Bead Sprite Printer V2

  • This machine is an upgrade to the one I built 2 years ago (see • Bead Sprite Printer ). I wanted something faster, larger and more reliable then the previous build. Was also interested in changing how the beads were placed, rather than placing row by row (v1), I decided to place color by color instead. A few comparison stats...
    Bead Machine V1
    Beads/minute : ~10
    Largest Size : 32x32 (1,024)
    Total Colors : 64
    Bead Machine V2
    Beads/minute : ~20
    Largest Size : 100x100 (10,000)
    Total Colors : 38
Source files (sorry, its pretty messy right now):
    Firmware + Software : github.com/Che...
CAD : TBD (let me know in comments if you know a good sharing platform for this)
    More Details:
Total project time was about 3 months (Jan 2021 - April 2021)
Base used to be a cnc machine (BobsCNC Evolution 4)
One big change was moving from an all in one setup (v1), to 3 separate stations (bead refiller, pick/place machine, fuser). The reason I separated the bead refiller was that it was extremely loud in v1, caused vibrations throughout the machine, beads would also occasionally get stuck. So having this run separately and only when I needed it was a huge benefit. The fusing system was originally part of the pick/place machine but it was hard to keep the bed leveled (needed some level detection hw). Also, when fusing large pieces, the plastic smell was pretty bad and probably not too healthy. I moved the piece to a filtered tent in the garage for these reasons

This is amazing! Do you ever plan on sharing your schematics or program so people can build their own? Even your version 1 is amazing

Really love your solutions for taking messy beads and controlling them so precisely. Do you have an Etsy shop or something to sell your works of art?

Hey Knezuld, this is awesome, wow! 🤩You said you are trying to find a good way to share the CAD files, I would love to try at least the bead placer if not all of it on my own, could you please share your files? Have you thought about something like thingyverse? Cheers!

    This is fantastic!
I've commented on the older videos. I'm STILL trying to find a solution! Years later! I'm trying to decorate a full-size 4-player arcade cabinet with bead sprites, but hand-made sprites are hundreds of dollars PER SPRITE every where my cabinet builder and I have looked! It would cost me over $10,000 just to decorate my cabinet. Someone needs to build one of these machines and offer it for hire.
As it stands, my cabinet builder has been learning how to program 3D printers, so he can 3D-print the bead sprites, THEN paint them by hand. Again, we tried to hire a 3D printer programmer, but they wanted waaaay too much PER SPRITE. They wouldn't just give us a reasonable price for the entire cabinet.
I really need someone with this machine to offer it for hire...

Looks funny. But it took very long. Need to optimize Speed. Also 1250 beads as storage is not much. I do portraits quicker.
