  • Jesus suffered a gruesome death on the cross. Not only that, but the majority of his followers abandoned Him in His greatest hour of need. In this message we examine the Roman practice of crucifixion, and what Jesus must have felt as He paid the atoning sacrifice to save us from our sins.
This teaching is from our series 43 John - 2016 with Skip Heitzig from Calvary Albuquerque.

Pastor Skip you are by far my favorite teacher of the Bible. For years I would read it or portions of it rather and would always feel lost and didn't understand it. Now I can read a chapter and watch a study and it is so helpful. Thank you for helping me with my walk with Christ. Also I've been having terrible anxiety for the first time in decades. But I must say hearing the promises of my God help a great deal. But I would appreciate prayers should you get time. 🙏 thank you.

When Jesus said to John behold your mother, that means she did not have any children other than Jesus. She was always a virgin.

Thanks for this wonderful teaching, which helped me a lot while studying the book of John. I have a bit of difficult grasping the timeline of the last day, though. I would appreciate elaboration of John 19:14 - some translations state that the time is about noon (I understand that this is midday). Thanks and bless you!

One more thing is that when Jesus said my god my god why you forsaken me, he was praying psalm 22, where there are a description to his crucifixion there, also to lead and start announcing the beginning of the prayer hour because it was the time of the ninth hour,

Also it might be accurate to say that he meant that God or his divinity didn’t help his humanity during his crucifixion agony, it was not staged.

    Note to Pastor Heitzig.
You are one of the highly educated on many topic specially the Bible. I have been listening to you for a couple of years.
Just a correction: I am from Iran. I do understand that Americans pronounce Iran - I ran. The correct pronunciation is Eeran. With your wealth of knowledge please correct this little error .
    God bless you dear brother!

If we don’t have to practice the crucifixion why St. Paul said to crucify the flesh Galatians 5:24?? In same like losing our lives to find it in him Matthew 10:39

Orthodox Christians tradition teaches that after Saint Mary died her body was taken to heaven, again Thomas was not there at the time she died but in his way back to Jerusalem he saw her body with the angels going up to heaven so when he met the disciples and they told him that st. Mary died, he refused to believe again then they took him to the grave and found no body so they were afraid and sad then St. Thomas told them what he saw in his way back, sh they prayed to see in a vision what he said and fasted for that to happen for 15 days, what we call now St. Mary’s fast to this day, then they all saw that vision. That is why her body is not found anywhere!!

Ridiculous to claim the cross came from the Persians, when it came from the pagan god of Tammuz. Tammuz is even mentioned in the book of Ezekiel.
