUY I WOULD ARGUE KEVIN HUTCHINSON'S GT750 IS MUCH COOLER. I'M SURE THERE'S MORE. I OWN AN H2 BECAUSE OF THE PRICE DIFFERENCE, COOL ENOUGH?
