Ive always been curious how the blueing process differs with that shiny deep blueing. Do you know? Deep blueing seems to be more corrosion resistant in my experience too.
I bought a new 870 Fieldmaster 20 gauge specifically for upland game hunting this year, I can tell you the fit and finish is one of the best I’ve seen in a LONG time on anything under $2,000. It reminds me of a Winchester model 70 I really wanted like 14 years ago but I didn’t have the money at the time. It’s very nicely done, but not polished shiny blue like a browning that you don’t even want to get fingerprints on because you can see them from space, no this gun wants to put meat on your table, but there’s nothing that you have to rationalize a justification, excuse or apology for. Like when you buy some guns and your like “well this or that isn’t perfect but that’s okay cause it’s going to get beaten up in the field anyway”, you don’t have to do that with this gun. I’ll tell you I almost bought another Mossberg 500, but after handling the 870 it actually fit me personally better and I much preferred the aesthetics of it, the Mossberg forend looked and felt like a 4x6, and I almost made the excuse “that’s okay cause I know it’ll function fine for what I’ll be using it for”, but I thought this one time, I’m going to spend $100 more and get the gun I REALLY like and I don’t have to make excuses for, and after taking it out in the field, I think it’s a bargain at only $100 more than a Mossberg. Again, not that the Mossberg won’t function fine and everything, but I’ve now owned both a Mossberg 500 and a Remington 870 Fieldmaster at different times, the Remington didn’t cut up my thumb from loading it all day, the actual was much slicker, the whole gun was just smoother and more intuitive for me. I’m actually glad I bought one when I did, because I put these more in the category of a Browning BPS and I think their price is going to go up shortly. Part of the reason I almost got a Mossberg even though I didn’t like it as well was because there is a LOT of negative press in the gun world regarding Remington quality right now, even the salesman at another store told me “I wouldn’t buy a Remington right now”, fortunately I’ve been part of the gun community long enough and I’ve owned and shot firearms long enough I can usually take what people are saying with a grain of salt and form my own conclusions, and times like this certainly make me appreciate that I don’t just take people word for it.
I got the 12 gauge model with the 26” barrel and I’d say they’re back to making quality shotguns! This field master is a lot better finish than the express I know that! The wood is pretty and she runs smooth 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
Purchased a 20 gauge fieldmaster yesterday at rural king. Everything on it is perfect. Action is slick as snot. I wanted a 26" barrel on the 20 gauge but they were clearancing the 28" version and it was 429 vs 499 (for the 26") so I just took the 28" barrel instead of the 26. With the 70 bucks I saved, I put the money towards more ammo and a soft case. Very pleased so far. It's no wingmaster but it is definitely an upgrade to the express models.
The 870 is an icon in the shotgunning world. Remington management has realized they need to emphasize quality over engaging in price competition with imports from third-world country. Best to them.
Just purchased mine 3 days ago. Saw it on the shelf and thought, I haven’t seen one in a few years on shelves. Bought it without question. 12 gauge field master 28”

Very happy to see Remington coming back from the grave. I bought an Express back in the 90's. Have always loved it. Bought a second one around 2007. Slight quality drop. Had to take some sandpaper to it to get it to eject properly, but it runs great now. I did notice the trigger guard on the older one is metal, and the newer one is plastic. Thought that was interesting. Bought a 700 in the 90's as well in 30-06. They all take deer quite well. The Fieldmaster in the video looks very nice. Something to recommend to a younger generation. Local box store has them on sale for $459.99. That's what got me interested in who's making Remington now. Again, really nice to see a positive review.
wow this is great to see I got my wing master 1973 and still own got it for 8th grade graduation the fit and finish was beautiful nice to see its back my kids know the 870 goes in the box with Dad
Just purchased 12 ga. Fieldmaster. Compares favorably with '71 wingmaster I have, the checkering is even better on new gun Fit and finish very good at this price point, slide action buttery out of the box. Forearm snug, no wobble. Hats off to RemArms!

That was my father's first gun. Bought second hand and gifted to him. It was his family's only source of meat for long periods of time. A lot of responsibility to lay on a boy's shoulders. But the Remington 510 loaded with shorts (they were cheaper than long rifle back then) did it's part.

Just got my new 870 Fieldmaster super mag. Saw good reviews and wanted to buy a new 870 that was well made like the older ones.. Action was very smooth out of the box and the gun is beautifully made. Nice furniture and glass bead finish. Haven't been to the range with it yet, but the gun cycled snap-caps flawlessly and I see no reason while it won't perform with real ammo.
