Some days you eat the bear and some other days the bear takes a good chunk out of you. Those watre sources are not gone. They went underground. small shovel and water filtration kit and you;ll find some. Lots and lots of mining history in this area. Been in this area several times and its just a matter of knwoing what to look for and when. You did great. Excellent. Ruby Mtn Hotsots Elko NV
@@LostAgainwithJim The remoteness of the district and the harsh winter conditions resulted in slow development of the mines. It wasn't until 1918 that the Elkoro Mining Company consolidated the best claims in the canyon, built a mill, brought in electricity, and finally got the Jarbidge mining industry started in earnest. Ultimately Jarbidge became a mining camp of a couple hundred people that produced about 10 million in gold through the early 1930s. Today Jarbidge has a small population and a handful of old buildings. Get really good at land navigation......REALLY good. 1:24,000 USGS maps and not that silly phone. The ridgeline peaks your after will always be there...the rest? Several wildland fires have taken out almost all of it. Some buildings remain but not many. First two weeks into fall are about the best. I wouldn't venture into this area after the snow flies. You might not make it back out.
That looks amazing! Those views and I loved the lizard. I would argue however, the mountain did not win. You made the correct call both times. You just didn’t win the way you had planned. 🥾🎒❤
@@backpackingadventures4813 thanks!! Trip could have gone better haha. It’s always a bummer when you have to change routes on the fly. But it was the right decision (both times!)
What a beautiful area! Definitely need to add it to my list of places to see, that loop is very ambitious and I hope you get another chance at it. This summer has been hot and smokey for sure out here in the west. I love seeing the willingness to adjust expectations and make the right call to stay safe and able to hike again. Loving the videos Jim, I'm trying to learn how to take better video, not easy for a still photographer...
The loop was very ambitious haha. I’ll give it another go sometime. There’s so much more to see out there! Jarbidge Wilderness area is 113,000 acres. I’ve read there’s 150 miles of trail. I want to explore more beyond the area we saw. Videography is a different beast than still, but a lot of the same principles apply. Light and composition are key to both. I’m still learning both! I find as my video gets better, so do my stills.
Again a high beautiful wilderness.no crowds.on your own .a true wilderness experience.

Good to know for next time! I’m so intrigued by that whole area. So much to explore. I’ll be back.

I love that attitude. Thank you!!!
I live in the southern Illinois . really need to train for this mountain trek.lotsof walking with loaded pack..
Sometimes the mountain wins indeed, and your perspective helped me accept that. Thank you for sharing this beautiful story. You have a gift, Jim.
Wow. Thank you. I’m glad I was able to help you!
Way to make the right call...both times. Beautiful camera work, and beautiful area.
Did you catch the shot of the Blueberry Vanilla haha?
@@LostAgainwithJim Sure did! 😍
A fair contrast in landscapes from your coastal walk to this destination!
Indeed. Haha. Both are beautiful in their own ways!

It’s wild to see patches of snow and the color of the vegetation more vibrant than they were for our trip together. Next time…
I wasn’t expecting it to be so different only three weeks later. But here we are haha.
Great trip! Very beautiful landscapes. Crazy elevation gains compared to around here. Well done video! 👍

Oh man! Thanks for sharing this. I love the look of this area enough that I started looking up the info. It’s definitely on my radar now.
I need to get back out that way. There is so much to explore. I want to explore other trailheads, and routes. The area is huge! So much to explore.
I was there in July 1993, too much snow I had to move on to Pettit lake in Stanley idaho. The mountains won.
Too much snow will get you every time.
Just found your channel through Darwin's; enjoying it!
Welcome!
Great video. Nice that you're getting that itch to get out.
@@rodoutdoors the itch never went away haha. Circumstances were just in the way.
I read not to many bears in this wilderness Yes.
None that I’m aware of in Jarbidge.
