From what I have been hearing about his attitude, wanting guarantees for spot on the roster and playing time, Hughes needs to stay far away from this player.
He's a nobody, and has done nothing to warrant making any demands

I agree, everything I hear about McGroarty is just speculation. This kid hasn't prove anything yet and the Jets are asking way too much. Jordan Harris has 131 NHL games under his belt with a differential of -5 with a bottom tier team like the Habs. Adding Mesar or the pick should be more than enough.

MAYBE - but when a player makes a public statement that he wants "OUT"....the less likely his team is going to receive even equal compensation in return on a trade basis (especially for an unproven player) - just a fact of such a matter

@@LockedOnJetsNHL He did well with PLD. This might be more of the same, but this time with a PLD 2.0 who hasn't even played an NHL game yet. He should get the Jets some solid assets, but probably not from Montreal. There are too many other options for the Habs top six at play elsewhere to take a chance on someone with an attitude that you are unsure of. The Jets could address this by giving any interested teams permission to talk to the kid.

Oh, the whole thing is that Rutger's camp has to okay the destination and confirm he'd sign with the team before the trade goes through. They're definitely doing that last part. No one is trading for him if they don't have a commitment to sign.

Not particularly! Harris could be interesting, but they're both in the 5/6D range. Winnipeg already has better blueliners in their system. Mesar would be the most interesting piece there and he hasn't quite taken the step forward yet you'd be looking for.

Here's the the thing, though. The kid appears to be doing a pretty good job of trying to decrease his market value. Maybe Montreal can give him the power play time and top-six role he seems to think he should walk into after the trade. But not many teams other than Montreal are in that position...and perhaps not even Montreal at this stage of its rebuild. There may be a bigger and better deal out there. But there's also a reasonable chance that the return for the Jets might end up being less than what the Habs offered here.

I feel like he'd be a really good fit in Detroit. His whole trackable hockey career has been in Michigan..
To Detroit - Rutger Mcgroarty // To Winnipeg - Joe Veleno, Jakub Rychlovský, Anton Johansson, 2025 3rd
Feel like it would be pretty fair, Rychlovsky was czech league top scorer at 22. Anton was on WJC team for sweden and had 4p in 7 SHL playoffs games 6'4 skates well, solid defensively and is only 20. Veleno young solid bottom 6 player. Could make the third a second. Good luck with that. Habs offered too much for him IMHO, not worth the package they offered. The package they offered wouldn't get a trade done for either Zegras or Necas, neither of those 2 teams are going to trade them straight up 1 for 1 for McGroarty.

This is the perfect example of fans overvaluing their team's players/prospects. I see some Habs fans saying this package would be overpay for RM, but if the CGY/FLA pick ends up being FLA picks and so probably late first then IMO it wouldn't be overpaying. But saying that Jets should get a pick around 14-15 + B prospect + B player for RM, who was picked 14 overall 2 years ago and as for as I understand isn't now someone who most people think should have gone significantly higher and who asked to be traded which means his value actually decreased. Thinking that the Jets should get such a huge return is insane. Just look at what Buffalo got for Matt Savoie, who was picked higher than RM the same year and didn't ask to be traded, sure Buffalo probably should've gotten more but still I don't see why RM should bring more.

Jordan Harris is a solid two way defenseman who just turned 24, he is not flashy but almost always makes the right play, he will probably top out at a 3 or 4 dman with a floor of 5 or 6. Barron has higher upside but plays a completely different game, he is more of a high risk high reward type player and tends to have defensive gaffs.
Mesar has some interesting potential, he has struggled with the NA ice but has shown flashes of a top 6 forward.
So the Jets turned down a right now 5 or 6 Dman with potential for 3 or 4, a potential top 6 forward who has shown flashes of being very good, and a 20 to 32 first round draft pick. All for a forward who is a diva, has shown nothing to warrant this type of return and doesn't really fit the culture in montreal. Personally I am happy this trade did not happen.

Habs should avoid McGroarty drafted #14 in 2022 because of his attitude. Owen Beck also drafted in 2022 #33 is already superior to McGroarty, who is overrated.
Habs have a similar player in Joshua Roy 6'0'', 190lbs, drafted in 2021 shoots left also and is garanteed great 3rd line or good 2nd line left wing and has bigger potential than McGroarty and Roy loves Mtl.
I would play Mesar in Laval next season in top6 and trade him for 2025 2nd round pick.
I would trade Jordan Harris for 2nd or 3rd round pick 2025.
I would trade both of those 2nd picks for a 1st round pick 2025.
Since Habs won't make won't make the playoffs next season 24-25, if Armia and Dvorak are health, I would trade them for 2nd or 3rd round picks in 2025. And then I would trade also trade both of these picks for 1 pick in 1st round if possible.