It's nice to find real Remington... The 870 is the best pump shotgun of all time, I have a 1975 Wingmaster, a 1979 Police Wingmaster and a 1989 Police Magnum and the build quality is just incredible. I'm thinking of buying the new Field Master for 28" barrel hunting if the manufacturing quality is good again. because my 3 Remington 870s are in 18" and 20" barrels
I have been shooting 870s in virtually all forms for the last 50 years I shot an 870 Comp for one of my trap guns shooting 12K rounds a year with that gun, they are also very predictable in when parts are going to be needed, firing pins, the receiver is good for around 450K rounds then the stretch starts to show in the lockup. I shot some very high end trap shoots in both FL and AZ and of course all through the midwest and it always made me proud to have my Comp in the gun rack and there wasnt a gun in the rack that wasnt 15K or many much higher and my 870 Comp. Anybody with the big Italian name guns were always my target and I very seldom lost to them! I have owned many many shotguns over the years some very expensive doubles and un-singles etc. but in the end if I had to only pick ONE to see me through whatever it would be an 870!
I have purchased two of these since they reintroduced them. I am very happy with the quality, detail, and functionality. Could have saved 150 going the Turkish route but you all better get these USA made guns while you can. Your kids and grandkids will thank you!

Oh yeah....I remember seeing Wingmasters and Model 1100s everywhere as a kid......K Mart, Richway, White Auto, Western Auto, even Ace Hardware. Remington was a division of Dupont and there was no real competition above or below....but times changed and Big Green was slow to. I worked for K Mart in 1986 and by then, all the blued steel and shine was gone. We sold 870 Express pumps and matte finish 1100s with black synthetic stocks.
Funnily enough I have an 870 express that I got as a gift when I turned 18 back in 2014. A few years ago I changed the plastic stock and forearm out for a wooden set that looks just like that. The guns look pretty much the same
I bought a 870 Wingmaster with a 30" fixed full choke barrel in 2 3/4" chamber back in 1981/82 before the days of steel shot for waterfowling. It has held up wonderfully over the last 40 years and has been used extensively for Doves in the rice fields & brackish marshes of S.E. Texas for Ducks. Durable as a block of concrete. The blueing has suffered a bit as a result of being carried into the marshes as everything within a few miles of the surf is coated in salt. My son & nephew carry 870's today though not the Wingmaster (I suspect they are express models) after trying cheaper shotguns from other makers that did not hold up to the rigors of waterfowling. If the Fieldmaster even comes close to the quality of the Wingmaster I would recommend it to any serious waterfowler.
Ok this was helpful. I was concerned. I had an old one that was an amazing gun but was stolen. That gun went thru hell in the hands of a young man. This will be a present for my son for his 18th bday just like it was for me. This should be another great gun. Sad it went to crap there for awhile but seems they got it together again!
Just picked up the new 870 fieldmaster and this thing is awesome. I ordered an 18 1/2” barrel for it for home defense. I’ve been wanting a gun I could switch out barrels for home and hunting and this seems to be great quality so far and solid.
I really like this, I’ve always been a 870 fan. I own 4 of these. 2 wingmaster 1 magnum 1 express. I wish they would have engraved fieldmaster after Remington 870 and blued the steel.
I bought the synthetic version yesterday. Someone traded it in new unfired. For $300 out the door , I couldn't pass it up. I was going to get the Winchester sxp which was the same price, but this one felt so much better to me. The fit and finish is excellent and the action is buttery smooth as others have stated. Also the synthetic stock doesn't feel cheap like the express use to.

A quality, well finished and built Wingmaster will be appreciated. Be sure to include the .410 on the smaller frame!
On their homepage they have a .410 Wingmaster.
I would love to get a brand new wingmaster built with the same quality as the 20g I had back in 1978.
It looks quite nice! Thanks, David!
How’s she holding up? I just got the 12 gauge one a few months ago and I’d say they’re back making good shotguns
How’s it holding up? I just picked one up myself. Seems like a better build than my express. Any feedback would be great
I grew up with my father being a gunsmith. Remington firearms was his choice for a good reason back then. I hope these a actions now will return my thoughts back to what my family loved
I wish Remmy all the best, this is a step in the right direction.
wow this is great to see I got my wing master 1973 and still own got it for 8th grade graduation the fit and finish was beautiful nice to see its back my kids know the 870 goes in the box with Dad
Sounds like Remington reached out to you sent you a gun and a check to gove a great review
Just purchased 12 ga. Fieldmaster. Compares favorably with '71 wingmaster I have, the checkering is even better on new gun Fit and finish very good at this price point, slide action buttery out of the box. Forearm snug, no wobble. Hats off to RemArms!
I just got the field master as shown in this video and I’d say they’re back to
Making quality shotguns 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸 I love 870s! This is my do all shotguns! Home defense, turkey hunting, deer hunting! This is a quality firearm and I’m happy I got it for 530$ brand new
This is a dream come true for those of us with "green" blood. If they keep this up, they'll slowly but surely restore the reputation of the company. I want to see the Ilion plant continue on for the sake of tradition. I also hope the new Georgia plant is a huge success. Any time, and in any of the fifty states that high quality guns are being made, is cause for celebration.
