    Just make a loop on one end of 150 m rope, stuck the hook into the loop n slide down to 100 m ledge, shook the rope n the loop will hop out of the hook since no weight is hangin' on it, now stuck the loop in the 100 m hook and slide down. Also their are few knots which are tight when weight is hanging on it and becomes loose as it slacks.
    Fun fact: It can be done without knife and without that extra 50 m long rope

      Tie off and cut off the excess and climb back up the rope and tie the remaining piece at the top- than, untying the hundred foot length, and climbing down the 50-foot rope, with The Hundred-Foot rope end, over my shoulder
      Than tying the hundred foot length into a loop, at the bottom of the 50 foot length, and then climbing down both hundred foot length halfs..
      And just pulling the excess, untied end through the hook loop I made in the bottom of the 50 foot / leftover rope.
      No measuring involved at all..!

    There is a knot called a sheepshank used in sailing and mountaineering where you can tie the knot and cut the central strand. As long as the rope is under tension it won't slip. When you reach the landing, a flip of the rope will release the tension and the rope will fall down. You will only lose about a foot of rope that will remain tied to the first hook. Repeat the procedure and you can reach the ground and walk away with approximately 148 feet of rope.

      You'll be left hanging 30m above the first ledge by the time you've lowered yourself as far down as you can and come to the end of the rope. What you're doing is just doubling over the rope, so you can only reach 70m down

    Your technique was very good and smart, also I had another idea how to get down with the rope even without the knife. First knot the rope on 1st hook, climb down to the second hook, hook the rope at the 100m length, climb up again to first hook, unknot the rope at the 1st hook and then just jump with the rope to the ground, you should be near the ground hmm. What do you think about this idea? But yes your idea was way more smarter

    You could also use the knife as an anchor on one end of the rope so it wont pass through your hook. Then lower yourself to the lower ledge. Then simply let go of the rope and the weight of the knife will pull the rope back through the hook. Then repeat to get down from second step. Its also faster in the event of an emergency rather than trying to measure exact lengths of rope to cut.

    Unravel the rope and then weave the fibers into a parachute. The knife will be useful with cutting the fibers to length and for making the final hems nice and clean.
    .
    Anyways, I came up with the stated answer, but it was a good 7-minute head scratcher!
    .
    Careful sizing of the loop in the upper line, and placement of a stopper knot in the 100-meter loop can make descent of the 100-meter loop somewhat safer. The idea is to prevent slippage of the 100-meter loop during downclimbing because it would be difficult to load both sides of the loop equally during the entire descent. The climber could favor the unstoppered side when they get tired, and tie a non-jamming knot between the strands to sit/stand and rest for a bit. Even with careful attention, the plan is very dubious considering the risks of fatigue and rope wear.

    Option 2, tie a 1-2 foot long loop in the top of the rope at the hook. Go down to mid ledge. Snap rope till it unhooks itself. Loop into second hook and continue down. This has the added benefit of allowing you to knot the rop itself to make it much easier to climb down without slipping and dying.

  • @MasterBasher100
    @MasterBasher100 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Just dangle the rope each side of the hook and wrap the rope around it self to prevent movement of the rope, And because the rope is 50m longer than needed when it is wrapped around it self it will most likely turn into a 100m long rope. Then when you are at the second layer unwrap the rope and just pull one side down and you still have a full length rope. then rinse and repeat as much as needed.
    _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
    This method has 2 advantages abouve the one showed in the video. First off keeping the rope integrity intact allowing for a much more controlled descent. Second you can scale down a mutch higher building.
    _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
    Also a small plot hole in this demo's design if I got to that second floor I would just use the knife to break a window open and save myself in the process, then I could safely decently the building from the inside and do the same too another window on a lower level to make my escape.

    You should remove "safely" from the puzzle. Climbing down with a double rope through a loop doesn't feel very safe. You will have to hold both ropes of the double rope very tight or it will just slide through the loop and you will fall down for the remaining length of the rope.

  • @alekosipov
    @alekosipov 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    My idea was to tie the rope around the the knife, then put knife inside the hook (1st problem with my logic is that the hook needs to be smaller than the length of knife), then you create tension on the rope so knife is stuck in the hook (think of a grappling hook), descend down the rope, then lose tension on the rope and let the rope fall down under the weight of knife >< hahaha you need to catch and repeat the process to get down from second hook.. 2nd problem with my solution is that you need to catch rope with the knife falling onto you from 50 meters lol.

    tie a loop at one end of the rope. put your foot in it and sling the rope over the hook... keep constant pressure and release slowly giving more and more slack as you slowly make it down. Then when on the ledge just pull the rope through and repeat. If you can climb down the rope you will have the muscle strength to do this as its the same amount of effort. no need to damage the rope at all.

  • @MrMousley
    @MrMousley ปีที่แล้ว

    I've had a think and come up with this .. I'll look at your solution after I've given you mine.
    You have a knife so that means that you can cut the rope.
    The rope is 150m ... and you need to do 100m twice.
    So ..
    Cut the rope into 100m and 50m.
    Tie a small loop to one end of the 50m rope and tread the 100m rope 'half way' through it.
    This will give you a 100m rope .. the bottom 'half' being a 'double rope'.
    Climb down half way and attach one end of the 'folded' 100m rope to the hook
    Then pull the 100m rope free of the 50m rope.
    You now have the 100m you need to get to the ground.
    EDIT
    Forgot to mention .. You don't have a tape measure
    so to get 100m and 50m you lay the rope out and 'fold it' into 3.

      You don't really need to. You would need 3 double figure 8 knots in total, which each take about half a meter of rope, leaving you 1.5 meters short of the ground which should be enough to get down without even having to jump.

    It's ambiguous which way up the hooks are. If they were the other way up you could abseil down then simply pull the rope off the hook. That way you only have to rely on the one knot for the loop at the top and have around 50 m of rope to play with to make yourself secure while abseiling.
