And instead look at it as a refreshing take on what being human does mean, should mean, and can mean....specifically related to gender and sexuality, as those are so deeply primary, but also to....ya know, everything else too. Anyway, like you said....it's refreshing to hear/see a trans perspective coming from this burnt-out rural southern evangelical perspective. I found this song in November 2022, a month after my dad passed and the same month I met the woman of my dreams. She went back to Canada (her homeland) for a few months, I was in rehab. She came back to Australia to see me. I played this every night before my first admission to rehab - with only her in mind. I still do since my first relapse. Unfortunately things didn’t work out between us, but every night I play this before bed - thinking of her.I still do love you and I miss you Ella. I wish you were here, I wish you met my dad and I wish we could’ve made a lot more memories in the the future. Keep your loved ones close people, take the time to appreciate those who have the time for you ❤️ Thank you Ethel for never letting me feel alone.
Love this! When I hear other Gen Xrs say that there isn't any good music out there nowadays, I tell them that they aren't looking in the right places. You and your music are so authentic and honest.

At least 2 thousand of these plays are mine. This has been my favorite song since I first heard it. Every. Single. Day. Over and over and over and over. Every walk. Every bike ride. Every cry. huhh, we actually had this conversation - so basically this sentence happened in a conversation form - with my host brother when i spent a year in a nebraska small town not unlike the town in the video. we were driving pretty aimlessly around town in his car, looking for people to talk to, things to do to spend the time with. this was one of the first times I joined him doing this and i - as an eastern european kid not much after the iron curtain fell - was fascinated with the fact that 16-year-olds there had cars and drove around just for fun where in my country a whole lot of families didn't own a single car and when they did, a lot of them only used it rarely to save the gas-money. i told him, man, this is what kids in my country dream of. he said "people dream of THIS"? of course for him it was the same-old-same-old, doing it the n-th time, meeting up with the same few people as it was a really small town, being bored out of their minds as there was nothing they could - legally - do around town. of course later i got what he was talking about. btw is this a quote from somewhere, or did you just come up with that sentence?
It’s funny that you say this! I was just watching Lana Del Rey Summertime Sadness and it made me think of Ethel Cain Crush, and now I’ve just read your comment 😊

i’ve never encountered a piece of media that so flawlessly encapsulates the feeling of developing a crush on someone. until this song. it’s lyrically, visually, and sonically perfect. it illicits feelings within me that are simply too powerful and complex to fully articulate. it makes me wanna scream and cry but also lie on the cold tiles of the bathroom floor in silence. i think the line ‘good men die too so id rather be with you’ will linger in my mind forever. thank you, ethel cain.

Love this unconditionally, I hope she gets the recognition she deserves. Crush is sultry, languid and mesmerizing. I was fascinated to find out that anhedonia (no umlaut) is a medical condition whereby someone is incapable of feeling pleasure. Hope it isn't a case of nominative determinism.
From what I've read its more like a symptom of other conditions, at least usually. In the case of this video if I'm interpreting it right, it's because someone died? So trauma from mourning someone I think

great video. i respect the effort that went into the production of this. you can tell they put their heart into it. i like the simplicity of the video and of course the nostalgic/retro mood and aesthetics. the lyrics are pretty good and yes of course the the two girls are gorgeous.
I think it's the realism in this that's so attractive. Love the twist. I thought she was going to a wedding or something. The song itself, like the whole video, doesn't sound formulated like it was trying to be a hit. It's just great creative music. Pretty awesome. I'm straight and cis....but have WAY more in common with someone like Ethel....than the majority of other straight cis guys. In other words....it would be cool if we could stop talking about the trans issue as something to be "tolerated" as if we're just putting up with it or allowing it.
As a very liberal person myself, living in a relatively small town in the foothills of the Appalachians in Tennessee....it's honestly really cool to find someone so creative who didn't grow up in some big city coastal secular world. All that's great too....but so is this.
Rant....over, for now :P
I found out through this comment that’s she’s trans! Hell yeah love to support artists in our community
Feels very much like hick Midwest towns where I grew up, and I’m living for it.
very much this. tbh triggered but at the same time entranced by the false nostalgia this video is giving me. i'm from central pa lol

Keep your loved ones close people, take the time to appreciate those who have the time for you ❤️ Thank you Ethel for never letting me feel
alone.
you'll make it brother . . we are all here, you have to find us x
I love the bass tone, the effects on the voice and the way the drums lay back on the whole thing. Gorgeous song.
Love this! When I hear other Gen Xrs say that there isn't any good music out there nowadays, I tell them that they aren't looking in the right places. You and your music are so authentic and honest.
We have Ethel Cain, daine, Caroline Polachek, and all sorts of magical musicians! They’re just not bothering to look.
Gen Xrs are biased and stuck in a different time. Their obsessive nostalgia for their youth in the 80s and 90s blinds them to everything that has happened since.