I just got this same field master and I tell ya what they’re making good shotguns again 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
@@Gator69420 That's good to hear because I'm planning on getting one soon. I've been holding off just to make sure these new guns are the real deal, but everybody I've seen them are happy. Is your 870 one of the remaining Ilion, NY made guns, or is it one of the new ones made in Georgia?
@@Lex5576 the one I have is NEW YORK
Very nice gun! Everything is tight where the stock meets the receiver, the walnut wood is very nice, the pump is super smooth! I was going to get a 590A1 but the Remington to me was better option due to my hunting needs! I have a mossberg 500 as well and I’d take this 870 over the 500 all day long
WITHOUT A DOUBT THE GREATEST SHOTGUN " EVER " MADE , PERIOD ! ! !
I have a 870 express I purchased in 1990 and to this day still love it 😁
Not everyone has to go for the cheap market. The Fieldmaster in this movie is a nice gun. Keep up the good work. Nice review.
Very nice shotgun! I purchased one a few months back and it’s beautiful and runs smooth! I’d say they’re back to making quality shotguns 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
I bought one for my son last week .Wanted him to have a gun he could pass down to his children some day . I belive i made the right chiose
Still holding up well? Just picked one up
Thanks for the update David!!!
Good review young man !!
Keep up the good work .
Good looking 870 shot gun. Hopefully they will make it in 20 gauge. Thanks for the update
I own a 1974 wingmaster ducks unlimited 870 and a 1981 standard 870 wingmaster. These guns are not only functionally dependable but bueatifiul pieces of work. I just recently bought the 1981 870 in like new condition and will buy these older 870s anyday over the new ones.
I own a few Remingtons. A few 870 and had a old 1970s 1100. My 1100 80s. Looks nice very refined. Good walnut. And I’m sure reliable. ! Keep it in production Americans will buy them. 🇺🇸
I’m just now starting to study shotguns as I need one for home defense. I had a few folks tell me I should use a shotgun rather than my Ruger Security 9. This is one of the firearms in stock at my local gun store which I’m researching. Glad to hear they did a good job with the build quality. I’ll be adding it to my list of shotguns I’m interested in. I appreciate your video!
This is nice like the stock chechering was looking good ! Very nice budget pump enjoyed your review keep it up !!
Great! My only question was about the barrel interchangeability and you answered that as well. I will definitely be looking into one when they hit stores.
I wish I could get a 510 Targermaster. So cool the Remington are still being produced.
Keep an eye on gunbroker I see them occasionally and also I see them on guns America. I Like them as well.
@@mikedillon6233 the rifle looks is so beautiful. Thanks for the suggestion.
That was my father's first gun. Bought second hand and gifted to him.
It was his family's only source of meat for long periods of time. A lot of responsibility to lay on a boy's shoulders. But the Remington 510 loaded with shorts (they were cheaper than long rifle back then) did it's part.
@@robertlemaster7525 I really cherish the craftsmanship put into older rifles. Thank you for sharing your memories of yesteryear.
I just purchased this exact one from the local gun shop. I love it
I've shot roughly 20 slugs thru it. Shoots amazing with no flaws. I also shot 20 00 buckshot 9 pellet and it's just an amazing shotgun!! I'd buy another one just to have a pair of them
How’s she running ? I just got one a few months ago
@@Gator69420 it's running amazing!! No issues!! Just clean it when you're done and not going to use it for a while.
@@randyl6699 awesome
Thanks for the response! I got the field master a few months back and it’s awesome! I think a lot of people don’t take care of their guns so the rust issues some talk about it lack of cleaning 🤷🏼♂️ with this field master I’d say Remington is back to making good shotguns! 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
@@Gator69420 I agree!! I saw a fieldmaster with an 18.5" slug barrel at the local gun store. I have been thinking about getting it.
As a Remington fan I am very excited to see this. Hopefully they do the same with the 700 bolt rifles.
Pretty sure they are suppose to announce a new 700 in a month or 2. I got my wallet ready. It’s the only reason I haven’t bought one of these. Gotta save for it and a new leupold scope lol.
I wish them success it looks like a really nice shotgun I like the non-glare finishes over the old super shiny glossy stuff.
I own a Wingmaster, left hand, bought it in 1956. Came with a modified fixed choke barrel. Bought another barrel in the 1980’s to use screw in chokes. I hate the “Express”. I can’t wait to buy a Fieldmaster in left hand. Thanks Remington.
