Hi Nik, Sweet Honey how lovely I really like the colour it takes on in the colder weather too. It is impressive for a first year rose. I planted a bare root earlier this year and I have been very impressed with it's health and sheer amount of blooms ! We had to rescue a sheep the other week, it had stuck it's head through a metal grid fence and it caught my eye as we drove passed, it just looked oddly positioned. It was well and truly stuck but eventually with some re-shaping of the fence and brute-force ! we managed to free it successfully :)

Yes, I think Sweet Honey looks her best in this autumn/winter weather, judging from this one year anyway. I know what Jay Jay means about it looking unattractive, slightly artificial sometimes early on, but really this glorious late showing when every other rose is struggling to produce anything at all makes her an outstanding rose in my book. The sheep I "rescue" are just so terrified by my approach that, after putting up with being stuck for hours and just bleating pathetically, they decide the pain of tearing themselves free of the briars and brambles or wire is preferable to whatever I might have in mind for them. I decided to go around the edges of the farmer's field cutting back anything with thorns on it just to avoid (a) the bleating and (b) the pointless walk across the field when I know the sheep will free itself as I get too close. We've had a flock briefly wheel left into our unfenced front garden on one occasion (a bit worrying with their appetite for plants), and my wife and I once chased a sheep up and down the hill for 10 minutes trying, unsuccessfully, to get it back into its field after it forced its way through a hedge - they add interest to living here! Have a good Christmas!

Thank you! It is always heartening to find that someone has enjoyed a video. We had heavy frosts for a few nights after I made this - I posted a video "Frosty roses" - but I am pleased to say that Sweet Honey has bounced back and is still looking good.

Thanks for sharing . I wish my Sweet honey was as healthy as yours . I got it cheap from JParker and planted too close to my wall and didn’t flourish. I’ve moved it now and fingers cross it’ll be as big as yours next year . Can’t wait for spring to come . I hate not being to garden in winter.

I got mine from JParker last year too, so I don't think that's a problem. Mine are in a good situation, getting sun from 11 in the morning until sunset in the growing season, so that's probably the great advantage they had. I'm looking forward to a new group of different bare roots arriving this month (from JP again) - the anticipation is keeping my heart beating in this cold weather. Sweet Honey seems to be largely unaffected after being frozen, and I persuaded one of my roses to bloom on Easter Sunday in the greenhouse last year, so the no-rose gap may not be very long. The anticipation is the best part!

I'd not heard of Sweet Honey until this year when Paul and Andrew on the Mad about Gardening channel bought theirs. Since then it crops up on several channels that I enjoy watching. I'm so impressed with the growth on yours and I must get one next year. Are you enjoying this cold snap? I don't mind it now that I've retired but I feel sorry for my neighbours when they're defrosting their cars whilst I'm inside making a coffee.

Yes, we retirees can be a little smug when the weather turns, although today we had to defrost the car and sloping drive for an early trip out. One bonus about the winter is that we do get more birds coming in for food in this weather - and often see unusual ones in the winter that send me rushing to the bird books. We often have pheasants walking around our decking just outside our sliding doors if they're hungry - lovely to see close up. I really can't see any good reason for not buying Sweet Honey - go for it!