Um... Because it's a fucking banger.
At least 2 thousand of these plays are mine. This has been my favorite song since I first heard it. Every. Single. Day. Over and over and over and over. Every walk. Every bike ride. Every cry. Every happy moment. Life's been crazy, but this song has been keeping my head above water and smiling. Perfection.
And, another 2000+ plays are from me. 🌸
This was an art piece. It made me feel like nostalgic for home
One can easily move their body while listening to this song. Ethel Cain embodies all that is ecstasy. This isn't the song that will send you to sleep but this is the kinda song that will bring you back from it and become formidable in the face of world. I am so present in the moment whenever I am listening to her songs.
In our despair born from boredom, we were unaware that our life of monotony was in reality the golden age of our era.
Holy crap this literally is everything I've wanted to say, you nailed it 100 percent on the head
The beauty within the truth that we let slip away unsavored, unrelished. Thank you for that reminder to live!
huhh, we actually had this conversation - so basically this sentence happened in a conversation form - with my host brother when i spent a year in a nebraska small town not unlike the town in the video. we were driving pretty aimlessly around town in his car, looking for people to talk to, things to do to spend the time with. this was one of the first times I joined him doing this and i - as an eastern european kid not much after the iron curtain fell - was fascinated with the fact that 16-year-olds there had cars and drove around just for fun where in my country a whole lot of families didn't own a single car and when they did, a lot of them only used it rarely to save the gas-money. i told him, man, this is what kids in my country dream of. he said "people dream of THIS"? of course for him it was the same-old-same-old, doing it the n-th time, meeting up with the same few people as it was a really small town, being bored out of their minds as there was nothing they could - legally - do around town. of course later i got what he was talking about. btw is this a quote from somewhere, or did you just come up with that sentence?

i’ve never encountered a piece of media that so flawlessly encapsulates the feeling of developing a crush on someone. until this song.
it’s lyrically, visually, and sonically perfect. it illicits feelings within me that are simply too powerful and complex to fully articulate. it makes me wanna scream and cry but also lie on the cold tiles of the bathroom floor in silence.
i think the line ‘good men die too so id rather be with you’ will linger in my mind forever.
thank you, ethel cain.

I grew up in a small Southern California town and it really does feel like the wild west out here, Ethel's music helps bring me to a place where I can find beauty in my small southwestern town
@@leilanidrennan1767 According to most sources, it's her birth name. Hayden Silas Anhedönia. There's no affection as far as I can tell. You're right to say that it's associated with other conditions, though.

Her voice stuck in my heart 💙
His window's already passed
So he's shooting at the glass
Keeping guns in his locker
And he denies it
Like it's actually important
But he lied 'cause I sure did watch him
Showing up wearing black
And he knows that
His daddy's on death row
But he'll say it with his chest, though
His friends move dope
He hasn't tried coke
But he's always had a problem saying no
His older brother bagged the valedictorian
His mother steady screaming he should be more like him
Can you read my mind? I've been watching you
(You know it, you know it, you know it, you know it's true)
Couldn't fight to save your life, but you look so cool
Camo jacket robbing corner stores
Hard odds to beat when you're on all fours
Good men die too so I'd rather be with you, you, you
I owe you a black eye and two kisses
Tell me when you wanna come and get 'em
I only want him if he says it first to me
I wanna run him in the back of his mom's mercury
He looks like he works with his hands
And smells like Marlboro Reds
It makes me so, uh, and I can't get enough of it
Something's been feeling weird lately
There's just something about you, baby
(There's just something about you baby)
Maybe I'll just be crazy
(I'll be crazy)
And piss him off 'til he hates me
Low slung bad bitch, baby, come and get you some
Can you read my mind? I've been watching you
Couldn't fight to save your life, but you look so cool
(You know it, you know it, you know)
Camo jacket robbing corner stores
Hard odds to beat when you're on all fours
Good men die too so I'd rather be with you, you, you
Oh, I'd rather be with you
Oh, I'd rather be with you
'Cause good men die too
So I'd rather be with you

My favorite song, omg! Unbelievable swirl of your vocals and everything at the end, can't get enough playing it on guitar.
I think it's the realism in this that's so attractive. Love the twist. I thought she was going to a wedding or something. The song itself, like the whole video, doesn't sound formulated like it was trying to be a hit. It's just great creative music. Pretty awesome. Wish the camera could have been more steady but I guess it kind of fit. Like it was being recorded that day by a phone or something.
The way she looks back at Jesus with complete disdain is priceless!
It fit perfectly with the "piss him off till he hates me" lyric