I would give anything if they’d make this in a 22 inch compact! It would be perfect for us vertically challenged shooters. Beautiful shotgun… welcome back Remington 🇺🇸
Sure you could buy a 22 inch barrel it even just cut your own.. it easy as can be.. Don it a couple times
I switched my 28" barrel with a factory 21" ribbed barrel. Added an Indian Creek choke, &:it makes for a great turkey gun set up.
@@driftlesshunter9200 thank you sir. 🇺🇸
There will be a couple compact versions in 20 gauge
I bought the Fieldmaster compact 20 ga w/21in barrel synthetic stock a couple of weeks back. Comes w/ receiver drilled and tapped and sling swivel studs.
Well I'll tell you one thing it is really really nice to see Remington had stepped up their game very very nice
Just bought this as my first ever gun. Getting my hunting license this year and will be getting a rifle barrel for this as well. Very excited
How’s it holding up? I just snagged one and would love feedback! Rust issues?
@@Grizzlyman420 so far so good. Works great
Nice to see Remington producing quality arms again, fit and finish looks good reminds me of the 1187 Sportsmans Field they were putting out a while ago I hope they bring that one back too as I've been wanting one of them in a 20ga.
I really enjoy your reviews. Keep up the great work.
Be nice to see one with that rich deep bluing of earlier years. They even have a ceracote that matches it pretty close.
I have a 870 express synthetic. I want one of those new fieldmasters, man they look good to me 👍👍
I just picked one up and it’s better quality than my express 🤷♂️
Looking forward to new 700s . Very nice work on the 870
It's like a work of art, beautiful for a common shotgun!!
Nice to see Remington on their way back to Quality of OLD" ';-)
Good ole Remington 🌟🌟
Me So Happy that Remington is on the way up.
If Remington brings back the Wingmaster, I'll purchase it without hesitation! I treasure my older Wingmaster and would love to purchase a new one that I can pass on for many generations!!
Bought one. You have to figure out which shells to use because most won't eject. Sold mine buying a new Mossberg
Just picked up one today, my boy turned 13 said he wants an 870 12ga I was like what’s the express I seen this and was blown away
How’s it holding up? I just snagged one. Seems better quality than my express
@@Grizzlyman420 it’s awesome holding up great
@@thebushbunker awesome! I think it’s a nice build. Doesn’t compared to my wingmaster but definitely better than the standard express. The walnut is very nice and fit/finish is 9/10!
Is the extractor, in the new 870 Fieldmaster, still a MIM part?
Wow! Looks really good. If I see one it will likely come home with me
Thank you for keeping us informed
I've got a 12 guage 870 Wingmaster I bought at JC Penny back in 1970. Paid a little over $100 bucks for it. It's still my favorite shotgun in my collection of ten bought since then.
@@TwoWeekCowboy
Yep!
I own a couple of the synth/matte combination, but I will always love old school blue/walnut in my collection.
That Fieldmaster looks like an Express with walnut, but seems to function a little better.
Funnily enough I have an 870 express that I got as a gift when I turned 18 back in 2014. A few years ago I changed the plastic stock and forearm out for a wooden set that looks just like that. The guns look pretty much the same
I hope they do well. My very old Wingmaster is a top-notch pump gun.
.....NICE !!!!......reminds me of when I was a kid.....in America ! .... hard to tell anymore though !!
Looks sooooo much better than the last few years
I bought a 870 Wingmaster with a 30" fixed full choke barrel in 2 3/4" chamber back in 1981/82 before the days of steel shot for waterfowling.
I love Remington pumps… I have an old .22 lr fieldmaster pump, 270 gamemaster, 870 wingmaster
Your show is great 👍👍👍
Would love to see a nice high end 22 come from old rem someday. I would buy it
I have a lot of fond
memories with this
line of pumps.
I'm glad it survived
Remington's bankruptcy.
Just picked up the new 870 fieldmaster and this thing is awesome. I ordered an 18 1/2” barrel for it for home defense. I’ve been wanting a gun I could switch out barrels for home and hunting and this seems to be great quality so far and solid.
How’s she holding up? I just got one a few months back and I’d say they’re back to making quality shotguns 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
@@Gator69420so far it’s been a great shotgun and the durability is holding up.
@@fightingirish5550 cool thanks for the response! I’ve had no issues with the 870
People complain about rust yet they don’t clean their guns 😂
I have an old one for sure gonna get this good job Remington
Did you end up getting the field master ? Curious as to how she’s holding up
Looks good good to see Remington putting out quality stuff again
I really like this, I’ve always been a 870 fan. I own 4 of these. 2 wingmaster 1 magnum 1 express. I wish they would have engraved fieldmaster after Remington 870 and blued the steel.
Remington model 1100 was a really good shot gun. Id like to see them make a new version.
Looks great!… keep making quality and people will buy.
Looks good! Would love to see them redo the 1100
